    Disappointing upgrade

I upgraded from a MacBook Pro 13 inch (2013) 2.6GHz Intel Core i5 with 8GB of ram to this MacBook Pro 13inch (2017) 3.5GHz with 8GB of ram and found myself extremely disappointed. Good: The computer is much lighter than the previous model, the screen is beautiful and is far superior to my previous computer. The transfer of my old system to the new was seamless and outside of having to put my passwords in for my email and some other apps it was easy to upgrade. The track bar on the top is a cool addition and there are many ways you can customize it to work with your apps or computer using needs. Bad: While I truly wanted to love this new computer the list of bad things are pretty challenging. The computer uses USB-C and none of my drives or devices use this. The converters to this new technology are not super expensive, but it makes the process of hooking things up very silly. The battery claims to last 15 hours, but I felt like it is much much less than this to the point I felt like my old computer held a charge longer than this one. The charger extension cable does not come with the computer and was another thing I had to buy with the computer itself. While this is the same computer as before the new one with same amount of RAM and a faster chip is extremely slow and you cannot upgrade the RAM for the computer. I am not using GFX programs, but Google Chrome and Mac mail which are lagging and requiring me to restart my computer. I am so upset by all of these factors that I am going to return the computer and get the model prior to this. I am not sure if I got a lemon or what, but the time wasted on buying a new computer only to have to return it is more painful than a simple return or exchange. If I were you I would stay away from this specific make a model.

This review is for the 2017 Space Grey MacBook Pro 13 3.1GHz i5, 8GB 512MB Touch Bar version: Been a PC user for 25+ years. Never really dabbled in the Mac eco system, but decided now was the time. I already have an iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 2, and a iPad Pro 10.5, so it made sense to convert the last piece of the puzzle. Lets just say I am extremely happy with my choice! Was a hesitant at first with having to learn a new operating system coming from Windows 10, but the learning curve really isn't that bad. MacOS has all the same tools and programs as Windows, just different names, and they seem to actually work better. Love that all my Apple products merge with one another and work together as one. This to me a strong selling point. System is fast, smooth, fluid, quiet, barely warm, perfect size/weight, display is crisp and bright, speakers are by far the best on the market. I hear complaints about the keyboard, but to be honest, I really like the feel and low travel of the keyboard. I type a lot faster on this then the Yoga 920 it is replacing. Miss the 4K screen on the Yoga, but this Retina display is just as good and is perfect for a 13" screen, and lets not mention scales perfect unlike in Windows. Keyboard for me is hands down better than the Yoga 920. In all, I am extremely happy with my choice, in fact, I returned my wife's Yoga 730 and got her a MacBook Pro 13 TB as well! She loves hers just as much... Couldn't beat the Best Buy sale this weekend as I was able to save $400 on each MacBook! PRO's: Build quality Performance Speakers Screen/colors MacOS Apple ecosystem Color (Space Grey) Touch Bar (yes it seems gimmicky but after using it, it does work quiet well) CON's: Wish the touch bar version got the extra hour or so of battery life of the NTB version Expensive even on sale (you get what you pay for though) Keyboard longevity? (Get AppleCare)

    MacBook keeps improving

If you're like me and find ease of use with MacBooks and you're curious about upgrading to a model with more gee-whiz features such as the touch bar, more memory, and a display that somehow just keeps getting better, this might just be the MacBook Pro for you. If in doubt about upgrading, please let me assure you this is a MacBook that'll delight you in unexpected ways that'll keep a smile on your face for years to come. !: The sound and display Apple somehow manages to upgrade will blow you away. Upon comparison this notebook is actually smaller than the MacBook Air yet a whole lot more capable. Forget those days when you needed a separate bluetooth speaker when desiring fuller and louder sound. It's a thing of the past. This is a notebook that actually has more volume than you'll ever need and its display is simply eye-boggling thanks to considerable upgrades in screen brightness. 2: The 3.1 I-5 processor is a solid performer that'll rarely have you wanting for more unless you're a serious power user. The available 512 GB of SSD is enough though I wish they had the 1 TB that's currently only available on the 15" MacBook Pro model. 3: At a scant 3 pounds, it's a notebook that's light enough for hauling around yet more than powerful enough even when on long business trips that reminds you just how hard you work for owning a notebook that'll keep you happy for years to come. 4: The Touch Bar is not a gimmick. While there's a bit of a learning curve, I'm surprised over how much I use it the more I bang on the keys. Meanwhile the butterfly keyboard is now in its 2nd generation of development and this one is a breeze to type on (unlike the 12" MacBook that takes some getting use too). I'm a super frugal guy who makes every dime work twice as hard, yet this machine even with its rather intimidating price is well worth the investment. For peace of mind, please don't forget to add Apple Care to your final purchase. Apple has customer service that simply can't be beat hence those little tech annoyances we can't figure out are a thing of the past. All careful shoppers know that real quality always costs more, but over the long haul you'll see your investment well worth the ticklish upfront cost. There's no buyers regret here and I don't if you'll be anything but contented just as I am even after buying a total of six MacBooks during the past decade. This is in its own unique way the MacBook we've always been waiting for.

