An ice maker is optional and costs between $49 and $85 depending on where you buy it. There is an odd-sized wire shelf in the lower left portion of the freezer for the bin that holds the ice. The ice maker comes with complete instructions on how to install it. It can be installed with common hand tools. We chose not to buy it because we rarely need ice. This was our first frost-free refrigerator and we were looking for a narrow "no frills" refrigerator for our small, galley-styled kitchen.
