“what type of sub woofer is recommend? My current sub-woofer is a passive or non-powered. The Sony str-dh590 requires a rca cable hook up. I wood like a 8" if possible”

Hi Mark, Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, Only an active subwoofer can be connected to the SUBWOOFER OUT of this receiver, and you can only connect the subwoofer via RCA cable connection. Hope this helps! -Sam