    Another Fine Apple Product

The 2017 13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is exactly what you would expect from an Apple product: (nearly) perfect. Apple and its products aren't perfect, of course, but they come closer to it than any of the other big competitors in my experience (and opinion). A lot of people complain about the keyboard, and I agree that it's a bit awkward at first and takes some getting used to, but after a few days I didn't really notice it anymore. It does make some impressive slappy sounds as you're typing; reminiscent of the days of big clunky mechanical keyboards. Instead of that hearty "chunk chunk" sound, you get a higher pitched "tat tat" sound, but they're along the same lines. Doesn't make this laptop any less awesome. A small price to pay for something so slim and sleek. There are many hardware configurations for these, so it's hard to talk specifics, but generally speaking, this thing runs well (as most Apple products do). I have a mid-range model as far as hardware goes and 4k video editing in Final Cut Pro X is no problem. It keeps up; nuff said. The Touch Bar is useful, but not entirely necessary. A lot of people feel it's gimmicky, and I see where they're coming from, but under the right circumstances it's actually quite useful. I do occasionally forget it's there, but I bought the model with the Touch Bar more for the additional USB-C ports, Touch ID, and better hardware options than I did for the actual Touch Bar itself. MacOS is awesome, but will take some getting used to if you're coming from Windows; there's a somewhat steep learning curve, but a lot of things are similar. Oh, and don't forget to buy a USB-C dongle. Gotta play Apple's game if you want to use Apple's products. Hopefully in a few years everything will be USB-C and we won't care anymore.

So to begin I was able to purchase a new computer with left over scholarship money so I swear I researched for a good month on what I was going to buy. Ive been a PC guy forever and I have been and iPhone guy since the iPhone 4 so I was use to the apple lifestyle but I was not fully into the Apple Ecosystem. But enough of the back story and to the point of why your reading this. I decided to take the leap and purchase a MAC and man do I love it. The speed is crazy fast never have I had this speed on a PC and from a i5 at that. I have the bad habit of always over specing so I was concerned buying a base model. But that was no problem as I have no issues with speed period. I watched a few Youtube videos on how to learn the Mac OS and I had it figured out in roughly a weekend but nothing to difficult that a youtube video couldn't solve. Now that I'm deep in the ecosystem with the iPhone 8, Series 3 watch and this Mac it is amazing. They all work well together and wearing the watch to unlock the computer is awesome in itself. So if your already and apple person and in need of a new computer DO IT you'll love it. Granted I'm no "power" user but I do a wide range of tasks without issues! Sorry for the long winded review but I just love the switch I made and wonder why I didn't do it sooner!

Won't go into a lengthy detail on features other than the touch bar is a welcome addition but still no touch screen from Apple. Yes, everything works well and the high res. display is very nice. The touch bar displays different options, depending on the programme but there are many options and you can customize it to an extent. IT is fast and the darker gray finish is nice. New is the unique connector that powers the unit and from any port, not just one power port. But, be careful it is a plug in not a magnetic connector so the cord could potentially break if pulled hard. NO more USB jacks so you will need an adapter for any external devices such as USB memory sticks, SD cards, optical drives, etc. That Apple did not provide at least one USB port is surprising. They do make hubs if you want one and Apple makes a cumbersome version but it stick out from the side of the computer and we must ask "why"? Yes, it's a good laptop and if you can get a good deal on one, it's one you'll keep for years, unlike the quickly non future proofed PCs. Pros: Good performance and display quality. touch bar options Cons: only one connector which requires adapters. Still no touch screen. Bottom line, yes, a great computer with many good features but Apple is falling behind in the future wars.

I didn't know what to expect never having had an apple laptop before, but I have been blown away. I have never had a computer that was so solid. It's like a brick, not like dinky plastic and bendy thin aluminum/plastic combinations that I've seen with other brands. It connects so well with other devices and services even outside the apple brand. It blew my mind to have a built-in mail app that didn't suck! (Looking at you windows 10....) The desktop management system is gorgeous and functional and I got the one with the touch-bar. I love it! I kinda miss my function keys (I'm a computer developer) but the functionality I get with the touch bar makes up for it, especially web browsing. Screen is amazing, I still get fingerprints on it... but looks fantastic! The wide trackpad is fantastic! I just love it. Everything is gorgeous and the UNIX based OS is great for development! I want to get apple everything... but I already have google music and apple is lagging behind in whole home speaker/assistant systems (GIVE ME A HOMEPOD MINI!) I can justify the cost by the quality of the computer and the length of time I KNOW it will remain functional for me. It will be worth it getting the bigger memory! I really can't stop, I just love it so much!

