Didn’t know much about kindles, but wanted something that I could use indoors and outdoors, also something that wouldn’t bother my boyfriend while he slept. The kindle was the answer. The screen is perfect no matter what the lighting is like and it also seems to omit a different type of light that doesn’t bother your partner while they sleep unlike the screen on a smartphone. The battery life is excellent and it’s smalle enough and light enough that it makes a great book replacement.

I had a kindle Paperwhite that I'd bought in summer 2014, and by summer 2015 something had gone funky- it wasn't charging anymore. So I upgraded to one with a higher PPI a couple months ago. The difference is slight; in fact I haven't noticed it at all. If I went back to my old Kindle I'd probably notice that the quality had changed, but really, it's a very minor upgrade. But that doesn't matter- because the Paperwhite is awesome anyway! I am a woman, and I can fit it in the back pocket of most of my jeans (so dudes definitely can), it slips into small purses and it holds a charge for weeks. I have a pretty big collection of physical books, but I really enjoy having a library on a tablet that I can bring with me too. I buy physical books when I want to linger around a book store, or for poetry, or books that I want to high light or share with people, or that I like the covers of. I buy Kindle books that I really want for the story, or that are on sale on the Kindle store, or classics that are cheap (a couple bucks) or free. The Vocabulary Builder is really nice- I just highlight and lookup words that I want to know more about, then it provides a definition for me and saves the word as a flash card so that I can practice later at my convenience. I use my Kindle at night- the back light is perfect for reading right before bed. I wholeheartedly recommend this device if you just want a reading tablet. I might get another tablet for watching TV or playing games, but I just wanted a dedicated reading one, and this is perfect for me.

I read as many reviews as I could find before buying this newest Paperwhite and what struck me the most was the contrast of the bright screen versus the print. However, when I got mine, I had to put the brightness level to 19 (out of 25) to get it to a comfortable setting. Doing that makes my battery run down before I've even read two books, and that is with the airplane setting on, meaning the WIFI is off. Luckily, I bought a charger so I can charge my Paperwhite while on trips ( without my computer, in a regular outlet) or at night when I'm finished reading. Now for the positives. I love the light weight of this Kindle even with the preferred cover that shuts it into sleep mode when closed. I absolutely LOVE the dictionary feature, because it is so easy to use and it saves the words I don't know, for study. After I've learned a word's meaning, I can delete it from the list. I got the Paperwhite with the ads, because it is nice getting suggestions of books I might enjoy that I might not see otherwise. And books are easy to order from the Kindle Store and to download through this devise. I like the cover, because it protects the screen from scratches while stored in my purse and I also purchased a stylus to keep fingerprints off the screen and I like that. Generally, I am happy with this purchase.

I have loved Kindles from the first time I turned one on. I now read about 12 books a year (that's a lot for me). I finally upgraded to the Paperwhite for the backlight feature. I take it with me everywhere in case I have an extended wait time somewhere. But I mostly use it in bed. The size makes it easy to hold. It's a lot better then holding a cumbersome book and doesn't hurt as much when I start to doze off and drop it on my face. I have set the text size big enough to read without my glasses, get in bed, turn on the backlight, and read in the dark. Good for reading in sunlight too. I only read books with my Kindle, so I didn't see the need to buy the Fire. And I only needed the Wi-Fi version (no 3G desired). I also didn't see the need to pay $80 more for the Voyage.

This is the second Kindle I've purchased, and I love my Kindle! What I don't like is that every time a device is "upgraded," the upgrades are annoying. On this Kindle, the "home" page is changed - it lists My Reading List and My Library. So you have to press My Library to choose a new book. Then it's a list of the books. Why couldn't they just leave the home page showing the small pictures of the books you bought? I have no idea what My Reading List is - it lists books I've never heard of, by authors and topics of which I have no interest.
Still, I would recommend a Kindle to anyone who reads books. The screen is easy to read, you can make the fonts bigger or smaller. I don't feel the battery lasts any longer than my old one did, but it's easy to charge. It's thin and lightweight, and I pretty much carry my Kindle wherever I go.
Anyone who buys a Kindle will definitely NOT be disappointed!!!

I own tablets, have a surface pro 4, and have a smart phone. I have the kindle app on all these devices and it works great. This issue with them though is that they aren't always that convenient to carry around. Or, if they are, the battery will tend to die. The paperwhite fixes both of these issues. It's very light and feels great in your hands. The screen is amazing and I never have any kind of issues with being unable to see it due to sunlight, a dark room, etc. But probably most amazing of all is the battery life. It's been 2.5 weeks since I bought my kindle and fully charged it... I just now finally went a little below half battery life. I use mine to read books and graphic novels. Both look fantastic on the device.

