NETGEAR Arlo Pro 2
2-Camera Wire-Free Security System
Model #VMS4230P
Unboxing: This was my 1st foray into private wireless home security; so, I can’t compare it to other systems. This system includes a base station + 2 wireless cameras (& 1 wired option), which is adequate for a starter security system. If you rent an apt. or home, you can easily take this system w/you when you move.
Setup: Very simple & straightforward. The Quick Start Guide gave clear-cut instructions for the entire setup process. You just plug the Base Station to power & Ethernet to your router. Log in to or create an Arlo acct. online via computer or smartphone, & the screens guide you perfectly thru each step. This process was flawless (as opposed to many other tech products that seem to omit a step here or there). Hardware setup time: approx. 20 min. Software setup time: still ongoing, as you can play w/the App endlessly.
Cameras: Easy setup instructions here also. Simply insert the rechargeable battery (or included camera power adapter cable) & sync w/the Base Station. Each camera has a microphone & a speaker, & they’re weather resistant. The microphone is adequate & plenty sensitive, but the speaker is tinny (not unexpected due to the compact size of the camera). The picture/color quality (1080p HD) is impressive & the night vision is very good. The 130° viewing angle is better than I’d expected. I mounted 1 camera near our mailbox since there has been some recent vandalism in our neighborhood, & the other near the front door. It’s wonderful to know instantly when someone is at the door or when the mail has been delivered.
Mounting: This system comes w/2 magnetic half-moon-shaped wall mounts & screws/screw anchors. The magnets are very strong which allows for lots of flexibility. The downside to this type of mount is the inability to hang a camera from the ceiling. Also, because it dangles from 1 screw, the weight of the camera causes the mount to slide or tilt & not remain stationary. I had to break out the double-stick & duct tape to secure the mounts. Arlo has some better adjustable mounts available for separate purchase if needed.
Arlo App: 5-star App! The App is an absolute necessity & allows for very detailed customization of each camera. The mobile alert feature is fantastic. I tested both cameras & received a notification on my phone w/in 2-3 seconds after the camera activated. You can then immediately view the video of the activity. It also allows for live viewing, although there is about a 15-sec delay on the video. The delay can cause a bit of confusion if you’re attempting to talk to someone via the microphone/speaker. Overall, the App is able to make just about every conceivable adjustment. I also received an email from Arlo w/some very good tips & solutions as well as a helpful pointer to their online community.

Great Minor Improvements Over Arlo Pro
|

I already own the Arlo Pro and am very happy with it. I found upgrading to the Arlo Pro2 very easy and am pleased with the improvements, with a few exceptions.
Setup is pretty straightforward, and it was very easy to remove the old Arlo Pro base and set up the new Arlo Pro 2 base. Adding both the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 cameras to the base was done quickly and easily.
The three main improvements I noticed from upgrading to the Arlo Pro 2 cameras was better picture and video quality during the daytime, 3 second look-back function if connected to a power source, and addition of activity zones.
It is obvious why you would want better picture and video quality, so I included a photo comparing the two cameras during the day and at night. The quality is much improved during the day, with the colors being more accurate. I did not see a huge difference in the nighttime picture, but thought the image was a little harder to see than the Arlo Pro. I hope Arlo comes out with an update to fix this, because I was expecting better quality for the Arlo Pro 2. In addition, I have noticed the batteries draining a little faster than the original Arlo Pro. I assume this is because of 1080p on the Arlo Pro 2.
The 3 second look-back function is a great feature to have if you are using the camera to record fast-acting porch pirates. I noticed if an object moves quickly enough, it takes a little time for the recording to start. This feature allows you to see critical images you would have not captured otherwise.
The addition of the activity zones was a nice touch. The Arlo Pro did not have this feature, and I would receive notices due to cars driving by. It is nice to be able to get the camera angle you want without activating an alert unnecessarily.
I would recommend the Arlo Pro 2 over the Arlo Pro because of the 3 second look-back function and the activity zones. These two functions, in my mind, make it worth the upgrade, but I would consider purchasing older Arlo cameras to use in other areas, where these features are unimportant, to save money.

