I was hesitant at first to try out the echo dot but after playing around for a couple of days, it comes in handy. You can ask the echo dot to do simple things such as setting alarm, checking the weather, play pandora stations and enable other useful skills.

I purchased one on sale to check it out and the Echo Dot is great. I use it in my home office, the voice recognition is good and the sound quality is good for my office and also have it connected to a small Bluetooth speaker. Pretty easy to set up and link with accounts (Amazon Prime Music, Sirius XM) Nice Android app to work with. I use it for music, weather, road conditions, fun questions. I actually purchased an additional (2) Echo Dots for the rest of the house. After using it for a couple of weeks I purchased (2) of the Echo Plus models for our moms so they don't have to call me for the weather and road conditions before they travel to our house. The Alexa calling feature is nice and the call quality is decent. I also purchased (6) of the Dots for a sales promotion our office is having during the Black Friday sales, great deal!

Cannot live without my Alexa so bought several dots, one in the bathroom, one in the laundry room and the other one in the garage. They work great for music, alarm, time, deals of the day and weather. I want to get another one for the bedroom.

For the price you really can't beat this speaker. There are others that sound better but for its size it really is pretty good. if you are tied into Amazon at all, this is the one for you. Unless your primary music subscription is google play music, then you should probably opt for Google Home unless you are ok subscribing to amazon music unlimited.

So when I first read about the echo I was super excited and signed up right away. Now that Amazon has had time to perfect and come out with the second-generation., I am even more in love. It's a great product, I love all the applications that it syncs with. I bought five One for all the major areas in our home. I use it as the Smart hub to connect all my smart devices around the house including my Thermostat my lights and several monitors. It's great to be able to walk into any room and ask for a song to play or to turn on the lights and have it happen with just my voice.

I bought my wife a Dot for Christmas and set it up to be ready for her use Christmas morning. In that process I was so impressed that I bought another Dot and an Echo (Den, Kitchen & Bedroom). It is extremely functional for getting the weather and playing radio stations from almost anywhere in the world, playing my music library, alarm clock, timer, spell checking, controlling lights and almost endless other things using "Strings". Even thought the Dots have pretty good speakers, we use them with Bluetooth speakers. Most important my wife loves and uses them.

I purchased the Echo Dot to see what all the hype is about with these smart assistants. The Dot was an inexpensive way for me to try this out. I have a lot of Apple products and often use Siri and expected a similar experience. I was wrong. Alexa does so much more than Siri. She entertains my family with games like Jeopardy and Fact or Ficition. Alexa answers my questions aloud so I don’t have to look at a screen for anything. My daughter loves to interact with Alexa. Then I purchased some smart plugs and a smart light. Alexa was able to integrate all of these smart products into one app AND I can control everything with my voice. The sound is good enough to hear an alarm from downstairs if I am in my room. Great product.

This is my third Echo Dot in the house. We had two dots setup in the living room and one of the kids bedroom. Alexa is great at understanding the voice commands -- much much better than Siri. My sons loved it and used it to check reference, set up alarms, play music. It even reads Kindle books, which is a great extra help I needed to get the kids through their reading requirements. This one is requested by my son who did not get his own dot in his bedroom. Now this is making him very happy. With the price dropped this year, I also bought one more as a Xmas gift for my in-laws. Step up is also very easy. Just follow the instructions. All you need is the password to your wifi. No voice training needed.

This little speaker can do so much and for the price, you can't beat it. I would recommend buying a BT speaker that has a 35mm input as well. I've added it to my surround sound system and it works great.

Once you plug this thing in it will set alarms remind you of things tell you the time all only when prompted. Then it does things like control my lighting and my nest thermostat and a bunch of other stuff I didn't think possible including linking up through my Spotify account to play whatever I want to hear whenever I want to hear it The newest thing it does is it places phone calls for me so I could be laying in bed and call my mom without ever letting my head off the pillow – the other models are bigger and have some more features the tall model I believe the only advantage to that is it has a better sound quality to it other than that for 50 bucks this is an absolute steal I could now not live without one

