I have used Photoshop Elements since I switched from film to digital about 15 years ago. We purchased a MacBook Pro so this was a must.

I had hoped Adobe products had become less bloated since I last purchased a CS Suite, but that's apparently not the case. I've uninstalled both products (along with the additional software that was installed), and have reverted to using my old copy of Photoshop and Microsoft MovieMaker.

Useless software inactive redemption code

Unfortunately the software had a inactive redemption code, so it was useless and best buy in Dartmouth Massachusetts where I purchased the software from was not helpful, they refused to give me a refund. they allowed me to exchange the software for another copy, same problem inactive redemption code. The manager told me in so many words that it wasn't best buys problem, that I'm going to have to call Adobe and take it up with them which I did. And the problem was not with me or my computer. once I was able to get in touch with a adobe tech problem solved. They gave me a serial number to use to activate and register the software. I WILL NEVER BUY SOFTWARE OR ANY BIG TICKET ITEMS FROM BEST BUY AGAIN, And I will not recommend anyone buy software from best buy. The fact that best buy wouldn't take responsibility, refused to help me out with software you sold that was useless. best buy sent me off to deal with it on my own.

Adobe’s BEST “Elements” w/ Sensei AI in Full-Force

First, this review will be shorter…much shorter, in fact…than my usual reviews. If you read my review for the 2018 version, you will have most of the information you need, as the great majority of it still applies. If you read my review for the 2020 version, you will understand what improvements were made, and what additional features were added. This review will, for the greatest part, focus on the latest additions. For those with the 2020 version, you might…or might not…feel the upgrade is worth it. for anyone running the 2019, or older, versions, this is mostly for you.
PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 2021
First, and foremost, Adobe has brought the Sensei AI technology to Photoshop Elements. While (probably) not as powerful as it is in Photoshop CC, the features found in the professional version are trickling into the consumer versions at a faster rate. One use would be in creating “moving photos” (ie. moving GIF). Even better, in doing so, you can pick between standard 2D, or a 3D effect, giving the final ‘image’ some depth. Another use is ‘Face Tilt’. Have you ever taken photos where someone is looking the wrong direction, and you had wished that had been looking in the same/correct direction as others in the photo? Well, now, you can fix that. Next up is something Adobe calls “Perfect Landscapes. With this, you can not only remove unwanted objects (“Hey, where did that stop sign come from?”), but you can also replace hazy, low-light, etc backgrounds (such as the sky) with “better” ones. There’s also something called “Duotones”. Technically, this is something you could have always done, except that you would have had to do it manually, by adjusting the ‘contrast’ and ‘color’. With Duotones, it’s a lot easier, and faster…and, even better, you can pick the ‘highlight’ & ‘shadow’ tones. Lastly, you now have the ability to move, scale, and duplicate objects within a photo. If people were too far apart, or someone was too close/far, you can now “bring them closer”.
PREMIERE ELEMENTS 2021
Moving onto Premiere Elements, there are some very interesting improvements. With photos, it’s always been possible (albeit, not necessarily “easy”) to keep primary people/objects sharp, while ‘blurring’ the background. But, with video, this has traditionally only been possible with the highest level of video editors…until now. In Premiere Elements 2021, you now have this ability…and, for the most part, it’s almost as easy as it is when editing photos. Another addition…music. Specifically, Adobe has included 21 “editable” royalty-free music tracks. With some video servers (YouTube, I’m calling you out on this one), they have been becoming increasingly-difficult to deal with when adding music. As someone who has regularly edited videos for my church, we are, by law, allowed to use music…including copyrighted music…in our videos. But, getting YouTube to understand this has occasionally proven somewhat “difficult”. With Adobe including “editable” royalty-free music, this will help make my job easier (well, except when a video calls for something ‘specific’, for which I’ll still have to deal with YouTube’s ‘problems). Adobe has also added two new types of “guided Effects”…namely, ‘double exposure’ (ie. placing a video within a video), and ‘animated matte overlays’ (think the sliding overlaid images in the opening of many TV shows, such as “Charlie’s Angels”, and every James Bond film). Have you ever imported old, grainy video, and then attempted to remove the grain…failing miserably? Well, using Adobe’s “Reduce Noise” effect, you can (more) easily remove that grain. I tested this on one video clip, and, while not perfect (again, Premiere Elements isn’t ‘professional-grade’), it made a noticeable enough improvement for it to be used in an upcoming church video. If Pastor Kenny were still here, he’d have loved it. while there are other improvements, the last one I’ll mention helps to make a great start to your videos. Like most, I’m sure you’ve had trouble deciding what clips would be best to start your video projects. Well, wonder no more, as Adobe’s “Start Trim” is here to help you. Using Sensei AI, and based on the type of video you select, it searches your included clips, finds the best scenes, and even determines which is the ‘best’ to start the video.
FINAL VERDICT
As I said at the beginning, if you’re using the 2020 version(s) of Adobe’s “Elements” software, upgrading to the 2021 version(s) might, or might not, be worth it to you. When the 2019 versions came out, I felt there weren’t enough improvements, so I skipped it. the 2020 versions offered enough improvements (combined with the 2019 improvements) to make the upgrade worth it. for myself, I feel that the 2021 versions offer enough improvements to make the one-year jump worth it. For those still running the 2019 (or older) versions, and considering whether the upgrade is worth it, “consider” no more – they ARE worth the upgrade. Sensei AI played a part in the 2020 versions, and is playing an even greater part in the 2021 versions. That, alone, makes the 2021 versions worth it. For those still using the “basic” editing applications included by Microsoft and/or Apple, STOP…I beg you…and do yourself a HUGE favor – get Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements 2021. I promise…no, I guarantee…you will NOT be disappointed.
