We, my husband and I, have been hesitant to install a video doorbell camera for some time, though we have been intrigued. There are a few reasons why we didn't think it would work well. What with the configuration of our long, covered brick porch, the current location of our wired doorbell, the metal front door with windows on each side and narrow door and window framing abutting to the brick walls not leaving many options for placement of a new unit. Well, we finally gave in and ordered the Aqara Video Doorbell Camera with a wide 175 degree angle field of vision and the option to install it either wired or battery powered. With the current wired doorbell to one side of the porch illogically mounted on brick at least 3 feet away from the door, we figured we could go with the battery power and the included 21 degree angled mounting plate and mount it on the wood on the side of the door and adjacent to the brick wall. When the unit arrived and we opened the box and saw how large was the video doorbell unit, we almost gave up right there. It just didn't seem like there would be enough room to mount the unit. However, my husband decided to mount the plates and give it a try. It ended up having just enough room to clear the brick wall and not cover too much of the window. The wireless setup with the Aqara application was not difficult and after placing the batteries into the Doorbell Camera Hub and plugging the USB cord to power the Sonnette Video Hub, they were up and running. Immediately, the sensor on the Video Hub started sending my phone multiple messages that someone was lingering at my door. It was me! I had not even had a chance to install the unit on its mounts and I had about 10 messages. Then it continued to do this as I tried to take a picture of the unit in its place and when having my husband come up the walkway to the door to test out the unit. Very annoying. There are a couple of other issues that we have such as in the daylight the long tunnel-like porch of ours causes the brightness to obscure the video image of the person at the door depending on where they are standing. This is not helpful and defeats the purpose of having a video image. Then there is the lack of intuitiveness of and instruction for the Aqara application in my opinion. I didn't even know that the G410 had voice capability until I read about in someone else's review. After searching around, I still am stymied on how to use that feature or what other features I may have missed. I am still seeking better instructions and have not even looked into setting up the units through Samsung SmartThings or Google Home. (It does support Apple Home, but we are not Apple aficionados.) Until I can find more info and resolve some of these issues, the jury is out for deliberation as to whether this unit stays at our home.

Great Video Doorbell that Needs No Subscription!

The Aqara Camera Hub G 410 is a surprisingly polished system that works well without subscription. It works with Google, Apple, Amazon and Matter home automation systems. The video doorbell unit is completely wireless and is battery operated. The bell chime repeater unit is rated at 95 decibels, which is loud enough for a two-story home, and it is powered through a USB-C cable. I can configure how loud the bell is through the app. Installation is easy and is very intuitive. There’s an app to download, which will be useful to configure the system and to perform firmware update. Every time there’s a person approaching the door, the app will automatically send a notification, and the user can monitor the video feedback. There’s also an audio function through which we can communicate with people outside the door. User can even mask his voice with robotic, anonymous or clown voice. The video doorbell unit is rated to withstand weather conditions. However, it is recommended to install it on a porch or in other shaded areas. Video quality is very good both in the daylight and nighttime. The video maintains good quality in low light, with clear images and sufficient resolution to recognize people. The best part of this video doorbell system is that it works well without subscription. When they say no subscription required, they really mean it. Videos are saved to both local and cloud storage. For an increased level of privacy, the user can disable cloud video upload. Facial recognition system is also locally stored. There’s a micro-SD slot available on the bell chime repeater unit and we can also configure the system to connect to Network-Attached-Storage (NAS) for local video storage. This is a huge win for customers, since many video doorbell systems need a subscription to work well. The subscription system does give extra benefits such as premium AI event and AI video summary, as well as up to 90 days of video event history and 10-minute timed snapshot. However, these are just extra features since even without subscription the video doorbell system works great. Lastly, the app works really well. It’s quite easy to navigate the menu and access our videos. Accessing video archive through the cloud and local storage are both easy. The app is surprisingly polished, and it is very useful. Pros: Works great without subscription Great video quality App works well IP rating to withstand weather conditions Cons: None so far.

