“I see there's mention of a 512gb ROM version, will we have the chance to get that one as well? Or will be be stuck with a 4th of a TB? If it does become available, but only later... are there reparations to switch and pay the difference?”

Inside the US, only the 256gb model of Xperia 1 will be available. You can of course add a micro sd card to expand your storage (I use one in my Xperia to store music and movies).
