• Hi! Yes, this is correct. The charcoal filter is to scrub the air from the Microwave Hood that will be recirculated. Since you are venting this unit to the outside, the charcoal filter isn't needed. Hope this helps!

• absolutely the most stupid idea. otherwise you get grease hanging on the metal piece and it just drips back down.