    Flawless Apple Home Compatibility

I rely heavily on my home ecosystem, primarily using Apple Home, Google, and Amazon. However, none of my previous video doorbells that I used and am still using supported Apple HomeKit. After using this Aqara G410, I can confidently say, this doorbell complements my Apple ecosystem and allows me to control everything from one app, "Apple Home," which is fantastic. The installation is straightforward; it took me a few minutes to get everything up and running. Installation is versatile; the doorbell can be either wired or battery-powered with 6 AA batteries. I decided to power it up with a battery option to avoid drilling holes in my wall. Also, I used rechargeable batteries even though the package comes with 6 batteries. While the aesthetic design isn't that attractive in its class, it does offer great features that make it one of the best options that I could choose over other models. As such, Apple HomeKit-compatible, wired or battery powered, the chime serves as a Matter bridge for adding third-party devices, Thread, Zigbee hub, which is a plus, and powered by a USB-C port with an SD card slot for local storage (up to 512GB). In my case, I have Apple iCloud+, so I have no problem saving my clips on iCloud using Apple Home with a big caveat. streaming through Apple HomeKit reduces the camera resolution to 1080P; it's just an Apple limitation. It would be great if Apple offered full resolution in future updates. That said, the camera still captures clear videos. The doorbell supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), and I noticed it connected to the 5GHz band, which provides faster speeds. The camera’s 2K resolution offers a 4:3 aspect ratio with great viewing in the field of view. What sets this G410 apart from other models is that it uses mmWave technology instead of a passive infrared sensor. Such technology allows the cameras to detect and identify objects accurately, instead of giving false alerts every time the camera is triggered by a sound. relatedly, the Aqara seems to be a super friendly device and provides a wide range of configurations, and one of them caught my attention, which is how to answer a call on the app and talk to who rang the bell, is to mask your actual voice and use anonymous, robotic, or clown voices, etc... Aside from the default features that other smart doorbells have, the default ringtone can be customized by uploading MP3 format file and replace the default which adds a personal touch to it. I'm super happy with this doorbell, and finally, I have a doorbell that integrates smoothly with Apple Home alongside other services such as Google and Amazon. One note, for continuous streaming and longer recording, wiring the doorbell is required as a battery offers very short clips and no pre- and post-trigger feed only at the time of the event, at least based on my experience. One thing that I didn’t like about this doorbell is the placement of the security screw that is located on the side of the doorbell and covered with a rubber seal. It’s a bit inconvenient, and I would prefer if the screw were located on the bottom instead of the side, just in case I want it to be mounted close to the wall, where the screw hole has no clearance to unscrew it.

    A doorbell that Matters

I’ve been using the Aqara Doorbell G410 for only about a week or so and here’s my experience with it so far. First off, the build quality isn’t great. It’s made of plastic, feels really light, and doesn’t have that premium feel but it’s expected for the price point. The screw that keeps it installed is on the right side of the doorbell and if you use the wedge, it makes it a challenge to screw it tight without stripping the screw. It's a bit bulky but now couriers won't have an excuse that they couldn't see my doorbell. You’ll also need the Aqara chime hub for it to work but on the upside, the hub helps with local AI features and enables smart integrations. If you have Matter devices, you can use this as a hub. The speaker is pretty loud and voices are clearly heard. The Chime hub uses a USB-C connection for power and it includes a USB-C to USB-A cable. The hub also has a micro SD card slot that supports up to 512GB. It supports dual band wifi (2.4GHz & 5GHz). The G410 supports HomeKit, Google Home, Matter, and more. I mainly use HomeKit, and it works great — my HomePod mini chimes when someone rings, and it even uses Apple Photos app to recognize faces. Sadly, I couldn’t add the camera to Google Home for some reason. I got the hub added though. Now, I don’t get the video feed to show on my Google smart display so gotta figure that out. For storage, Aqara gives you a couple of nice free options: you can use a microSD card for local recording, and HomeKit Secure Video also works without any subscription. There’s also Aqara’s HomeGuardian service, but that one requires a paid plan and a lot more AI features are included. The doorbell’s 2K resolution video quality is pretty good during the day, but night vision could definitely be better — it’s a bit grainy in low light. My doorbell actually has a ghostly blotch on the center of the image (see pic). That might be a reflection from my white fence but my previous doorbell didn’t have the same image issue. Even tried changing the shutter frequency to 60Hz. One cool feature though is lingerer detection, which alerts you if someone hangs around your door for too long. It’s surprisingly handy for extra security. Battery life isn’t great — it drains quicker than I’d like. It uses 6 AA batteries. Thankfully, you can hardwire it to your home’s power, which I’d recommend if possible. Overall, the Aqara G410 is a solid smart doorbell with strong HomeKit integration, free video storage, and some smart AI features like face and lingerer detection. It’s not perfect — the build feels cheap, and the night video isn’t the best — but if you’re in the Apple ecosystem, it’s definitely worth considering.