This is my second set of Arlo products, I am adding two of the newer, more capable Arlo 2 cameras to my existing Arlo base-station which remains unchanged between generations of Arlo and Arlo 2. This system is really easy to setup, install the rechargeable battery in the camera, charge it and press a button on the base-station and camera simultaneously to link the camera to the base-station, easy and simple. The cameras are weatherproof and the rechargeable battery lasts almost SIX months, at least for my use cases. The images and video this setup provides is of high quality, with configurable motion detection and night vision. The Arlo system provides an all in one solution with free cloud recording (an available premium level service is available). You can download and install the Android or IOS app which provides just about all the functionality you would need (real time alerts, viewing and some configuration options). Two major differences I see between the Arlo (720p/130 degree field of vision) and Arlo 2 (1080p/170 degree field of vision). Now you would think the Arlo 2 would have an advantage over the older model, it does 1080p resolution and has a wider field of vision (170 degrees). The only downside I see is the wider field of view has a more distorted image, similar to a fish eye lens (see the difference in the sample pics). Depending on your use case the wider view might make sense. For instance you can see the entire front of my shed in my sample pic, however you can see how vertical lines bend. In any case this is a solid solution and easy to setup.
Pros:
- Well built cameras, weatherproof
- Easy setup
- Free cloud recording
- Totally wireless
- Amazing rechargeable battery life
Cons:
- no real advanced configuration options in the base station or cameras
- Distortion in image (fish eye effect)
- Not inexpensive
- No pan or optical zoom

Not reliable.. serious lag time.. tiling.. says device is offline frequently.. from the time it sends a notification you won’t see anything in in your library to view for a minute or so.. records a portion of activity.. Neighbors were in my driveway feet away from the camera getting their cat from under my car, it recorded half of it.
When you view videos it jumps, and freezes.
Battery life is not great either. Super disappointed.

I've used Arlo cameras for a little over a year now. I have 6 original Arlo cameras, I have two Arlo Pro cameras and recently added two Arlo Pro 2 cameras.
I used the Arlo Pro 2 cameras to replace the two main cameras outside the front of my house. The batteries would run down fairly quickly on the original cameras that I had there, simply due to the traffic flow. I wanted to wait a little while to review to see what the battery life was like with the new cameras and so far I am very impressed, especially for a high traffic area, when I can get up to 300 videos per day produced.
The Arlo Pro 2 cameras have the ability to be hard wired, so you can also essentially set them up to have DVR functionality. I wanted to be able to have that option as well.
With the hard wired functionality, you can also set predetermined motion zones, so that if you do have a high traffic area, you can negate that area, so you don't get alerts all the time. That is definitely a nice feature.
The cameras are larger than the original cameras, but the same size as the Arlo Pro cameras. They connected directly to the base station no problem (I already had the second generation base station with siren installed, so that was nice and easy. To pair the camera, simply press the Sync button on the base station for 2 seconds and let go. Then press the Sync button on the camera for two seconds and let go. The lights flash blue for about 10 secs and then rapidly flash. You are then good to go and set them up in the Arlo app.
I have the $9.99 a month recording plan, that gives me 30 days of recording up to 10GB. This is more than enough for my needs and covers the 10 cameras I now have in the system. I think it's very reasonably priced. The Arlo website is nice and clean. Easy to navigate and use. I have assigned notifications via email and push, so that I know what's going on. The push is instant, so sometimes you have to wait for the recording to finish, before you can review it!
Daytime recording is nice and crisp and clean, and night vision is vastly improved over the original cameras. I can see my vehicle parked out front of the house from 50 ft away nice and clearly.
I still wish that there was a way to rotate the image 90 degrees. You can rotate it 180 degrees for when you have to have the camera mounted upside down, but if you are shooting down a hallway or the side of the house, it would be nice to be able to rotate the camera image 90 degrees.
Overall I would heartily recommend these cameras. Easy to set up, easy to install, great picture quality, and functionality.

