Hi, Thanks for the question. Yes, the Sonance MAG6R speakers can work outside as you describe however, they are not designed to be used in areas that would expose them to excessive heat, cold, water, moisture, etc. Installing the speakers in a place that is open to outside elements could shorten the speaker's expected usable life. We do have a speaker that is designed specifically for harsh environments; it's our Visual Performance Extreme line of speakers, which can be viewed here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=Sonance+extreme+&_dyncharset=UTF-8&_dynSessConf=&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=&sp=&qp=&list=n&af=true&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys I do realize these speakers are more expensive than the Sonance MAG6R however, we have engineered them to live in/withstand the outside elements. I hope you found this information helpful. If you require additional questions, please give us a call at 949-492-7777 and ask for Tech support. We will be happy to help you out. - Sonance Customer Support Team
