Worked twice before breaking

Don't buy these products. Mine broke after using it twice. It won't get past the "Press 1up to start game" screen. I called Arcade1up support who took my information and promised a new part would be sent. That was three weeks ago. I still haven't even received the email nor the part. I am sitting on hold for their support again!

Faithful game play, controls could be better

If you're looking for arcade fun bang for your buck, this will provide it. All the games are exactly what you remember blowing your weekly allowance on in the early 1980s. The cabinet is well decorated with the original artwork, but it feels less than sturdy. The riser is nice and allows you to play standing. The track ball control is the best and allows for a faithful reproduction of the Centipede & Missile Command games. I was less than impressed with the knob used for Tempest. It felt cheap and the "notches" you have to click through slows down the shooter's movement in the game. Would have preferred Battlezone to some of the lesser known Atari games included, but overall a pretty good arcade game.

There is a lot to like with this package. 12 games and the riser to start. They had to compromise on the screen since some games are vertical and some horizontal. Like in Centipede you have black borders on the left and right sides and since the game has a black background you are not sure where the edges always are. Many people complained about the controls especially the Spinner. on mine I felt the controls worked well. Trackball worked good and the spinner worked fine on my unit. I have played the original arcade cabinets and these are not as good but worked just fine to play the games.
Overall a solid unit and with 12 games there's always something someone may like.

Some issues, some fixes & ultimately a fun arcade!

Knowing a high quality arcade would be $1500+, and this was a small startup company, I had moderate even low expectations of quality...but loved the classics Asteroids, Missile Command Centipede and Tempest so much i was willing to risk it. 2 issues out of the box had me worried.
The trackball performance was sluggish enough, especially on up and down that Centipede and Missile Command gameplay suffered badly. Knowing it was a fairly cheap trackball I was skeptical a return would be much better so I removed and took the trackball completely apart and noticed that the ball was in fact touching the 3 silver cylinders that turned the sensors..HOWEVER..one of them was not turning very well due to so little friction between ball and cylinder that responsiveness was poor and gameplay stunk. I removed the cylinders carefully will tweezers and scored them longways with fine sandpaper to give them a slightly rougher texture to have more friction with the ball when turning. Dramatic difference... trackball performs great now and Centipede and Missile command are the blast I remember and gameplay is great.
Now the spinner..yes it's cheap light plastic and nothing you can do will make it spin freely like the arcade. However I did take it apart too and added a lot of weight to it by epoxying 7 pennies on each side of the plastic brace on the hollow inside of it..then wedged tin foil to make sure they stayed flush and didn't ever move. It still doesn't spin freely..but just has a much heavier better feel now when playing Tempest and I'm quite happy with gameplay now and can score well. If you have proper expectations with these machines and love these games...and maybe willing to do a few tweaks..I think they can be a great add to the house. Asteroids is a blast out of the box. Quite happy with it overall myself..and glad I didn't have to pay $1500+ for a MAME which usually has boring artwork. Love the art on this. I hope Arcade1 in the future will spend a little more on better controls.. I would have rather paid 100 more for awesome controls out of the box..but still will spend many hours playing this thing with my tweaks to it.

Not BestBuy fault. This was factory sealed. It was missing 3 majors parts and it couldn’t be built.

Picked mine up from the store and once assembled, found that 2 of the buttons didn't work. I inspected them and they would not "click" or actuate their switches even when cleaned. I called the company and they sent me replacement buttons via UPS ground. Also, my On/Off switch is backwards - no big deal but again shows the level of craftsmanship that went into these. Trackball seems a little slow for the designated games but is playable. Arcade purists probably won't like the trackball or spinner but I've never played any of these games in their original state. The spinner is not smooth and clicks into each position but can be modified. Check out mods on YouTube. They also made a mistake when packaging the screws. One pack was supposed to be 16 short screws to mount the monitor but the package contained only 3 screws that were too long - which would've gone clear through the bezel if they were used without question. Another issue is when you're viewing the control screen for a selected game: It tells you to hold the TWO player button for 5 sec to return to the main menu. That doesn't work. You have to enter the game, then hold the ONE player button for 5 seconds to return to the menu. I still give it 3 stars because I DO love these games and the cabinet looks great. Artwork is really nice but doesn't have a protective layer so it can scratch easily. Overall, I like the machine (after everything was fixed) but the price is a tad high considering the poor craftsmanship.

