I can't guarantee this is the correct answer, but I have connected two rear Bose speakers and two front speakers along with one center channel speaker; depending on what tuner/amplifier you're using, especially if it is a new multi channel hardware, it may depend on how the original soundtrack was recorded for what you are streaming, I don't always get the surround sound and I have to experiment with the panel or remote buttons which gives me two or three combinations. I do get the surround sound very often on Prime, but it depends on which channel you are on. For instance, it works well on BritBox and Acorn, but not surround on most PBS Masterpiece selections. I hope you may have far better results.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm confused.. HDMI ARC is meant for sound bars and other powered speakers.... why could I not connect a pair of powered speakers to ARC ?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Mayo, You cannot connect a speaker to the HDMI ARC port of the AV receiver. When matching speakers and Audio/Video (A/V) receivers, the ohm rating of the speaker should be equal to or greater than the ohm rating of the receiver to avoid a risk of hardware damage. Any speakers that feature bare wire connection will work to this receiver, as long as their impedances are from 6 to 16 ohms. https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dh590/articles/00191214 Regards, David
