• Yes it must have a neutral wire. No hub is needed just the Tapo app or you can use HomeKit or whatever home management system that uses Matter.

• yes, when I installed it, it did connect to a neutral wire. no hub is required

• Yes currently TP-Link does not have a wall switch that does not require a neutral wire to be present and connected. We may in the future but right now it is required of all switches we sell. No our wall switches all connect directly to the wireless, and can be setup in the Tapo app. With this switch being Matter a matter hub can also be used to configure and control the product.