    Smart home starter

Aqara makes some of the best smart home devices, they are cutting edge and integrate well with all smart home eco systems. The Doorbell Hub G410 integrate with Google, Apple, Home assistant, SmartThings, Amazon and Aqara has integrated a matter hub with the doorbell. The G410 doorbell works great, the video quality for daytime is good but keep in mind if the sun is directly in front of the doorbell you will need to adjust video settings. You get a ultra wide 175 degree camera for viewing, this does cause a fisheye effect, but the images are clear and your able to capture everything in sight. The included hub also works as a chime in case you don’t hardwire the doorbell or can become a secondary bell that you can place in a different part of the house. When it comes to installing Aqara provides everything you need to install the doorbell wired or wireless, even the batteries are included. Installation is self-explanatory and set up was easy. I would recommend making sure your Wi-Fi router has IPV6 turned on as this is a must for using matter devices, if your cannot connect other matter devices this is your issue is. When it comes to features the G410 is loaded, it has mmWave detection, facial recognition, pet detection, car detection, two way talk (even allows you to discuss your voice when talking to people over the intercom), can be hardwired or battery powered and multiple storage options. You can save footage to a SD card or even a NAS device for 24/7 recording. This is the first doorbell I know of which uses mmWave radar to identify people, this reduces false alerts and saves battery. I have yet to get a false alert from shadows , leaf’s or tree branches. The night camera has great clarity and the mmWave radar works excellently. The reason I say this is a smart home starter device is the included hub which allows you to add other Matter devices or Zigbee devices. Using the matter protocol over thread is huge as not only does it save battery for your devices but it also reduces network congestion. Using the G410 hub allows you to connect devices from other companies and use automations for lights/locks/cameras/motion detectors, and all of this is laid out in a beautiful looking app. Just like all other Aqara devices the doorbell is well made and works with all smart home devices, not having to change all my smart devices to fit the Aqara ecosystem is wonderful. The doorbell button is clicky and the chime goes off instantly unlike other devices that have a bit of lag. The only bad thing I have to say about the device is that I wish it wasn’t as wide, but this is a personal viewpoint so I can’t really knock it. Overall I would highly recommend this doorbell to all and if your just starting your smart home built out this would be the first thing I would recommend you purchase.

Aqara Doorbell Camera Hub G410 is more than just a doorbell. First I downloaded the APP so I could personalize it the way I wanted it. It has a great view that I customized with a large wide view. You can personalize it in several views to fit your desires/needs. The view is very plain and not fuzzy at all. I set ours up with face recognition of our neighbor and family. I get notifications via my iPhone because I am using HomeKit. . The camera can be hardwired in or use 6 AA batteries that are included. I used the batteries. I don’t know how long they will last. The outside camera can be attached with enclosed screws or you can do like I did and apply it using the build in adhesive. I just pulled off the adhesive covering and stuck it where I wanted it. I was afraid it wouldn’t stick long as it had been raining for days. It does come with a tilted frame of sorts to use when you are applying with the screws. I did not use this. After a week it is showing no sign of coming off. . I simply attached the doorbell/speaker using the adhesive on the back. It’s already applied so I simply pulled off the adhesive covering. It includes the screws and a small screwdriver If you desire to screw everything to the walls. . The thing that impressed me most was the clear view and easy application. I have added photos to show you the adhesive on the back of both the doorbell and camera.

