When using the speaker for the first time, be sure to charge the built-in battery for more than 1 hour before turning on the speaker. Yes. Initial setup will have you plug it in and charge it for 3 hours. Can unplug it after that or leave it plugged in. Power cord is removeable, but you will need to plug it back in to charge if battery gets low.
