“why does this receiver have two output jacks for the subwoofer”

• Not sure. The set-up in the manual shows just using the top RCA jack to connect the subwoofer. Maybe it's needed to be compatible with some other subwoofers or to wire to two left and right speakers that have a separate subwoofer connection.
