Hi snake, Thank you for the inquiry! 4K and 8K are the picture quality that can AV receiver output to the television. Sony does not have an 8K AV receiver yet but this model works well with any TV that supports 4K. Regards, David
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. An AVR can act as a switcher. Run a single HDMI cable from AVR to TV and the plug all peripherals (eg Apple TV, Blu-ray, Xbox, cable box, etc.) into AVR. Cleaner, more convenient, easier to switch between devices via AVR remote. A 4K AVR can accept from a peripheral and pass to the TV up to a 4K signal. Think a 4K Blu-ray or Apple TV 4K or a more recent edition of a video game console (Xbox, etc). 8k is the highest resolution available in TVs. Very few have it, they cost more and there is literally no 8k content. If one wanted to use an AVR as a switcher to TV and had 8k peripherals (none exist except Xbox and PS5) one would need an AVR with 8k capability. Personally I think 8k is nonsense and will never amount to much. However if one is a serious gamer and wants to protect oneself for the future it should be considered. If one simply watches movies and TV I think it’s total overkill and a waste of $$$.