Happy with Purchase

Cabinet is in perfect condition and the unit looks great!
Spinner/paddle is not free-spinning like it was on the original Tempest machines--it feels more like an Atari 2600 paddle but works fine. The roller ball doesn't seem as precise as it did on the old Centipede machines but it is good enough. On some games, it's hard to know where the left/right boundaries are. Would have been a nice touch if the marquee was backlit. Has a two-player option that is a nice feature. On/Off and volume controls are on the game control panel. Volume control consists of OFF, MEDIUM, LOUD. Some on-screen directions are wrong but the unit comes with a sticker for the controller panel offering info on the correct button use. I purchased this unit for the 12 games vs. the 4 you get with the other cabinets. I wouldn't buy any of these without the riser. Sound is loud and clear but appears to be mono as there is only one speaker. there is no way to alter the difficulty of the games like you could do on the original games. Assembly time for the cabinet and riser is about 2 hours. The last two pieces that you attach to the riser require pre-drilled holes on the edge of a previously installed part...if you miss those two practically invisible holes and mis-orient those two boards you will have to disassemble and reorient so that the two edge holes are pointing upwards for the last two pieces you attach to the riser...this should have been highlighted in the instructions.
Overall, very pleased with this purchase!

The trackball is very nice and the buttons are okay, but the spinner is pure garbage. It's a hollow plastic thing that you can literally FEEL mechanically bumping a switch to register rotation. If you're familiar with an actual arcade spinner, it's a hefty metal knob connected to a disc with holes, with optical sensors peeking through them. That ain't what you're getting here. Every "bump" or two moves you to the next segment in Tempest; the software is able to animate your thing "crawling", but the spinner device resolution is so poor that it just doesn't happen.
The video resolution is very poor (like, 800x600 or worse, by my visual estimation), which makes for a lot of visible jaggies on the "vector" games. The monitor is roughly 13.25x10.5 inches, so the vertical games have unused real estate on the sides. Tempest, strangely, seems letterboxed on all four sides.
Missile Command and Liberator play pretty well. Quantum is nearly unplayable because the trackball sensitivity is set too low, whereas Centipede and Millipede seem like the trackball sensitivity is set just a bit too HIGH.
Lunar Lander doesn't use either of the available analog controls for thrust, so that leaves you tapping a button to pulse-thrust, which isn't how the arcade machine worked.
Button placement is okay for everything except Gravitar and the two Asteroids games, just because the tractor beam / hyperspace button is "C", NEXT TO the rotation buttons, rather than below them where your thumb could reach.
Sound is pretty good; it's just a single speaker and the volume control is a 3-position switch though, so don't get your hopes up too much.
I haven't assembled the cabinet yet, but there's no way this could be a solid $400 value unless the spinner control was as solid and authentic as the trackball is, and the graphics were at least as good at simulating a vector display as a 15-year-old laptop running MAME can.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant to purchase this item, I decided to go ahead with my purchase due to the low price point. The unit arrived with no damage to the box, I noticed that it was packaged very nicely and everything was wrapped carefully to avoid the pieces rubbing together during shipping. I assembled the riser first, and then the unit. I found the instructions to be excellent and total assembly time for both items was 2.0 hours. I had no issues during assembly, and I didn’t have any damage or scratches on any of the items. I turned it on and was gaming right away, I find the controls to be precise and able to do the job on every game. I have seen several complaints from people saying that they aren’t that good, I am here to tell you that the controls work just fine. The only odd thing that I have found is that I need to push the 1 player and 2 player buttons at the same time to go back to the main menu, the instructions say to hold down the 1 player button for 5 seconds, which doesn’t work on my unit. I am 6’ 3” and I found that even with the riser, I was looking down on the screen at an awkward angle, I solved this by using a 36” stool to sit on while playing.Anyway, I am extremely happy with this purchase, for $400, its a no brainer! Really good quality, and a very solid build.