Slow and near useless without subscription

I figured this might be a good replacement for my older doorbell. I prefer having one that has the option to be wired as I have the wiring. I also like when security systems let you have local storage of some type. This one lets you do it with a micro-SD card on the hub that you plug inside. But, there are several things that I am not thrilled with on this one. For one, the installation is not very clear, but having had another doorbell, I already had familiarity with installing them. This one wants you to scan a tiny QR code on the device, one of three that are on there, so figure it out, I guess. Then it wants you to use the app for install and it gives options to toggle tamper alarm and linger detection. But, if you toggle them here, it starts blaring an alarm as you haven’t officially mounted the device yet. But, come to find out, you don’t just turn it off in notifications, you also have to go into AI detection as well. Anyways, once it is installed it looks bulky, a bit wider than my old one. But, it makes it very obvious for people to see. Ringing the doorbell works great and when connected to a smart speaker it can alert you there too. But, besides doorbell pressing, it seems hit or miss on other detection. I’ve had it installed for a few days now and out of me going in and out of my house several times in the past couple days, it only shows detection of a face once, 3 days ago, when the delivery person was really close. Any other time, nothing, not even a person notification. I had linger detection enabled, but it seems to think my flag, off to the side, as lingering, all the time. If it wasn’t for the fact you can turn on full time recording and save it to the SD card locally, I wouldn’t have any footage of someone at the door because if it only saves the notification clips to the cloud. Let alone if it was on battery and not sending them. But, accessing that footage on the SD card is slow. Most of the time, as I try to scroll through the footage, it just jumps back to the last time it showed, making it really difficult to scrub the footage. Though it does have a filter option, if it doesn’t detect a face, doorbell ring, linger or tamper, you have to manually find it. Speaking of the cloud, the subscription is pretty much needed if you want it to detect anything and if you want face detection, you need the unlimited plan. So, at that point, you might as well get more cameras of the same brand to make it worthwhile. Otherwise, just for a single doorbell camera that sometimes detects people, I don’t see it worth it. With the app, it is easy enough to get straight to looking at the camera, as it does have a refreshed image on the main dashboard. But, if you want to do anything else, you have to click the small “Doorbell>” link below it. From there you can do more options, but one would think that clicking the image would take you there instead. Like commonly needed is to have 2 way talk, which you can also disguise your voice with 3 alternate modifiers, so they might not think a kid is answering. There are several settings you can change in there as well. I do find it interesting that you can put any MP3 file or record anything you want to be the doorbell sound internally. However, like mentioned above, some settings are doubled up in notifications and AI. Then you have a way to set a privacy screen, but it uses a generic picture and not the actual camera, so you have to remember what you want to block. Overall, I wouldn’t say this is a horrible camera, but it feels like it is their first iteration at making one. There are several things that put me off with it and not getting person notifications really makes it feel useless. It could be my porch style, but walking into the door it should notice me. It has some neat features and if you have other Aqara products, then the subscription service might be right for you. At least it has an option to record locally, albeit it being a hassle to scroll through.

I’ve tested a handful of smart doorbells over the years, but this one from Aqara instantly felt like the most thought-out option for anyone in the Apple ecosystem like me. The design is clean and modern. it actually looks good on your front door, which isn’t something I can say about most others. Setup was smooth, especially if you’re using HomeKit. The included hub makes a huge difference, unlocking extra automations and giving the whole experience an ease which goes a long way in smart home devices. Video quality is sharp day or night, and I’ve been impressed with the speed of notifications. Even two-way audio was surprisingly clear, I was able to speak to a delivery person from my downstairs Mac mini easily and could understand them well in reverse. Battery or wired install options are a great touch, and the HomeKit Secure Video integration means I didn’t have to pay for another subscription just to store clips. This is the first smart doorbell that truly feels like it was designed with iOS users in mind. It just works. If Apple ever made a doorbell, it’d probably look and function a lot like this. Pros: • Super clean design that blends well • Works flawlessly with Apple HomeKit • Flexible wired or battery install • Crisp video and clear two-way audio • No extra subscription required with HSV Cons • Some advanced features require a bit of app digging I was provided this unit to test from Best Buy.

