• No, it should work just fine as a stand-alone music player/amp. Just connect what you need; HDMI or Analog inputs. It won't freak out or stop working if there's no TV connected. They're all HDMI outs, so if it's not there, it simply won't pass sound via those inputs/outputs. You can connect it simply as a stereo system; 2.1, 5.1 or even 5.2 if you have two subs.