Looking for a good home monitor system? Well then the Arlo pro may be right up your alley. Lets find out if this is the right fit for you and what exactly you can hope to receive. First off the one thing i want to get across is that this is a home monitoring system and not a actual security system. At least as of this review the subscription plans basically only include cloud service and will not dispatch or call any type of service for you in the event of an emergency. I find that this set up works perfect for anyone with an existing home security system or anyone with children they may want to monitor while away from the home. So out of the box you are going to receive two hd cameras with a magnetic base, wall mount screws, rechargeable batteries and base station with a built in siren. Set up is done very easily simply screw the wall mounts wherever you wish to place your cameras and attach the camera to the base. The cameras have a magnet on them so you can attach and remove them as you please all with ease. Next simply download the Arlo app and hook your base station up to your modem via an Ethernet cable then link the two together and your good to go.
Lets talk functionality and what you can expect out of this system. First off one of the nice features of this system is once it is all set up you can add and invite people to download the app and have access to the security cameras. The app allows for a master controller meaning that if you are the main owner you can control what cameras your other users are allowed to see and you can cut of their access at anytime time. This means you can allow them to view all, one or none of the cameras mounted. Now the home base has a 100 decibel siren built in to it that can be activated either manually through the app or it be set up to be triggered by one of your motion sensor cameras. The monition sensor cameras are very sensitive so i find that setting it up to activate for motion is not a good idea unless you live way out in the country or mountains with neighbors that are a mile away. The Siren is very loud and will wake up everyone in the house for sure. Now the cameras are wireless and run on a rechargeable battery and its really hard to say how much battery life you can expect to get out of them for the simple fact that the cameras will not run continuously and are set up to only run when motion is captured. I've used them for two whole days with average motion outside and im at about 75% battery life still. Id say this is very good considering that i should expect to get about a week out of a full charge at this pace. Everyones battery life is going to vary so keep that in mind. The cameras come with a built in two way mic. You can hear people outside and you can talk to them via the cameras. Now i own security cameras that have this function and the audio is usually distorted and horrible. The arlo pro audio is perfect, you can easily hear the outside and they can hear you clearly if you chose to talk through the mic. This function is a big plus if you have kids. For example lets say you leave your teenage kids home alone so you can have a date night and someone comes knocking on the door. Not only will you get an alert on your phone so can you can see who it is but your kids can pull up the camera see who it is and talk to them via the cameras all without ever having to open the door. Now lets say that's not a concern of yours but rather you want to watch them inside your house to make sure they are not getting in to anything they should. Since the cameras sit on a magnetic base you can then remove them and place them anywhere you want in your house and you can check up on them whenever you like and talk to them all via the cameras mic. The possibilities of what you can do and placement of these cameras is endless due to the fact that they can detach so easily and can be placed anywhere. Now the app also allows you to set up different motion sensor modes and you can also create a few different set ups. I provided a couple pictures showing different mode set ups and video quality. The cameras do come with night vision but i will say this, night vision is something you cant ever expect to be high quality so keep that in mind. Now as i said earlier the cameras will only run if something activates the sound or motion sensors or if you go to your Arlo app you can command them on to see whats going outside. Now lets say you own a business or for whatever reason you wish to have them run continuously. The cameras can be set up to accomplish this a few different ways. You can hardwire the cameras in to a direct power source such as an outlet or you can buy solar panel add ons which will keep the batteries charged if they are outside. Both set ups require the purchase of additional parts. Now the one thing i did not expect was that in order to have your cameras run continuously you also need to pay for Arlo's subscription plan in order for this to take affect. This means that even if you have the cameras all set up accordingly they will not run all the time unless you pay a fee. Kind of dumb right? Well to be honest with you there really is no need to run the cameras all the time unless you do own a business of some sort. As far as residential homes go, your not going to receive enough traffic to really need this feature plus that also provides alot of back logs for you to have to over and review. Now Arlo is going to give you free 7 day cloud storage. This is actually very good, some of my other security cameras only give me one day of cloud storage which almost forces you to pay for their subscription plans. Now lets say this is not good enough for you, Arlo does offer a huge variety of different plans. There's a category for home use and one category for business. I don't really want to go in to detail about the plans cause the list is long but if your curious about the pricing they can be found on Arlo's website without having to purchase the product.
Here's my final thoughts about Arlo's set up. These cameras are very easy to set up and are probably the most user friendly i have ever seen. The simple fact that there are no wires to run means that you can place these cameras at any location inside or outside your house. The magnetic base allows for you to easily remove the cameras to set them up in a different temporary location and then place them back to where you originally had them all with ease. These cameras are weather proof and come equipped with night vision making them an ideal outdoor set up. If you have children and have been thinking about getting a security set up for a while then the Arlo is almost a must. The camera audio/mic set up allows for you to stay in contact with your family rather your out on the town or at the office. The base with built in siren is loud enough to wake up everyone in the home and is almost guaranteed to scare of any intruder who was thinking of breaking in. All in all this is a good buy that allows for additional cameras to be hooked up to this system making it a smart choice if you wish to expand later on.
Pros:
-wireless
-base with built in siren
-Two way speaker
-Rechargeable batteries
-Free seven day trial
-Subscription plan with multiple choices to choose from
-Magnetic base that easily detaches
Cons:
-Grainy night vision
-Subscription plan required for continuous recording

