Hi Jeffery, Thank you for reaching out to us! No, it's not a fire hazard as long as you take normal precautions by not leaving it running while gone, or blocking the vent while using the heater. It does not need to be unplugged when you leave the house. The heater cannot be disconnected separately, but you can use the heat and flames independently of one another.
