“I have a high vaulted ceiling so I would place the 2 rear speakers in the wall about 7 feet high behind the seating area, about 5 feet from the back of my head while watching TV. Question, are the speakers too deep to fit in a standard 2x4 construction?”

Yes the speakers are about 4.75" to effectively place them in the ceiling you would need to install a surface ring or speaker extender.

They can be installed into a wall as long as you have enough clearance behind the drywall. I would recommend you verify the depth of your wall cavity before installation.
