absolutely not!!! It will work great with those speakers. This has 145 watts per channel and the speakers are capable of handling 100 watts. I have a pair of Paradygm bookshelf speakers for the front and some 26 year old sony speakers in the back and thinking of getting these for the back to replace them. I also have the sony sc 5 center speaker and the sony cs5 sub woofer to go along with the receiver. Chances of you listening to anything over 100 decibels for very long is doubtful unless you want hearing loss.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it's not too powerful. Don't listen to the guy who says it's not compatible with your Sony speakers. On Sony's website it specifically says that this is a flexible receiver, than can either do 5.1 channel surround, or 2.1 channel "virtual surround". 2.1 channel = 2 speakers. I hope you didn't listen to Mr. Know It All who tried to tell you otherwise.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wrote yesterday about this but thought I would add something today. After seeing the reviews on these speakers a bought a pair yesterday!!! I have this receiver, the center speaker, the sub woofer and now these! All the Sony SS-CS models. I am running a pair of Paridygm Atmos bookshelfs up front and the SS-CS5 in the back of the surround sound system. I am going to switch that around and run these in the front because of the 3 way design. You want a more powerful receiver than the speaker wattage per channel so this will be the way to go. These are replacing 26 year old Sony surround tower speakers which still work but after cutting them in half and making bookshelf speakers out of them they dont sound as good and were only 25 watts! Go for ! you will not be disappointed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi michael, This is not a bookshelf speaker. The STRDH590 is an A/V Home Theater Receiver that lets you connect 5.2 channel speakers. More technical information on the link below. https://www.sony.com/electronics/av-receivers/str-dh590 Happy to help, David
