Yes, if you use a Sound Bar, it will take over the sound from your TV, and you can add 2 Play:1 or 2 Play:3 to the sound bar for surround sound. I am not aware of a way to just use the Play:1 with the television without the soundbar, but I have not tried.

No... there is no input in this device you will need the playBar which has optical input on it or the play 5 which has an anlog input on the back