Really nice doorbell kit. It comes with the doorbell camera, an electronic chime that acts as a hub, 6 AA batteries (more on this)!, all the required hardware to get it installed on your door (they even include an angle wedge should you need angle your cam a bit). You have to bare in mind that his cam is a little cluckier and wide compared to other ones (feels very plasticky) due to the fact that it uses 6 AA batteries (why couldn't they include an internal rechargeable battery to make it smaller?), I would guess If you are looking for a cam that uses replaceable batteries, this is the one for you, however that is what makes it wider that others... You can also connect it directly to your doorbell power if you don't want to use the battery. Then you scan the barcode on the chime/hub and connect it to their app and your WIFI. The great thing about this cam, is that the hub (which is powered by a type C USB port, no power brick included btw) has a microSD card slot, so you can record everything locally and without the need of any cloud storage or subscriptions (they do have one and this kit includes 3 months free of that, but its not necessary), the hub also adds as a matter hub (can also connect to Apple HomeKit). The video is clear and you can change many settings in their app (I was surprised to see it also has lingerer alerts, device tamper alerts) and its very accurate because it has a radar sensor (I had to tone it down to avoid false alerts). You can talk to the person at your door and I was surprised to see you can mask your voice and change it so they do not recognize it (if you are that paranoid, but neat feature anyways). One major con I found out is that its not completely weather proof, you have to be careful with it and its recommended to install it on a place that is covered (make sure if on your front door, you have some shade or roof over it), I also learned they sell a silicone cover that adds better protection.... I feel this should have been included in the kit, if they new it was not completely weatherproof since its designed to seat outside your home.... In all, highly recommend it if you want a doorbell that doesn't tie you to pricey subscriptions just to have some cloud storage or you are worried about privacy and want your videos stored locally, this is the one for you!

The Aqara Video Doorbell is a good choice for anyone wanting to get away from the Ring or Arlo line of products. I had never heard of this brand before the doorbell and after having gotten some time with this video doorbell I'm looking at their other products to add to my place. I liked how very easy it was to set up the doorbell cam. The little speaker acts the as the control hub and is synced with the doorbell out the box, you'll actually be syncing the speaker/control hub to the app. Getting set up on the app, adjusting your settings, and recoding sensitivities is very easy to learn. Aqara provides a trial of their cloud storage and really pushes for continued membership but the hub also has a slot for microSD storage so if you decide not to renew you still have an alternative to save video. I actually had some old microSD cards from back when cell phones still used them so it was a great feature to have. The only complaint I found was the power supply choices, you have a hardwire or 6 x AA batteries. Compared to others that have rechargable batteries using AA seems like an odd and antiquated choice. Aqara does provide the first set in box and as far as I can tell the batteries should last about 1-2months, this varries with settings, higher frequency and more sensitive recording will eat up batteries faster than lower settings. Besides that one conplaint I'm verry happy with the Aqara Video Doorbell. Its nice to have a way of checking when my packages arrive and seeing if there are lingering persons around my door. I would absolutely recommend this one for anyone needing a video doorbell.

I have been using this doorbell camera for about a week. I am surprised at the battery drain in that time. It's about 50% drained. It takes AA batteries so at this rate, I will be replacing them twice a month! I did just adjust some of the settings to save the battery but that decreases the effectiveness of the camera. I am using it simultaneously as the "other" brand of doorbell camera to compare. It calls motion detection "lingerers". I was able to program my face into face detection so it does not alert me when I enter the house. The camera lens seems to be a bit more "fish eye" than the other brand. It covers about the same area but it looks a little wider. I am including a picture showing both views side by side for comparison. You can but the door chime anywhere in your house that is convenient for you. It does need to be plugged into a USB port in order to work. From the app, you can select different tones for the ring. That is a nice feature. I don't have any other Aqara devices attached to the app so I cannot speak to the connection between the accessories. Other than the battery drain (and that it is not rechargeable), I would have given it 5 stars. It can be hard wired in and would then be powered that way but I did not want to hire someone to do that. Last time I hard wired a doorbell (another brand), it stopped receiving power from the wires after a few months!