My 2012 Macbook Pro crashed, which I loved, so I had to had to buy another one. I've adjusted to not having my old, beloved MBP and the new one is faster, lighter, and very nice, BUT I wish I had gotten the last model with the iconic backlit Apple logo. They have stopped putting it. When I was looking at the new Mac in the store, I had this strange feeling, like...what's wrong here. I even commented to the Best Buy salesperson that it almost seemed like a knock off, to which he asked why would you say that. After a couple of weeks when I ordered the Kuzy rubberized cover, I became aware there was no back light. At first I thought it was the problem with the cover. After Googling I discovered Apple now puts a cheap looking shiny silver apple. It would seem Apple would love the free advertising with their lit Apple. Apparently not. Now, from the outside the new MBP looks more ordinary. I guess that's what Apple is aiming for. This will be a very minor to unimportant point for many new MBP owners, but many of us are very unhappy with the change. The charger is easier to manage. It plugs in rather than having a magnet like my older one. It is light and thin. Still, I want the lighted Apple back.

I have worked electronics/electrical my whole life. Retired IBM Chief engineer AS400 mainframes. I’ve had PC’s since the old 286 series. Even a couple of “trash 80’s” from that “Radio” place. NEVER have I seen such garbage (and I’m pretty tolerant/lenient with computers/electronics. GARBAGE, GARBAGE, GARBAGE!!! Apple should hang their heads in shame with this crap. God awful machine. I could write so much BAD about this instead I’ll just say that I really Like the “clean slim appearance”. NOTICE I DID NOT WRITE this out on the MacBook. I don’t have time to go thru all of the rebooting bugs etc.. to get it back up to a screen image. I have NOTHING on this machine (512gb) EMPTY!!! And don’t bother with going “online” with it. CRAP GARBAGE!!! I missed RETURN of this one by ONE DAY. I did give it the “benefit of the doubt”.. I can fix ANYTHING... well EXCEPT maybe a MacBook Pro! DO NOT BUY !!! Very Unhappy buyer. BB should pull all of these off their shelves.

I’ve recently upgraded from the MacBook Pro with Retina (2013) and so far this laptop has been great. It’s light weight and has an excellent screen. I love that you can use finger ID to log on, it keeps everything more secure without having to type in your password all the time. And the touchbar was a feature I was unsure if the extra money was worth it but I ended up getting that model and I’m so glad I did. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but it has been great... I use it way more than I expected to. I like that it makes suggestions and finishes words with an autocorrect like a cell phone would. The only complaint I have for this is the lack of the USB port they do make an attachment but in order to use it I have to take the bottom of my laptop cover off just to use that which gets kind of annoying. Other than that this is a great laptop and I would recommend it to anyone who loves apple products or are thinking about switching over

I have been spoiled by my 11.6" MacBook Air. It is small and light and does most of what I want it to do. As a photographer, the big problem has been the screen. It is not retina and is too small to do serious work on. The MacBook is too slow for heavy Photoshopping so the MacBook Pro makes the most sense. I would prefer to see 16 gigs ram standard and 256GB SSD minimum. I have the 8 gig 512GB Touchbar model. USB-C (3.1) is great! 4 ports and you can get USB 2.0 to 3.1 adapters cheap or buy 1 USB-C hub! This computer is bigger than the 13" MacBook Air and heavier too. Speed is good and the build is top notch. The touch-bar is far more useful than expected and it is nice to be able to unlock your computer with your fingerprint.

This is my first Apple laptop. I’ve always owned PC’s, but I needed a new laptop and since I already had the iPhone and iPad I decided to try an Apple laptop to have a product that worked in conjunction with my other Apple products. I couldn’t be more happier. This laptop processes quickly. The apps and terminology is a little different than PC’s, but once you understand them there’s a smile on my face every time I turn it on. The built in features and organization of Apple laptops is incredible especially the MacBook Pro. I was reluctant spending the extra money, and I wish at least Microsoft Word and Excel came with it, but I’ve gotten used to using Apples version since I don’t have to share documents with people that have PC’s otherwise getting Microsoft 365 would be worth the extra money. I look forward to many years of use with my MacBook Pro 13”.

