will this work on a Asus M5A78L-M/usb3 board null

That ASUS MB has the required PCIe 16 slot the card should work with it. Be aware that the 590 is a dual card and takes up a lot of space. My MB is a older ASUS Sabertooth P67 and has plenty of room by the PCIe slot. Another consideration is the external power required and a minimum 500 watt PS. My PS is a corsair 850 with all the PCIe power taps that makes this upgrade easy. The card comes with 2 power cables. (Very short ones). I used the ones provided by Corsair.