The Aqara G410 is both a Doorbell and a smart hub for Aqara devices as well as 3rd-party Matter devices. It’s my first look into the Aqara ecosystem and I’d have to say that this doorbell and the Aqara app really hit the marks. Bottom line: This is one of the most versatile offerings I’ve seen in a doorbell system that would work for almost anyone in the market looking to make the move to a smarter home. Overview: Spec-wise, the G410 is a 1440p (2K) resolution camera with a 175 degree field of view, giving you that super wide view of what’s going on at your doorstep. It utilizes mmWave aide in motion detection to reduce false alerts so it’s not relying solely on video motion as people/pets/objects move closer to your doorstep. If needed, two-way audio allows you to speak to your front door guests from anywhere as long as you have access to the Aqara app and have internet access. It comes equipped with 2.4/5GHz dual band WiFi for a strong connection between the doorbell and the chime as well as other Aqara devices should you decide to invest in their ecosystem. The doorbell can be used wirelessly via 6AA alkaline batteries giving you about 5 months of use, or hard-wired to your existing home. A huge surprise is the inclusion of a microSD slot, allowing for local 24/7 recordings without the need for a subscription, which I think will make a ton of people happy. First Impressions: At first glance, the doorbell is actually quite large. It’s so large that I think guests will have little to no problem locating it. Its size can be attributed to both the 6AA batteries that it has to house. It is offered in black, white and what I’m going to call graphite, so depending on what color you choose, you can make this doorbell blend in with the aesthetics of your home exterior. Setup: I opted to use the included 6AA batteries and was able to get them in within 5 minutes of opening. The chime itself is powered via USB and was placed within reasonable distance from the front door. What took much, much longer was the app setup. The Aqara app requires a QR code to add a new Aqara device. The doorbell itself had one, and the chime had three. Naturally I chose the doorbell QR code and was greeted with an error message stating it was the incorrect code. Long story short, I scanned every single QR code until something stuck. Once added to my account, I was able to see my doorbell feed on the app. I pressed the doorbell button and received my first chime! The app notified me of the doorbell being pressed almost instantly. Out-of-the-box Daily Use: I feel like most consumers will use this doorbell as is for the first few weeks before honing in on what works best for their home. Performance out-of-the-box has been pleasantly well. Each ring of the doorbell has prompted the chime to ring inside the house and app notifications come through perfectly. When it comes to notifications, I love that I can swipe down on my banner notification and actually see a snap of the person ringing the doorbell rather than just see a worded message. What I actually found surprising was its ability to detect people coming within proximity of the doorbell and reporting a “lingerer” and a “package” at your doorstep. I found this surprisingly useful as a notification because I know a lot of deliveries come to the door and the delivery driver usually doesn’t ring the doorbell. For the most part, these are the three main notifications that I’ve been receiving from the doorbell. Based on the default settings in the app, proximity detection is set to about 10 feet, which is when I start to get the lingerer notifications. Finally, the doorbell does let people know that it is being seen; the doorbell icon will begin to flash red and blue (and honestly, I can’t figure out if there’s a meaning between red and blue) to let someone know that the doorbell button is right here. Battery Life: This is the most difficult thing to measure, especially if you live in a high traffic area or if you live in the middle of nowhere. Aqara advertises 5 months between battery swaps, but after a week I was down to about 80% using the default settings. So we’ll see. For those of you that are lucky enough to hardwire, this won’t be an issue for you. The Aqara Home App: The Aqara Home App is quite overwhelming, even for the most tech savvy. The good news is that if you only have the doorbell as your sole Aqara device, then you don’t really need to venture too far down the app’s rabbit hole. On the bottom left corner of the app, there is a “Home” button that takes you directly to the Device page and a preview of your doorbell’s feed. If you tap into the doorbell, you’ll be able to see the doorbell’s Control Panel where you can see your event history in a list or in a timeline. The timeline is a great way to review events by simply scrolling up or down to see the video history as opposed to the list view where you have to click into each one. That’s my preference, anyway. When it comes to dialing in your doorbell, there are two main features that I would change to make the doorbell perform better, especially when it comes to those using it via battery. The first would be to change the proximity sensor trigger distance. Defaulted to 3 meters, the value can be changed from 1 meter to 5 meters. So if your door is right off the street, then you might want to shorten the proximity detection to preserve battery and reduce the amount of unneeded notifications. The second thing I would change is the privacy zones, especially if your porch has things that easily move due to wind or the like. This will further reduce the amount of unnecessary notifications and preserve battery life. The HomeGuardian Service: Like most other companies, Aqara offers a paid service that offers cloud recording. If you purchase the G410 “Select”, you’ll be given 90 days of cloud service on their HomeGuardian Basic plan. And so far, it has been solid in keeping all my recordings, up to 90 days. Also given with the basic plan are other detections such as People, Package, Vehicle, Animal, and even Fire. There’s a full listing and description of each feature provided by HomeGuardian in the app. But then there is HomeGuardian Unlimited, which adds AI analysis to your video feeds. It’s a nice-to-have, but not necessary to operate this doorbell. Each plan will cost you a monthly service fee. I’m a proponent of cloud use, but know that you have the ability to add a 512GB microSD card to keep recordings local to your home. The Aqara Hub: Finally, there’s the other aspect of this doorbell kit, which is the hub. I was not able to exercise this feature only because I had no other devices from Aqara or any Matter-specific devices that I could add. It did look like it supported Zigbee devices, but I think it’s only for Aqara devices. But looking through the app, I can see that there is a landing page dedicated for adding new devices, and there are a vast variety of accessories you can add. If you’re starting your smart home from scratch, then Aqara might be your one and only ecosystem. The app does have a page for the Aqara Store, where you can purchase more Aqara products to add to your ecosystem. Personally, I’m 3 ecosystems deep in my own home and I’m very envious of an Aqara system that does it all.

