Hi SoundDog, That's a great question! It is safe to leave it plugged in because charging stops when the built-in lithium ion battery is full. A topping charge is only applied when the battery voltage drops to a certain level. The good news is that the speaker is equipped with the Battery Care feature. Additional information: “Normal charge” and “Battery Care” modes are available as options for charging the built-in battery of the speaker. Battery Care mode limits the maximum charge capacity to approximately 90% and makes the battery life last longer. The playback time available in Battery Care mode is shorter than the time available when the built-in battery is charged by the normal charging method. At the time of purchase, the speaker is not in Battery Care mode. Regards, Jess