System came well packaged.... Cabinet assembly instructions were straightforward and easy to follow.. Assembly time was a little over an hour. ( Not rushing... ). There are instructional videos online, but anyone with any mechanical aptitude will probably not need to watch them... The system works well, and the games act just like the originals.. Great product for a reasonable cost....
I do have an issue with the monitor, ( Bad Pixel line...) and getting in touch with customer support has not been easy..... ( POST HOLIDAY RUSH ???? )... Spent over 1 hour on hold several times with No Answer... and left several online requests for service.... Took them almost 2 weeks to respond.... They have finally responded and have said they will send new monitor....

Hours of Fun

The cabinet is a lot of fun. Assembly required positioning the pieces in the right position so it was a bit tricky. The cabinet artwork is impressive. My fav games are Centipede/Millipede, Missile Command, Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe, Tempest, Crystal Castles, Quantum and Lunar Lander. My only gripes would be the inability to save high scores on most games, lack of a utility screen to change sensitivity of trackball/spinner and the diagonal position of the D/E buttons. I only played Asteroids/Centipede/Missile Command during my youth so it's great to be exposed to previously unknown classic games.

All cabs should come with this many games IMO. The ones with 3 or 4 games is a bit stiff for $300. With the deluxe and the 12 games and riser included is the most bang for your buck out of this wave of machines. However I feel that these machines are a little bit too expensive for their price point. They should all be $50 less. Otherwise, great value!

This is a wonderful value for an arcade machine. Easy to set up and solid construction. Controls work great. Standing and sitting options with or without the riser. Best deal for the number of games you get with this package compared to the other available machines. Highly recommend as a gift for the upcoming holidays!

The assembly instructions were awesome! (Not including the Riser - that was sketchy). The ball responds well, as does the firing button. It works just like the original full size machine!
The Only Thing GAMERS WILL HATE: is that the high scores you just worked so hard to get, will disappear as soon as you turn off the game!!! WTH? Didn’t they think about the pride we have for our efforts????? They need a memory card at the very least!! Cause you don’t want to leave the game on forever and ever.

Good things:
+Decent price (which could be part of the problem)
+Easy to put together
+Nice artwork
+ Aesthetically cute and arcadey
Bad things:
- The panel artwork is not protected. It will wear off, since no laminate to protect the panel art. Acrylic spray is NOT a solution, since that would also wear and become porous.
-Spinner is really a clicky dial and is awful and seems no way the clicky switch design of this will last very long.
-Tempest is not very playable. DItto for any game with the "spinner"
-Centipede is the wrong ratio and impact playability
-Trackball does not seem to have a sweet spot for any game
Mine is going back tomorrow. Frankly, I would rather pay $100 more and get a 19" display (so Centipede could have correct ratio and not be tiny to keep ratio), control panel protection, and a better spinner and trackball.
For $500, I would be VERY happy with better controls, laminate panel protection and bigger display, to offset the Centipede ratio issue.

The point of these cabinets is to have true arcade feel.
if you buying this for asteroids you dont get the real control setup like the reg cabinet has. or if you getting for centipede you get stuck playing on a horizontal screen, you are better off buying the 299. cabs for the true arcade play

I have dreamed of owning an authentic arcade game cabinet since I first laid eyes on Space Invaders some 40 years ago. I now feel like that dream has come true. These are about as close to original as you can get for the price. Very happy with the purchase and plan to add more for my home arcade.

This was a present we gave to our son for Christmas. A little early because we were going out of town. He loves it and didnt want to go on vacation. All the controls work great and I was worried about the volume, from the reviews, but we didn't even put it on high and it sounds great. It's great to see him having this much fun for the fraction of the cost of a real arcade game. We're hoping our son will allow us to play it sometime.
