Hi mc1975, It will still depend on the source you are playing. Also, the max sound level your system will be able to achieve will depend mainly on the efficiency and power handling capacity of your speakers. We recommend connecting wired speakers with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms to 16 ohms. Regards, David
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depending on your speakers and the ohms of said speakers, at 145 watts per channel this system can be really loud in a typical home sized room. If Your trying to fill a larger sized room, You might want something with more power. The subwoofer is key and supplies it's own power so make sure it is up to the task. Being a musician, I play music through My system all the time and it sounds fantastic with My speakers. Just take the time to learn which surround sound settings work best for You and Your speakers. Hope this helps mc1975 and good luck finding Your sound!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Sony STR-DH590 is a traditional A/V receiver, consisting of an AM/FM tuner, a preamp (to receive and process signals from external sources), and amplifiers to power external loudspeakers. As such, it has no internal speakers, and will produce no audible output of its own. The maximum sound level your system will be able to achieve will depend mainly on the efficiency and power handling capacity of your loudspeakers, and the size and acoustic properties of your room. If your speakers are fairly efficient (rated at 90 to 93 dB) and will adequately handle the power output of the receiver (at least 150 watts RMS), your system should produce realistically immersive levels for both home theater and critical music listening in most rooms up to about 600 square feet. Bear in mind though, that front-row rock concert levels are not in the program, so don't overtax the system trying to achieve them! Back off on the audio level if you notice any distortion creeping into your signal. Although this unit is an A/V receiver, it can also handle signals from 2-channel audio devices (CD players, portable devices, etc.), just like classic stereo receivers did. One exceptionn though, is that this unit (like most others made in recent history) does not have a built-in phono preamp; so if you want to use an old school turntable for spinning vinyl, you'll need to get an external phono preamp for it, or bite the bullet and pick up a new turntable with a line-level output. Hope this proves helpful in answering your questions.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is very powerful, so depending on what speakers you use, it can be very loud. It has a built in tuner and Bluetooth. So yes you can play music.
