• Hello, this unit does have the coaxial connection for connecting the antenna.

• Yes, and they work fine. They have a plastic loop for the AM radio. I am not sure what other type of antenna you would put on a shelf system. This is what I have seen on systems like this for years. I can pull in radio stations over 75 miles away, which my BOSE cannot with a special antenna attached to it.
