I have experienced similar playback issues and usually the solution is to carefully clean the DVD by running warm water over the recorded side to remove finger prints or oil. I also use a video disk cleaner to clean the player carefully, which is really just a disk with brushes to remove any dust on the laser lens. The recommendation is after 10 to 20 hours of use. Hope that helps as the only other option is to burn another disk either from original source or disk copy.
