Very Good Lightweight Laptop

Basically, this laptop can do it all. I was impressed right away with the packaging and care of packing materials. Setup was easy and I was online within minutes. As with any Windows based PC, there were many required updates. This I expected. It took about 30-40 minutes in all to get all the updates done. I was glad not to see bloatware or numerous ads to buy things. That was a huge plus. The screen is crisp and clear and the colors are bold and bright. I was very impressed with the display. The AC adapter is lightweight and not cumbersome. The keyboard is more than adequate and has good feel. Keystrokes are smooth and responsive. As for the speed of the computer, I was very impressed. Programs opened up very snappy and ran smoothly. I was able to open multiple programs at once and this Acer never hesitated. This was my first run with Windows 11 and it ran smoothly on this computer. Easy to navigate and find your way around. I really liked the included padded sleeve to protect the computer. That was a nice add on. I’ve had several days of heavy use with this laptop and have been impressed. Startup and shutdown are quick and efficient. I did wind up installer another browser and it ran excellent and no issues. The laptop seems very well built and seems very sturdy. The hinge is smooth to operate and the display closes smoothly. Web browsing, word processing, video watching, email, and light photo editing have all been flawless on this computer. The only negative I can find with this computer is the lack of a backlit keyboard. Sometimes it is not necessary but working at night or in dim light conditions, I do miss having a backlit keyboard. Overall I easily give this laptop a 9.5/10. I would highly recommend it and it is a great buy. Happy Customer!!!!