I’ve been wanting to try some Aqara products for a while because they’re gaining a great reputation in the smart home space. I’ve been using Google video doorbells for quite some time — both the first and second generations — but when the Aqara G410 became available, I decided to give it a try. It checked all the boxes for me, including HomeKit support, which was a big selling point. First Impressions Out of the box, the doorbell is huge — much larger than most competitors that offer the same feature set. The size seems to come from its dual power design: it supports both battery and hardwired power, but the batteries are standard AAs. So, most of the bulk comes from the compartment needed to hold them. I’m using mine hardwired, so I can’t comment on battery life. The build is mostly plastic — nothing fancy to look at — just a large black rectangular slab. However, the doorbell button itself is excellent: large, nicely raised, glows red so visitors know where to press, and gives a satisfying, clicky tactile feedback when pushed. Installation & Design Flaw My first and almost only complaint is about the security screw and its location. My doorbell is mounted on the right side of my door frame, with brick on either side. Because of the size of the unit and the need to use the angled wedge bracket, I have no way to access the security screw to tighten the doorbell to the frame. Where the screw is positioned makes it impossible to reach in this setup. It would’ve been much better if the screw were accessible from the top or bottom instead of the side. This doesn’t affect performance, but it’s frustrating not being able to secure it properly. Power & Chime Setup I wired the doorbell into my home’s existing low-voltage wiring from the original doorbell. One thing to note: the G410 does not support using your existing chime. You must use the included chime that comes in the box. This chime plugs into an outlet via USB-C and should stay within moderate range of the doorbell. It’s fine — gets very loud, and the volume is adjustable. It also has a microSD card slot for local storage, so you don’t need an Aqara subscription to view recorded events or use 24/7 timeline recording. While I wish it supported existing chimes, this isn’t a dealbreaker. Setup & Smart Home Integration Setup is super simple. You can either download the Aqara Home app or just open Apple Home and scan the included HomeKit QR code to add it directly. I highly recommend also downloading the Aqara app because that’s where you’ll find all the advanced configuration options, fine-tuning, and additional features that make this doorbell great. Once the chime is paired (and powered via USB-C), you’re good to go. Aqara does offer cloud storage subscription plans, but I’m using a local microSD card, so all my recordings are stored locally — nothing goes to the cloud. Another major plus: the doorbell acts as a built-in Aqara Home Hub. You don’t need to buy a separate hub to connect or automate other Aqara or Matter-compatible smart home devices. That’s a huge bonus if you’re building a connected ecosystem. Video Quality & Performance The 2K video quality is excellent — clear during both day and night. Out of the box, the image looked slightly dark, but you can adjust the exposure in the app. I bumped mine up about 16% (to around 66% total), which provided the best color balance and brightness for my setup. One of my favorite features is the on-device facial recognition, which uses millimeter-wave radar. Because I also have an Aqara smart door lock, I created an automation so that when the doorbell recognizes family faces, it automatically unlocks the front door. It’s not lightning fast — you have to face the camera for a second or two — but it’s incredibly convenient, especially when carrying groceries or bags. With HomeKit integration, it gets even better: when someone approaches the door, our Apple TV automatically displays a live video feed. You get instant alerts and don’t have to pull out your phone. The millimeter-wave radar also enables linger detection, notifying you if someone is loitering near your door. It works well but can sometimes send false alerts, so I ended up disabling that feature. Still, it’s great to have the option. Field of View & Aspect Ratio The G410 improves on the original G4 with a 1440p 4:3 aspect ratio, giving you a taller field of view and 175° coverage overall. You can see more of visitors head-to-toe, plus packages left near the door. It’s not the tallest FOV in the market (my Google 2nd-gen doorbell shows slightly more vertically), but it’s wide, clear, and very usable. Customization & Privacy Features The Aqara app offers tons of customization. You can tweak video resolution, switch between black-and-white or color night vision, and even set up privacy zones — areas in the frame that you don’t want recorded. You can also upload custom audio files, which is great for seasonal greetings or announcements when specific faces are recognized. Final Thoughts Overall, performance has been fantastic. I’ve had a few false events where motion wasn’t detected right away, but since I record locally 24/7, I haven’t missed anything important. Facial recognition has noticeably improved over time with updates. I would highly recommend the Aqara G410 to anyone who wants top-tier doorbell features without paying a subscription for video storage. Aqara does lock some newer AI features behind a paywall, but they’re not essential for normal operation. I’m really glad I upgraded to the G410 — it’s powerful, flexible, and integrates perfectly into my smart home setup.