High School is one of those places where a good laptop can really do good for a student. The MacBook Pro is perfect for this given it has fast speeds and is compatible with many of my school's required applications. It also exceeds the grounds to use personally whether it's Netflix or having all the music from my iPhone on my computer. cons- the lack of ports and buying a battery pack with the only compatibility to my MacBook Pro being that I can charge the battery pack with the MacBook. Don't forget that you have to get the adapters. There are small ones that you can plug into your computer for easy use. Just a slight inconvenience when you don't have the ports to begin with when it will take a century for companies to change to thunderbolt C ports. other than that, solid choice!

I am a long time windows user who just switched to a Mac because of work. I've had it for a couple of months now, and I'm surprised to say that I'm a convert! My productivity has definitely increased because the OS makes everything so accessible! Pros -- Multiple deskcropts -- Touchpad > mouse. I never thought I would say this, but the touchpad takes you 1 day to get used to, and you're never going to go back to a mouse. -- Terminal. As a developer, this makes my life 100% better -- Size. I have the 13" Macbook Pro and it is very light and discreet, yet the display is big enough to get work done comfortably (the multiple desktops definitely helps) Cons -- Price! Previously, the most expensive laptop I've owned was 700 including tax! This was definitely a splurge for me, but I have no regrets.

Amazing laptop, I have a blast using it. It's fast, efficient, the toucher is super useful for everyday tasks that I need, and the battery life is actually pretty decent depending on what you are doing. Only problem I see is that it is not as fast as it claims to be. Now granted, I transferred everything from my old laptop to this new one via Migration Service and it has opened applications a lot faster, but not as lightning fast as I expected. Not trying to sound spoiled but I expected faster. On another note, this may be just me, but my laptop screens seems to be a little heavy as when I put the screen a decent amount down, it will automatically close on it's own. I have put a hard case on it, but it is very lightweight and should not be the reason it is shutting on it's own that much.

I exchanged this 13” for the 15” inch. My previous MBP was having issues with the video card and I needed a replacement, after much contemplation I went ahead and bought another MBP. This new line up is much slimmer to my previous 2011 MBP and the screen is beautiful. However, as a student I think I would have been fine with the regular Macbook or the Macbook air. Buy the pro if you really are a pro user and do a lot of editing, etc. If you need laptop simply for browsing, taking notes and no real gaming, then get anything else other than the MBP as I think the price is very, very high. Also, the lack of connectivity can be a pain because you have to buy extra connections to be able to attach any other USB connections...so be ready for that.

I like it, I use it mainly for developing apple ( IOS, OX, TV, etc. ) tools, software, and applications ( which you can do only on a mac ). I got the touch bar version and I'm happy I did, 1st because I can develop tools for that as well, and, 2nd because it's very useful! ) CONs: 1. It takes a while to get used to the touch bar ( I still hit the esc or back button on the touch bar by mistake when browsing which is, very, very very, annoying! but I'm getting better at it ) 2. The USB-C phenomena! the fact that even all the other (newly released) apple products do not support it is really ridiculous! so to connect my iphone X I'd need a convertor! Over all, recomended

The MacBook Pro 13” laptop is the best computer I’ve ever owned, hands down. The solid state disk drive is very quiet and runs very cool. It’s low power consumption allows this MacBook to start immediately and it’s Intel i5 processor is very, very fast. The task bar, which replaces the old “function keys” is an amazing tool. It functionality intuitively changes depending on the program in current use which makes it extremely powerful. On the down side, Apple’s switch to USB “C” “Thunderbolt” ports is a bit frustrating and requires an intermediate interface in order to connect older USB peripherals. Otherwise, I think the deign is great and I highly recommend this product.

This is my first Mac after using Windows. I'm kind of meh on it right now. Build quality is good. It has crashed once and hoping that was a one off and software updates have fixed that. ... time will tell. Value is meh. Kinda over priced for what you get. Touch bar is very gimmicky. Very little use for it right now, maybe that will change. I do like having the Touch ID and additional ports though. Carrying and buying dongles for everything is annoying. Little disappointed such an expensive laptop doesn't meet the minimum requirements for my GoPro, but haven't yet tried to use the software, because I need to buy a SD card dongle... Maybe it will cut it.

I love the MAC performance it really is much better built than PC however I do not like the direction Apple has taken. I miss the not having alternative ports and now have to purchase everything separately. WISH MAC would have left the PORTS and DISK DRIVE for DVD and MP3 on the MAC Pro itself. Without them it is very inconvenient to have to A) spend more money, B) keep track of little add on's, C) Keeping everything plugged in and stable to be able to use. Now it hangs by wires off of the MAC. You are paying more money for less product, VERY INEFFICIENT and AWKWARD. I would still recommend MAC overall but am extremely disappointed.
