“I want to set up two sets of speakers, one indoors and one outdoors. Can the receiver switch back and forth between indoor and outdoor speakers as well as play both at the same time?”

We have not tried this type of set-up. Check the manual or contact the manufacturer or Retailer would be recommended.

Hi DMBDMB, Thanks for your interest in the STRDH590. You can connect five speakers (two front speakers, a center speaker, and two surround speakers) and a subwoofer to this receiver. However, there is no option to switch between two sets of speakers. I would recommend you to take a look at our Sony STRDN1080 for multizone features. Hope this helps! -Sam

Yes, they are split into zones. Zone 1 will be your main system and zone 2 can be outside or a different room. They both play independently or together. You can't go wrong with this receiver.