Good doorbell and good camera too. Connection can be a little finicky if the hub is a little far from the doorbell. The integration with apple homekit is seamless. My main annoyances is on the aqara app, which is a little cluttered, it’s hard to find the options. Also the manual says it can be battery powered for up to 5 months, but the best got was 5 days on low battery mode.

The Aqara Doorbell Camera arrived quickly, which was important since I was in the middle of moving. Setup was straightforward and syncing it with my iPhone app took just a few minutes. The video quality is excellent at 2K resolution, and overall performance has been reliable. I’d definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Not too hard to install and high quality construction. Had some trouble with initial setup but a firmware update and a reset solved the problem. Extremely clear video and great integration with HomeKit.

Setup was fairly simple. Both with the app and getting it synced with HomeKit. For the first day or so I thought my search for a good HomeKit compatible doorbell was over until I realized the only notifications I was receiving were “lingering”. Which means someone is standing near the camera (ie my front door) for more than a few seconds. This meant package drop offs went completely missed, and if I lived in a bad area package thefts would get missed too!! I searched and searched in the app but couldn’t find a place to turn on package detection or modify anything regarding the lingering. These may be features nested behind the ai functionality which is a paid feature, but I am looking for a fee free camera that can use apples secure video which I already pay for. Maybe I missed something but I couldn’t figure it out. If this gets fixed in an update or something I think I’d go back because I liked the doorbell camera otherwise. Especially the speed in loading the video. I came from a 2nd gen nest/google doorbell and loading time would take 30 seconds if it loaded at all.

Sorry to hear that you don't have a good user experience with the Aqara G410. Could you please have enabled the proximity trigger detection? If yes, please try to turn it off and try again. The proximity detection is turned on by default. Its role is to filter some events, reduce false detection . When the proximity detection is turned on, there must be a complete process of approaching from a distance. It will not be triggered if you keep moving in front of the doorbell. AqaraBazaarvoice