Summary
The laptop itself the screen is a large size giving plenty of working real estate and is clear. The laptop is a little bulky, just because of its size, but still doesn’t feel all that heavy. The included power supply is also small and compact, but not USB C. Keyboard seems to work well and has the extended number pad on the side with a big roomy trackpad. no backlighting, if that is important to you, but works well enough. No fingerprint scanner either, if that is important to you. Speakers are downward facing and do not output a lot of sound.
In the two weeks since I have had it, it have never felt held back while using it. I have never felt it was sluggish or slowing me down. It seems it will easily do everything I need it to do. It has a screen, big enough to work on without really needing an external monitor, yet still has all day battery life allowing you to leave the charger at home. Despite its large size, it still seems light enough to carry all day.
It really checks a lot of boxes.
Usage
This laptop is the first I have had with a number pad on the side of the keyboard. I was always worried that if I purchased a laptop with a number pad on the side like this has, it would be hard for me to adjust to not having my fingers centered under the screen. This actually was not the case at all. In fact, I barely even notice that my hands are not in the center. However, with that said, I would have happily given up the number pad to have upward facing speakers on either side of the keyboard.
Inputs
The keys and trackpad seem fine. It is a nice full size keyboard. No backlighting, but while I do actually like having a backlit keyboard, it has never been on my list of must have requirements. The trackpad is quite large. Not Macbook size, but probably the largest trackpad I have ever had on a laptop that was not on a Macbook.
Ports
While it does have USB C charging capability, it doesn’t actually come with a USB C charger. I understand having non USB C chargers on power hungry gaming laptops due to the limitations of USB C power delivery, but the charger that comes with this laptop is only 45W, so why not just skip the barrel connector charger completely and ship it with a USB C charger? It seems odd to include a barrel connector charger on a laptop device that has USB C charging capability and can charge just fine with a USB C charger, but in this case, I am glad it does have the barrel connector charger, because it only has one USB C port. This seems to be another odd choice to me. It has two USB A ports, but only one USB C port, and if you have the laptop plugged in and charging with USB C, you can’t plug in any other USB C devices. This can be solved to some extent by using a USB hub with power pass through, but only to some extent. Most USB C hubs don’t actually have USB C ports on them. They might have a USB A port or two, an HDMI port, maybe a network port or some SD Card slots, but typically not a USB C port. So, if you have USB C devices, like a USB C to HDMI adapter, or a USB C flash drive, or USB C headphones, you can use them with this laptop, but only if your laptop isn’t plugged in with a USB C charger. So being able to charge with USB C charging is a positive, but having USB C charging with only one single USB C port is a little disappointing. I would have much preferred to not have the barrel connector charger and had a second USB C port, even if it was data only.
Display
The display is generous in size and completely functional. It is a touch screen, but again this is something that is not in my list of requirements for a laptop, especially a laptop that is not a 2 in 1. I doubt the touch screen is something I will ever actually use. Would have been glad to give up a touchscreen for maybe a backlit keyboard.
Speakers
The speakers are downward facing, and quite frankly, they are not very loud. I actually only use a laptop’s speakers when I am mobile when working at home or in the office, it is usually going to be plugged into a monitor with speakers or a USB speakerphone anyway, so for those times when you are not tethered to a desk, they get the job done. When sitting on a flat surface so the sound gets reflected back they sound better, but if using the laptop on your lap, as I like to do, then the sound just projects away. The laptop also does have a good old fashioned headphone jack that you can use as well. I have actually finally made the switch, for the most part, to USB C earbuds though, because I do have some devices that can’t use standard headphones now. Well, since this only has one USB C port, if I am charging my laptop with it, I can't use my USB C earbuds. So I either need to carry the barrel connector power supply so I can use my USB C earbuds, or I need to carry some standard earbuds so I can use my USB C charger.
Storage
This sports 512GB of solid state storage. This is a generous amount of storage for what my needs are. However, I use micro SD cards on most of my other devices when I need more storage or storage I want to quickly move between devices. As this has no built in microsd slot, that is not really an option here. There are very small compact micro USB A converters though which almost disappear into a USB A port. I use these on some of my other devices with this issue, that I can use here as well, especially since it has two USB A ports, but I would still prefer to have a Micro sd slot built in. If this only had 64 or 128GB of built in storage, it might bother me more, but as this has 512GB, I can be more forgiving.
Graphics performance
I am not someone who plays all the latest and greatest games, but I do play games. Half Life, Portal, Bioshock. I wasn’t expecting much from this, but it plays them all perfectly. I installed Bioshock Remastered from my Steam Library and it handled it flawlessly. I also use Fusion 360. I use it on another laptop I have, which I thought was better than this one. It works on it, but always reminds me as I am using it that my graphics card may be limiting my performance. I installed Fusion 360 on this laptop and it seems to work fine. I was surprised.
Carrying Case
Was surprised to see this came with a convenient carrying sleeve. It is nice to have it included so I don’t have to try to figure out what size to order. The case is perfectly serviceable and protects the laptop if you have it in a larger bag, or lets you keep it protected if you carry it on its own. It is actually a bit bigger than I would have probably bought on my own with about an inch of empty space between the laptop and the zipper.
Battery Life
The claims for battery life for this are vast, especially considering how large of a display it has. I didn’t do any specific tests to run it down or anything like that, but I left the power supply at home one day and used it for an entire day unplugged and still had power to spare. So this means I can probably leave the charger at home. Anything beyond that for me is just icing on the cake.
Narcolepsy
Another interesting thing I noticed is, when I was using the laptop, on my lap, it would go to sleep seemingly at random. If I had the laptop in my lap, and I shifted my position, or went to get up, the screen would sometimes go blank and the laptop would go to sleep. I could then usually wake it up no problem. I might have to type in my password, and then I could keep working on it, until I moved again. It seemed this happened very frequently, when it was sitting in my lap. So I tried repeating the behavior, picking it up and putting it down on a table, or even a couch cushion, but it only happened when it was on my lap, but not all the time. Sometimes I couldn’t make it happen in my lap either. It seemed, to me at the time, to be random, and I was getting pretty frustrated. As I said before though, I did figure out what was causing it. I carry a wallet with a magnetic money clip in my right front pocket. When the laptop is sitting on my lap, my right front pocket, and my wallet, are right around the bottom front right corner of the trackpad. If my wallet gets anywhere near the front right hand corner of the trackpad, the laptop goes to sleep. I assume there must be a hall effect sensor there that detects a magnet in the top of the screen when it is closed. So, if I want to work with this laptop actually sitting on my lap, I have to take my wallet out of my pocket. Not something I have ever encountered before with any other laptop.
Finally, just as I was going to post this review, after having used this for nearly two weeks, I came to the laptop in the morning and it was off/asleep, and would not turn on. I tried and tried and I couldn’t get it to turn on. I thought, maybe the battery drained? I couldn’t remember if it had been plugged in or not, so I plugged it in with its original charger for a couple of hours and then triedd to turn it on again and I couldn’t seem to get it to wake up or turn on. Finally, all of a sudden, it just did. It started up perfectly fine and once it was powered up, I checked the battery level and it was 100%, so I am not sure what happened there, but I thought it was bricked for a minute.
Problems
After I had been using the laptop daily for about a week, I went to open it one day, and I didn’t get a blue screen, but I did get a screen saying my laptop was “attempting automatic repairs” and then another screen saying the repairs for my laptop failed. I turned it off and back on again and it seemed fine after that. Not sure what that was about, but seemed like another Windows thing.
I am also not a fan of the constant pop up ads for offers from Acer.
Final Conclusion
While there are other tradeoffs, the only big misses for me were 1) Not shipping it with a USB C charger (easily remedied if you already have one), and 2) Not having a second USB C port. Other than that, this seems like a great little laptop and would meet the needs of most users. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I have been really happy with it so far. It is super lightweight and easy to carry, which makes it perfect for work or travel. The screen is sharp and the touch functionality is smooth, which I was not expecting at this price point.
It is fast enough for everything I need, whether I am working, browsing the web, or streaming a show. The battery life has been solid, lasting through my entire workday without needing a charge. It is not built for gaming or heavy editing, but for everyday use, it is been exactly what I needed.
For the price, I really could not ask for more, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, no-fuss laptop.

