Depends how the receiver is connected to the tv. Are you using "ARC" from the tv? if so then you should check the tv for audio output settings. My Sony tv has an option for normalizing audio settings. If you're noting using an arc then the sound settings need to be adjusted on the device you get tv from.

That is the signal from your television is weaker than that from your DVD player. This receiver appears to automatically adjust both the internal television volume and its output to your speaker set up. If I am right about that then the when you’re running a single HDMI with audio return from the television it’s delivering a weaker signal in television mode. I believe the receiver gets its its audio input from different origins in different modes but I’m not sure. So what do you do? Well first I’d trouble shoot it by swapping some cables and connecting them to other jacks. Run the CATV into the DVD or another and see if the problem still exists and/or transfers to another device. You could also try disconnecting the television from the system, turning it on the old fashioned way and turning up the volume. Then reconnect your system. It’s could be a simple cable problem. I’ve learned the hard way that it can make a difference so I’ve tried to use the best hdmi cables I can afford without breaking the bank. Last suggestion, you might try connecting the optical audio output to the input of your receiver. It really shouldn’t make a difference but it’s worth a shot. If this doesn’t work I guess it’s time to get in touch with the Geeks.
