“I’m trying to use a simple HDMI splitter with this player, but as soon as I add the second device the output fails appear on either device? (tested the splitter. issue happens if I try to split the signal at the player or on the AV receiver output)”

Splitting any signal weakens both outputs. If you add a signal booster you might get it to work or blow out the splitter. Look up how much signal strength the monitors your splitting too need. It gets even trickier if they have different signal strength requirements. If your splitter isn't powered then the signal demand might damage your player.
