I was not able to with an IPhone SE 2020, I could hear the ring but needed to grab my phone to answer and talk. Would not keep connected to talk,

Since these earbuds are connected to your phone via bluetooth, you'd need your phone nearby. However, you can answer a phone call and hang up by pressing buttons on the earbuds. And, using voice commands, you can have Siri or Google initiate a phone call for you.

Yes. The button on the right bud does this. I've answered and ended calls with it. You can also use it to launch your assistant (Google, Siri) and make a call that way.

You can perform these operations from buttons on each earpiece. These are connected via Bluetooth to your phone that MUST be in range, just as any Bluetooth device. Your phone does not need to be within "reach" but it does need to be within range.
