I had to take to the Geek Squad with malfunction. I should have spent more money for a MAC.

HP has impressed me once again. With its sleek design, nice battery life, and quiet running, it is great on the go. It truly has a beautiful display. It has proved to be the perfect everyday internet surfing, Facebook gaming, picture managing, and music managing laptop at a great price.

Worst Open Box Laptop ever

I do not remember making a purchase as bad as that. I know I bought it as an open box and certified by GEEK, but the appearance of the laptop was the worst I've ever had in my life. It seems that the Laptop has been used for 1 to 2 years and has even been certified by GEEK, my God, I can not imagine a refurbished laptop. Unfortunately I could not remove the laptop and asked a friend to do it, because if I had withdrawn, I would cancel the order on time. Very disappointed. I do not recommend.

Snatched this up during the BF sales event. You can't beat the $379 price. I'll be adding a SSD to this which will make the speed faster. Typical laptop drives are 5400rpms which is slow and reason why laptops become slower. SSD is the way to go for faster read times and boot up on a laptop

Decided to replace my wife's aging Lenovo laptop and decided to go with HP, same brand as my last 2 desktops that have served me well. Love the 17.3" screen size. Very easy to set up. Seems like the battery drains a little quick, but this will be used mainly at home so plugging it in is no problem. Saw it on BF and it was too good of a deal to pass up!

This is a good, inexpensive, basic, no frills laptop. I needed a laptop in a hurry and didn't have a lot of money to spend so I did a lot of research so I could get the best for the money. The screen size and resolution is great; memory (8g) is decent and the processor is fast enough and the case feels fairly rugged and secure. A couple drawbacks I knew of ahead of time was it doesn't have a backlit keyboard and I have to put a small book underneath the hinge so the keyboard will give me an angle I can type comfortably. I have a concern for the CD carriage being a bit flimsy, though. Overall, an extremely serviceable and satisfactory system.

I have exclusively bought HP products and mainly from Best Buy. I would not hesitate to recommend this one also. The size of the screen and the ease of setup are items that everyone would appreciate. I would also recommend Geek Squad technical coverage which covers all of my electronics.

I bought this computer for my boyfriend for Christmas. The other laptop he had was old and could not keep up with his favorite game War Commander. The screen size is perfect, the speed of the computer definitely keeps up with what he wants to do.

Bought this for our church. After having our old laptop fail 2 Sundays in a row we needed something else. Old laptop was a Lenovo and had a host of issues. I wanted an HP because of how well they work. This one was no disappointment

always enjoyed HP and this 17 inch laptop bought on sale was a good deal for its size and all its features. Seems very fast; wifi seems to have great range and was simple to connect to home network. It was easy to set up and get everything moved from 8.1 windows to its windows 10. one negative which is a concern is the sound. Both speakers are on the underside of the laptop so the sound is muffled even if the machine is placed on a hard surface and or elevated slightly by a chill pad. If it were placed on a soft surface or one's lap I am not sure one could even clearly hear anything. If the laptop is mostly stationary I suppose one could remedy the problem with purchasing an external speaker or two. HP dropped the ball this and makes me wonder how it passed muster when it was designed & tested! Have worked a lot on the sound mixer in settings and got it to passable but is still somewhat annoying. so apart from activities involving sound, the laptop will do everything most people want or need to do with a laptop.

I purchased this laptop as a replacement for a seven year old HP Pavilion laptop. The new laptop was a great deal at $499, and is significantly faster than my older laptop. I have had good luck with all of the HP laptops that I had purchased in the past, and all of them served me well for many years. Hopefully, the new laptop will continue this trend.

Great computer for the money. Haven't used all of the features yet, but I'm working on it. It was a little slow out of the gate, but some tweaks from the BB Geek Squad fixed it up and it is running like a speeding bullet. Since I am not too tech savvy, the reviews helped a lot. I was trying to decided between this HP and a Lenovo. This one won because it had a key pad on the side and a longer battery life. It rocks!

General : For the price you get a lot in this laptop.
REMINDER : Buy a 16GB flash drive so you can make a recovery disk set. YOU NEED TO DO THIS
Pros:
i5 processor is a decent performer
8GB Ram is more then enough for most people. Can support up to 16GB RAM
17 inch screen
Actual buttons for left and right mouse click. This allows you to disbale tapping on the track pad
Cons
plastic case feels cheap
short battery life, two hours or so)
not a touch screen
not high 1080 resolution screen
(annoying) older generation wireless card, does not recognize the higher speed wireless (haven't checked for driver updates that might fix this)
(major announce) The performance of the disk I/O made computer slow. I ended up swapping out the Hard Drive with 250GB Samsung EVO Solid State I had lying around. (MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE)
Annoying: came with a lot of junk that needed to be removed. You do not need all those HP utilities. (Note, don't remove the recovery support stuff until after you make your restore USB disk)
Disassembly: In order to upgrade the memory or hard drive, you need to remove the whole bottom shell. Remove all the screws including the four hidden under the rubber feet. You need a plastic shimmy to assist with prying off the shell
Refer to HP's Service documentation on their support page for this laptop on detailed disassembly instruction

The boot up is a little slow on this, not sure why, but once it is booted, it runs fine.
Set up is easy. Had to uninstall the pre-loaded Microsoft Office trial in order to load my full version, but that's not unexpected. The digital assistant is interesting and I look forward to playing with that more.
The textured finish looks great to start, but then it shows marks of anything you might have on your hands.

Great Laptop. Sound and graphics are great. I got rid of McAfee and my speed is always incredible. Best Buy even gave me a $55 credit because the price went down prior to me picking it up. I have another HP laptop and a desktop which also have performed flawlessly, so much so that I have never needed support.

Love the new computer, however, getting all the applications that I have been using for years to work on the new computer is a serious challenge for a 75 year old. The Geek Squad started the process via Total Tech Support, however, that process left much to be desired. Still fumbling along one week later.
