Can i run it with no solution just vacuum null

Yes, it has a separate container for the vacuum. It has a vacuum canister and a mop canister.

Yes you have to change between the mop attachment and the vac only attachment. The mop attachment will vac and mop at the same time and works great leaves no mess behind.
