WE got tired of our cable company's rate increases so we decided to "cut the cable cord." After speaking to a few people as well as the person who helped us at the Whitehall, PA store, we decided to purchase the Amazon Fire TV. We were not disappointed. The Fire TV is relatively easy to use although there is a bit of a learning curve. By using the Fire TV and joining a streaming service, we were able to cut our TV bill almost in half and still have access to all of the channels we normally watch...including our local ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates. The only minor drawback we've found so far involves returning to a previous channel. Unless I haven't discovered a shortcut yet, I have to go into the guide, scroll and select a previous channel. In the meantime, I'll keep experimenting.

Definite upgrade from the old firestick and a must have for 4k tvs

I love this box!!!! Much smaller then the last and had 4K capability.... can’t go wrong with this one here.

I've read where others say this is actually a downgrade from the 2nd gen firetv, but it works great for me.

Fire TV is easy to set up and use, intuitive and rich in features. The Fire TV Cube is a step up, in both price and functionality. BUT, basic Fire TV has everything you need and - especially on sale - is a real bargain.

Works great with my Sony 4K. On my way to totally cutting cable.

Links with echo dot streams in 4K voice commands. It's so cool.

For context, I've owned the FireTV 1, FireTV Stick and own several FireTV Stick 2's. I had recently sold my FireTV 1 expecting this to be a suitable replacement because of it's small footprint and ability to plug into the back of my 4K tv without the use of a plug. My FireTV 1 was awesome and was perfectly happy with it. I have made a mistake. I have 2 AppleTV 4K's and let's just say, it's a night and day difference over the very good Apple TV 4. This is not the case with the Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD. The menus don't show the extra definition or pixels to differenciate itself vs the non 4K version. Apple made the decision to run in HDR mode in the menus and apps and it pays of in spades. Non 4K streaming apps benefit from this. It's a fantastic 4K experience. Honestly, I don't see a huge difference in speed compared to the FireStick 2. The video quality of 4K on Amazon content had a lot of artifacting compared to my native Amazon app on my LG OLED TV. I would be happy if it provided better video quality / processing on my other non 4K apps and especially menus, but I don't really see a difference. With the AppleTV 4K, EVERYTHING looks better, it's faster and makes my 4K tvs pop. Best example is my inexpensive 40" Samsung 6300 series. I didn't think it wold be worth buying a second Apple TV 4K for it. I plugged in the ATV 4K to it and couldn't believe the difference, even on the menus, icons and how it handles 4K color. I have factory reset this thing 3 times / then trying it again trying to justify keeping it and I just can't do it. This seems like a half-baked product at best. I don't know if Amazon asked it's developers for larger images for menu art like Apple did. If you're not really up on what 4K should look like or HDR, you may think its great. Compare it to an AppleTV 4K or your native 4K smart tv app quality and you'll likely find that you may want to wait for the next one or just pick up and much cheaper FireTV Stick 2 that is a fantastic product.

Rather it's my tv (Sony/Bravia smart tv.) or the device I'm not really sure. I set it up and liked the fact that it's voice activated because I have trouble seeing in the evening when watching tv and thought if I could just tell it what I wanted to watch it would be nice. However I could only get it to work on my Netflix and Amazon movies. It did not want to work for my local tv stations, which I mostly watch. Returned after a week of use.

Easy to navigate and converts over to 4K unlike the fire stick

I have 2 Firesticks. Waiting for my 4K TV to try this feature.

More responsive than the original fire tv stick......very fast and still compatible with Kodi YaY!!!!!
