I got a Twinkly tree this year, if I wanted more lights could I add Twinkly string lights to it and still have the same affect or would I need a tree that has more pre-lit lights on it for that? null

No you cannot add on to this set.

Yes as long as they are they are the same generation.

Twinkly lights can be virtually joined via the app, in order to have multiple devices working together. This allows you to get extended lighting effects on the same object or objects in some distance between them.
Certainly you can create a group of LEDS between those in your tree and another Twinkly string with the same LED profile.
