Idk how big the shelves r but u can use the fireplace without cutting the heat on

Hi Raymond, thank you for your question. The dimensions for both of the top shelves are 6 1/2" H x 25 7/8" L x 14 1/8" W. Also the fireplace insert will have two switches. One for the light, and one for the heat. So you will have the option to use both at once or one at a time. I hope that this information helps you with your decision. Have a great day!