This Acer Aspire is an improvement over the previous Acer laptops I've reviewed.
The numeric keypad has somewhat smaller keys than the rest of the keyboard. (see photo) I get that keyboard space is at a premimum, but it still makes it a bit clumsy to use.
The function keys across the top (normal location) being smaller is not uncommon, so I don't really mind that, but I disagree with the practice of making the alternate function of the keys more prominent than their "F" function. (photo) This is mostly because the location of those "extra functions" (mute, touchpad on/off, etc.) are not standardized. True, you can hold down the "fn" button to access the original function key, but again, that's non-standard. I'm sure there is a way to reverse this, but I haven't bothered to find it yet.
There are a couple of mystery keys (photo).
The first looks likea sort of exit-type symbol, which is pretty much what it is: it locks the session. To reduce any confusion, it behaves as if you used Win-L.
The second looks like it should mean "crop," and when I pressed it, it prompted me to select an area of the screen for a clip of a screen shot. It's kind of handy, and at times when I need a lot of screen shots, this would be a boon, rather than my practice of "[PrtSc]-launch Paint-paste, crop, etc." It's also a single use key, and logically located next to the "prt sc" key. I would think combining them would have been a nice way to gain another key.
Performance is truly impressive, and coupled with the SSD drive, you won't spend a lot of time waiting around. Booting and starting large programs (MS Excel, for example) are relatively painless compared to years ago when I dreaded doing so.
I like having a backlit keyboard, but sadly, this model doesn't have one.
One feature that I didn't even realize was there at first, is a touchscreen. I discovered it quite by accident, and while I've had a laptop with one before, I found that I don't use it very much. Still, I know many, many people love that feature, and given a choice, I'd take it.
Three USB ports are included: one USB-C (clearly emerging as a new standard) and two USB-A (high-speed 3.0).
Sound is not particularly impressive, but I've never been one to need built-in laptop speakers for anything but system beeps and such. If I want to edit or listen to music, or watch a movie, I'll plug in headphones. Considering how stingy manufacturers are getting with ports, it looks like I'll be buying some Bluetooth headphones soon.
Video quality is very nice. The 1080 resolution doesn't disappoint, and makes for a very satisfying experience when watching a feature-length movie.