I bought this Echo Dot for use in the bathroom in my small studio to supplement the original Echo I have in my living space. The sound quality doesn’t deliver for music beyond what you would expect in something so small - it seems bass production is completely eliminated with a low pass filter, but overall I have not experienced any distortion or clipping with even the most delicate classical recordings, so maybe this was a good choice on Amazon’s part. For my bathroom, with a noisy vent fan running, this works perfectly to keep the music going as I go about my morning routine. Playing audio content (music, books, radio) across multiple rooms in sync is pretty amazing. I think the regular price point as of 2017 is a touch high for what this product offers as a device that integrates seemlessly with other, higher quality Echo devices that start at only double the price of this model, but as a stand-alone unit, with the option to connect to a better speaker via Bluetooth or line-out, this is amazing.

I got one as a gift, and then after installing and using it I bought 2 more for the house. It's a small speaker so don't expect great audio quality if your a audiophile, but it has a headphone jack and Bluetooth so you can connect it to a better speaker. I love the ability to just speak and get answers or turn on music or pull up Netflix, etc... I am now looking into getting more smart features in my home to connect to this like the nest or ecobee, lights, the possibilities are endless. Also looking into getting another one for the garage so as I'm working on the car and have grease/oil on my hands I don't have to touch anything to change the music or I can ask to convert metric to fractions.

This is the second Echo dot I have purchased. It is amazing how I have come to depend on these little guys. In the kitchen if I need a recipe, my Echo gives me the info I need. Hands full and need to turn off the lights, my Echo does it for me. Just thought of something I needed to get or do, no looking for a pen & paper, the Echo does it for me. The ways in which this makes life easier on a daily basis goes on and on. Is it an incredible sounding speaker for listening to music? No, but for its size and the price I wasn’t expecting it to be great but it’s decent, and I have them linked via Bluetooth to my home audio receiver, so if I want incredible sounding music, I have it.

I have my echo.connected to my SmartThings lighting controller. I love the combination. You have to learn how to say things correctly. But it's so great not to have to find the remote, simply say, "Alexa turn off the light". I like the Echo Dot over the tall Echo (with better speaker). I already had a better Bluetooth speaker and the Dot fits bettter on nightstand. Great for music, math questions, shopping lists, etc. looking forward to more capabilities as it grows.

This product surprised me. I have a lot of smart products in my home, including the Phillips Hue lights and I got tired of having to go into the app on my phone to turn off certain lights, etc. I know, this seems pretty lazy when you already don't have to get up and flip the switch, but it it's going to be a truly automated smart home then I needed a way to better control the home with one function. I wasn't too sold on buying an Echo from the ads on tv or social media, but saw these for $30 and decided to give it a try as my introduction to Alexa. I like it, and was able to stick these around the house to control my smart functions. I'm giving it 4 stars because sometimes it doesn't respond to the command and I have to give it more than once, and also because it's really Alexa that's performing the commands. The actual speaker itself, I give a 4. But you can Bluetooth it to another speaker or use a AUX cable!

This thing is great. Alexa understands pretty much anything you say, the speakers are surprisingly good, the Bluetooth and aux out is a plus, AND $30 is a great price!

I love the idea of only speaking to device and it plays my music to me. Great with setting alarm clock for the morning along with letting my know the weather outside.

I bought the dot to test this out. I have heard good things about it and wanted to test her out. So far it works pretty well. i need to utilize it more. I do not have many items that are "smart" in my apartment but if I did I think this would be way more fun. However, the alarms, reminders, playing music and linking your accounts is pretty cool. Cooking with her is pretty rad as she will help you with measurements and timing. if you are in the market for this type of product i recommend trying this one out first then graduating to the Full size Alexa. This is my second Echo dot. I have one in the family room and one in the bedroom. Both provide music, weather, time, temperature and wake up alarms. Very useful.

I got this as a gift. it sat for a few weeks. I decided to set it up in my bedroom. I got a couple of smart lights and synced them with Alexus. I find its helpful to be able to turn my bathroom light on in the middle of the night and also set alarms on the fly. I used it to make my first phone call and it work great. since I have gotten a second one and plan to set it up in my living room. I like because you only have to say its name , and do not have to say hay or some other phrase before its name like the others. I renamed my bedroom computer and will rename the living room Google.
