As for the distance, it won't stay connected to your phone for a half-mile. Bluetooth only reaches about 98 feet, so the music will cut out long before you get that far. However, the battery will definitely last. It gives you up to 25 hours of music on one charge, so it will stay powered up for your entire walk.