Capable and Affordable Windows 11 Laptop

This Acer Aspire 3 is an excellent choice for anyone that needs an affordable and capable Windows 11 Laptop. It has enough system memory and processing power to support most productivity needs. If you are a power user or a serious gamer, then this laptop is of course not the right choice. But in the middle range price tier, where it comfortably sits, it more than meets expectations.
My significant other was eager to try this laptop out as she has a hybrid work schedule which consists of working from home and office and frequent travel. One feature that she especially liked is that there is a dedicated HDMI out, as she prefers the native HDMI aspect ratio for her primary monitor as opposed to the video output from a USB-C Hub..
As just mentioned, we are using this device with a portable USB-C Hub. The function of the USB-C port is flawless, which allows us to connect and disconnect our laptops on the fly without having to reconnect accessories. The USB-C port accepts [power and since we are using a Hub with power delivery, using the included power adapter is not necessary as the laptop is fully powered by the Hub. The laptop has enough ports to be used without a Hub with the exception of a SD card slot. Most Hubs have a SD card port, so this will not be a problem unless you are not planning on using a Hub, which I strongly recommend for all laptops with USB-C capability.
We are using it as part of a dual monitor setup, but on its own the 15 inch 1080P internal display is suitable for watching videos or for use as a second or third display, which is how we are using it.
The internal speakers sound typical for a laptop, so I strongly recommend headphones or an external speaker. The keyboard has a nice feel to it with a medium amount of travel. The keyboard is not backlit, but that is not to be expected at this price point. We will be using an external keyboard at home and when working away from home, but the laptop keyboard and touchpad are completely serviceable without an external mouse or keyboard. I like that it has a 10 key number pad which many laptops omit to save space.
Battery life is excellent. Expect 10 to 12 hours of typical use per charge. It took about 2 hours to fully charge from zero. A proprietary charger is included but as I indicated earlier, the USB-C port can be used to charge the laptop, so I will likely never use the included charger..
At this price range you can’t go wrong with Acer Aspire 3. Acer makes fabulous products, and this laptop lives up to that expectation. It is attractive, lightweight, and an absolute pleasure to use. A nice added feature is that Acer has included a matching branded laptop sleeve. This is a very nice touch that I wish would become more standard..

I recently purchased a notebook from Best Buy in Orlando in February, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. The sleek design caught my eye immediately, but it's the performance that truly shines.
The processing speed is remarkable, allowing me to multitask effortlessly without any lag. The display quality is stunning, providing crisp and vibrant visuals whether I'm working on documents or watching movies. Additionally, the battery life surpasses my expectations, providing hours of uninterrupted use on a single charge.
The keyboard is comfortable to type on for extended periods, and the touchpad is responsive and accurate. I also appreciate the ample storage space, which easily accommodates all my files and media.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase from Best Buy in Orlando. It's a reliable and powerful notebook that exceeds expectations in every aspect. Highly recommended for anyone in the market for a new laptop.

Aspire 3 Has Won Me Over!

In this digital world who doesn't need/want a great PC at their fingertips. I was pretty happy to be able to get this laptop after my old one gave up on me. Not only is the color beautiful but it also comes with a nice looking sleeve that you can keep it in; which I really like!
I use my acer laptop for pretty much everything from shopping for clothes, food, and devices to paying bills, looking for a new places to rent. The acer aspire's battery life is up to 11 hours which I like because the one I had was like 4 hours and it was constant charging. Now, with the aspire 3 I don't have to worry about constantly charging it. Moreover, I can be super confident when using it that I can complete every task I need to without any hassles of it dying quickly on me.
The touch screen feature works great, I love it! The speakers don't have the best quality sound however, I don't care much for that whenever I watch something on the aspire I just either use headphones or my bluetooth speakers.
I really like that given the amount of time I tend to use this laptop it doesn't overheat like my old one use to do. This is a plus for anyone like me who has to use it for many tasks at a given time throughout the week.
Overall, acer aspire 3 has won me over with it's functionality.

As a student, having a reliable laptop is a must. This is my first Acer laptop, but I decided to try it out because it seemed like it would fit my needs. The set-up was quick and simple - I was done syncing it to my existing account and phone within minutes (You do have to download an app to link up to your phone). I also enjoy the touch-screen feature! The laptop is quite big, but it's not as heavy as I thought it would be considering it's size. I do like the big screen, though, because it allows me to have a clear view when working on any projects and for entertainment when I am watching videos or movies. I was very excited when I saw that the laptop comes with a focus feature which you can connect to your Microsoft To-Do list and Spotify account. This feature is a timer that you set for a “focus session” so that you can get your tasks done and avoid distractions for a period of time. I find this method of working/studying to be super effective and it feels so rewarding when I am able to finish things that I need to do. Moreover, the laptop has a long battery-life and I also love how lengthy the charger is! It comes with more than enough memory space to store various files, presentations, and videos. I do wish the volume of the laptop was a little louder, but it quickly connects to my speaker via Bluetooth so that I can play music/movies on it and enjoy a large screen and sufficient volume. Overall, I am happy with how easy it is to use and with all the great features it comes with.

