“Can it be used just for cancel the airplane's noise without the need to listen to music? I stopped at Bestbuy store and the worker there told me I have to have music turned to cut down the noise, is it true? Thank you.”

• The noise cancelling, all by itself/without music, is only fair to good (but not great) for reducing typical airplane noises. Although, it's certainly much better when also listening to music, TV, movies, etc..

• No, it's not true. I can tell that it is cancelling noise without music. It can be enabled right on the left earpiece.
