I own this hard drive, and if it is encrypted, it is not noticeable. All of my Windows programs work fine with it. All hard drive data must be converted from its' storage format to the normal computer data format to allow it to be used but this is not actually encrypted data. I have been able to test this drive using Windows hard drive commands and so it is unlikely that any encrypting of data is being done. Normally, encrypting requires software, on your computer, to allow you to access the encrypted data, and I have found that I do not need any special software to use this drive.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. It doesn’t even have a feature to lock the drive like many other WD drives.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I wanted to know if all the data written to the drive would be encrypted and my answer was more directed as how to encrypt the data. this was an intentional miss directed reply to keep the answer hidden. So I will and everyone should know your data will be automatically encrypted written to the drive with no option to disable that feature. If the board becomes inoperable then your data will be inaccessible which leaves you at an enormous loss. The only way to DIY option is to find an exact match board serial number to hook up and re access your data. I wouldn't buy this type of drive option for all the tea in China. Your welcome
