The hoses move air through the condenser located in the unit. In order to cool the air inside the home, the heat has to be removed. Removing hot air is the function of the two hoses. One is intake, the other is exhaust. According to the specs, an external water drain is not necessary unless you are in a very humid environment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it draws in air from window. Provided are 2 5 foot retractable hoses and no they are not to be used for water. You might have water leak as with any other portable ac unit but I have not had that problem so far.

They compress down (accordion style) to maybe a foot and a half, and seem like extended they would reach around 4 feet or so. They are pretty rigid to hold the position you need. The exhaust tube should be vented outside - the air coming out is very warm. Depending on the use scenario, the other hose is an intake tube and can be used to bring in fresh/outside air, or the unit can just pull in the air around itself. Only the exhaust has to be used for it to work well. I use it for my garage, and have found it works better on hot days with only the exhaust.