I love the paperwhite! It took me a long time to get used to an e-reader, but the paperwhite won me over. The battery lasts forever. It has a light so you can read in bed. Font size is adjustable. It's SO lightweight, and it feels good in your hand. Great on your eyes. Easy to use. You can bring all the books you want with you when you travel. I have an android tablet, and an ipad, and I prefer to read the kindle paperwhite. No contest!

Best e-reader ever! love the back light and how light it is. My boss suggested the paperwhite after she saw how much I love to read and I have to say it's the best gift I could've ever bought myself. If you love to read you won't be disappointed because it reads like an actual book the only difference is it's not bulky and you can actually adjust the backlight as needed. I also love the fact that I can read at night without having to turn on the lamp to see the letters. You can also adjust the font size so you don't have to strain your eyes (try doing that on a regular book). Over all I can't say enough good things about the paperwhite. I totally LOVE mine!!

I purchased this as a gift for my mother. I already owned a Kindle Paperwhite and knew that it would be perfect for her. It is lightweight and easy to hold; lit from behind so no glare (easy on the eyes); and the font size can be easily adjusted. A charge lasts for a week or more. With a Kindle you can carry an entire library of books with you. The Paperwhite easily slips into a purse or large coat pocket, so you are never without a book whether you are traveling or waiting for someone. I was right about my mom; she was thrilled to receive her Kindle, and at 86 she is excited about using new technnology.

I bought this as a gift for a teen. I already have one and love it. Being able to select a new book to read any time of the day is great. I am a library user so wasn't sure I was get much use out of a kindle. I have grown to love it. Many free books are available and you can share your selections with others. Functions allow you to increase font size, read it either portrait or landscape (great for reading in bed), and screen brightness is adaptable. Can play games on it, and you need wifi just to acquire new books. You can take it anywhere to read your books.

The Kindle Paperwhite is great for reading books on the go. The battery lasts me for weeks between charges based on my light reading habits. It is very easy to just close the cover when I get to a pausing point, and knowing it will open immediately to the same page when I resume reading. The back light makes it easy to read anywhere, from full sunlight to dark rooms. I'm resuming my voracious reading habit now that the Paperwhite has made it so easy.

Purchased this is a replacement for a television during a move. So far, I haven't been missing the programs. Kindle makes reading easy, accessible and fun. I take it with me everywhere I go during the day (I live in a busy metro area) and it fits neatly into my backpack. Great for bike commuters or train riders. Accessible, cheap entertainment with a fantastic build quality.
**Side note: I originally bought a basic Kindle, and traded up for this. Very glad I did! It is much better than the original, and the 300 dpi plus back light makes a huge difference.

I recently decided I wanted to pick up reading to exercise my brain instead of staring at my phone or tablet screen all the time. I tried reading with the kindle app on my phone before and I never stuck with it. My phone screen is too small and too bright. I feel like carrying around paper books is too cumbersome so I finally decided to purchase this paperwhite reader when it went on sale. I really really really like it. Am I reading all the time now? No. BUT I am reading way more often that i ever have. Finding an interesting read is still hard for me, but there is a plethora of books through the amazon store, and you can even use it with your local library. This kindle is very lightweight, the battery lasts forever (literally) and is very easy on the eyes. When you sit under florescent lights, it actually looks as if you are reading a paperback book. I love it. I currently have about 5 books downloaded onto it, It keeps track of where i left off and if i come across a word that i dont understand, i can highlight it and look up the definition without having to pick up my phone and get distracted. Brilliant! If you've been wanting an eBook but looking for the right one, get this one. You won't regret it.

I much prefer this over "multi-purpose" tablets. The screen is incredibly easy on the eyes. I can read it in bright light as well as in a dark room. It's easy to hold with one hand, plus the UI is very easy to navigate. I love the ability to highlight, make notes, and look up definitions.
Did I mention that the charge lasts weeks? After reading one book (about 220 pages in print), I still had plenty of charge left.

Being an avid reader with a preference towards hardbacks I was very skeptical of e-readers. Because I also travel extensively carrying hardbacks and having enough lighting to read has been a challange. My husband purchased a Kindle Paperwhite for me for Christmas. Upon opening I wasn't sure I was ready to go digital - HOWEVER I love it, I've already completed 2 books. The paperwhite is backlit and easy to hold. It fits in the palm of my hand so one handed reading is easy. I am now a believer ....

It's my first e-reader ever, so I am a novice. I like my Kindle which now is a large part of my life the same way printed books have always been. It's very compact, weighs very little, has great features (touchscreen, adjustable brightness, easy to navigate and download books). The battery really lasts a long time as advertised. I just wish public libraries had more books in the Kindle format and better interface for e-books.

I was looking for something bigger than my phone but smaller than my iPad. This kindle is perfect. I can read in broad daylight without the glare. It’s portable enough for me too. My only complaint, which is not a deal breaker, the surface on the back is too smooth. My hands keep slipping when I’m trying to read. I bought a pop socket which works really well so problem solved.