This is a powerful workhorse of a machine for a budget price. Pluses: touch display, decent performance 8GB RAM, generous 512GB SSD, thin and light, nice keyboard feel, number keypad, USB-C charging (with the right adapter). Some sacrifices have been made to keep the price low: no backlighting on keyboard, mediocre display especially in bright daylight/sunshine.
I got this as a backup to my desktop Windows PC and travel laptop; it runs all the software I need at an affordable price. Will cast to a Chromecast on a TV for entertainment, highly recommended to compensate for not so great screen.

Overall, the Acer Aspire 3 is a decent laptop for low end tasks (web browsing, light work in Office apps, etc.). It is an excellent entry level laptop for those needing access to the internet, or maybe even schoolwork.
The Acer Aspire 3 is a budget laptop that offers decent performance, extensive battery life, and current Wi-Fi connectivity. It has a 15.6-inch touchscreen display with a Full HD resolution and an IPS panel. It runs on Windows 11 Home and comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 7520U processor, 8GB of memory, and a 512GB SSD.
However, the laptop also has some drawbacks, such as a limited performance headroom, a dated and somewhat flimsy design, a lackluster display with low color gamut coverage, and no memory card reader or fingerprint reader. The keyboard is also mediocre, with uneven key travel and no backlight.
In closing, the Acer Aspire 3 is a simple and effective budget laptop that can handle everyday tasks smoothly, but it may not be suitable for more demanding users or gamers.

This is a powerful and light PC that works great for writing and streaming and would be a fantastic buy for a student. I've got a gaming PC but I needed something small and light to do other tasks on when I'm not at home, and this is perfect. It is NOT a gaming pc. The integrated video card just isn't that good, but it is more than enough for pretty much everything that doesn't require a massive gpu. Even knowing it was a 15.6 screen, the keyboard is still well spaced and feels nice and the touch display (my first one) has been awesome. I'm so glad i got this and not a tablet.

Full disclosure, I purchased this laptop on sale for $400 before tax.
That being said, this is a great laptop that offers a lot at a decent price point.
It's light, it's quick and while it can't play games at the highest settings, that isn't what this machine is for, but for work, school, or light gaming this is well worth it. The Battery lasts a good while, even during more resource intensive sessions.
The biggest con is the lack of an SD card slot, but that's easily rectified. It also, oddly, has a Kensington Security port, which unless you plan on locking this computer down is wholly unnecessary.
Still, for the specs at the current (as of 11/04/23) price I think this laptop is wonderful, even when compared to similar machines.
Lightweight, well built, a clicky keyboard, bright screen and decent specs make this a laptop I'm happy to recommend.

Purchased for my family to support my 87yr old mother that needed access to internet and email to monitor and access medical records, social security, medicare and various other financial activities. My brother's wife had just been laid off so the laptop offered excellent tech for zoom and teams to do interviews, and for my mom to access accounts and the activities already mentioned. The Acer Aspire 3 laptop has a wonderful large 15.6 inch screen, with touch screen if you choose to use it. It has a 512gb superfast NVMe SSD Drive and 8gig of memory, and can use the touch screen option if you choose. I'm a 40yr currently retired IT guy and this is a super great machine running with a Ryzen 5 processor provides great value at its pricepoint. Love it!!!

When unpacking the Acer Aspire 3 the first thing I noticed is the beautiful blue color of this laptop. I am used to having silver or black laptops - so this was a nice "feature". If you are looking for a decent laptop at an affordable price that can do things for school or work - this is a good option. The Acer Aspire 3 is a 15.6" touch screen laptop that comes with Windows 11. It is a lightweight computer weighing in at 3.92 pounds. This is very benficial when carrying it for school or traveling for work. I don't use my laptop for anything that I could test the processor or graphics for. I use it for email, data entry, posting on social media for work and creating some graphics on Canva. Nothing too fancy. This laptop is able to handle all of that. Although this laptop is touchscreen - it does not fold back to be able to use like a tablet. It comes with 2 USB ports, 1 Type C USB port, and 1 HDMI port. One thing that is a little different about this laptop to be aware of: the keypad is a little smaller and could take some getting used to. All in all, this was easy to set-up and has been easy to use. I would recoemmend for an affordable laptop option.
