You can take all of the pics of your iPhone that you want. You will need another camera to do it though, as the iPhone doesn't take pictures of itself. Not sure how any of this pertains to an external HD...

You can not take pictures with a portable hdd unless you have taken pics of your iPhone 5s with a camera and stored them on the hard drive; or taken pics of your iPhone with your iPhone using some sort of reflective surface and stored them on the hard drive. Where would you like to take your pics of your iPhone?

Yes simply hook harddrive up to computer. Hook iphone up to computer. Open files and folders then drag your photos from iphone dcim to harddrive. Then delete images from iphone to free phone storage. Did my moms yesterday
