“How do I get surround sound through tv input? I have 5 1 through hdmi in game, can/sat and media box, but tv seems to be outputting in stereo. I have the hdmi and optical connected to tv and when I switch to tv, the receiver says "linear pcm"”

Just noticed this was asked almost 3 months ago, so, it's probably already solved. However, sounds as though your TV digital output settings need to be set to something other than PCM or OFF, try something else like Dolby Digital, etc.

The AV receiver automatically puts the speaker pattern to stereo because it detects the recommended audio quality.
