Yes, it will work on the Verizon network. And if you purchase from a Best Buy brick & mortar, they will put your sim card in it before purchase to ensure all is working well. If it is a gift, simply state that, and they can still test it out but obviously the box would be open upon gift giving. They're expensive, but Sony's are the only phones I have used since 2003.
