The Xbox One will support up to 16TB of external storage so yes, would be a good choice.

Please try again later.It will work with it and meets XBOX requirements. - NTFS Format - Minimum of 256 GB - USB 3.0 If he plugs it into his XBOX it should give a notification that it detected the new HD and ask him to run the installation. There's a couple videos and guides about it on Youtube or you can just Google it since this is a common thing most people do since Xbox games are so space consuming.
