Hi exorthodoc, thank you for your question. To connect a turntable that only has a PHONO output jack, you need to connect a phono equalizer (not supplied) between the turntable and this receiver. ~Earl

Just remember, vinyl is recorded with low bass so you will benefit by getting a sub woofer to go along with this. I have a Crosley suitcase turntable that sounded horrible with my old stereo but with the one you can (EQ) the bass and set the sub at a higher percent and it will really bring that bass up!!! I would recommend a subwoofer like the sc5 sony.