I've used the Arlo (non-pro-non-2) for over a year now. I've gone through 24-ish batteries (costing ~ $17 for 12x CR123A batteries).
The new Arlo Pro 2 (I'll call AP2) is quite the step-up. First off, rechargeable batteries (yay!). Next, two-way audio (woah!). There's also a Continuous Recording feature, however the cameras need a permanent outside AC Power Source ... that I can't provide, so I don't have any input on that one.
With previous Arlo configuration experience, the setup was a snap ... hit the button on the base station, hit the sync buttons on the camera and you're off.
The Arlo App is OK -- it hasn't really evolved in the time I've had the original Arlo, so it could use a refresh. Configuring different "Armed" states is fine but again, the App is a little buggy when it comes to 'don't alert me or email me, just record' -- isn't there in some instances, but it is there in others (such as: you can't save the change for one option, but you can for others).
Though, once you're in, rename the camera for where it is; for example, I use my address + cardinal direction of the camera - just in case.
I'm able to set actions based on movement or sound, from different cameras; there's even a 'trigger the base station alarm' result, should there be activity in an area that there shouldn't be.
Right now, I have one AP2 mounted to a NETGEAR mount (~$25 to buy) and one on the included magnetic half-globe, screwed into a few 1x4s to make a right angle to mount the magnet - these work just fine for me.
I also have an original Arlo running without issue, along side the new ones (backward compatibility rejoice!).
All in all, this is fantastic. The microphone is fantastic for catching conversations and even found that the UPS guy doesn't ring my bell, he just yells "UPS!"
To recommend this would be an understatement - I guess it's off to buy the solar panel (for continuous charging, thus not likely continuous recording) now!

I am very impressed with this system. I had an older security camera that needed urgent replacement. This security system comes with many options and features with the easiest setup for this type of device. The major steps are downloading Arlo app, then creating a Netgear account and synchronizing cameras to the main system. Very easy to follow manual or in-app guided instruction. Once setup complete, all settings and option of each camera can be done using the Arlo app. What I like a lot about the system is that I can use a local storage using a USB cable to connect the base station to the USB hard drive. The Arlo does come with paid and free cloud storage. The free option only keeps the past seven (7) days of motion with audio. I recommend the additional storage on a local USB drive to backup your recording.
The Arlo Pro 2 has a great 1080p video quality with great audio recording. Night vision is good. The motion activated recording works how it should with no issue; this will save a lot of storage space and it will record what is most important. This is one of the best wireless DIY security camera systems on the market. The camera and the base station has a very simple and attractive design that matches the surrounding. It is an excellent size to hide it and use it as a discrete camera. This is great for renters because of its wireless feature it is easy to remove and take to a new location.

Finally A 1080p Wireless Security Camera By Arlo

There are quite a few good things about this Arlo wireless security system.
These Arlo wireless security cameras are really convenient, they can be fixed to the magnetic mounts pointing in any direction, and the cameras do have a plenty strong magnetic hold onto the mounts, which keeps the cameras firmly in the desired placement.
At the moment I have my Arlo cameras sitting on desks and countertops pointing towards my front and back doors, and also pointing at expensive belongings.
The rechargeable lithium batteries are well designed and have a quality feel.
The siren built into the Arlo base is plenty loud, the Arlo camera’s can be viewed anywhere that you have an internet connection to your Smartphone or computer, and if an intruder is seen, then the siren can be activated remotely.
It is possible to view the recorded video and adjust the camera’s settings from a desktop browser, and also from a smart phone.
The original selling price for this Arlo Pro security system is a bit much in my opinion, but so is having to replace expensive belongings if someone were to break in and steals your stuff.
The overall build quality of the Arlo cameras and base is good, but could be better.
The power supply to the base station is an average 12 volt power adapter, considering the original selling price, I was expecting a nicer power supply with a round cord.
The micro USB cable that charges the batteries, has a smaller than normal grabbing area on the micro USB connector side, which is not that easy to grab a hold of when trying to unplug the charging cable.
These newer Arlo Pro 2 cameras can now be charged by a USB 5 volt lithium battery pack that is 1.1 amps, this was not possible with the older Arlo Pro cameras.
When the micro USB cable is plugged into the camera, the rubber boot that covers the electrical connection, sticks out just far enough to prevent the cameras from sitting flat on a table, the cameras have to be sitting with the cable end hanging over the countertop, otherwise the rubber boot will be hitting the countertop.
There is no 1-800 phone number for technical support, it is necessary to call a phone number that could be long distance if you have a home phone with local access calling only. (These Arlo Pro 2 cameras only have 90 days of 24 hour phone tech support, so it is best to thoroughly test the Arlo security system as soon as possible, so that if you have any technical questions, then you can call and get the answers you need, before the 90 days runs out.)
I also own the older Arlo Pro cameras, and the packaging of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras is better than the packaging on the Arlo Pro cameras.
The Arlo wireless base is a bit smaller than I had expected, it kind of lacks a premium feel, it feels really light in the hand, I am sure it has sufficient components on the inside to handle the wireless signal transferring tasks, but the overall build of the Arlo base seems bit lacking.
I would recommend this product to a friend, as having a security camera guarding your belongings, is better than getting robbed and wishing you had a way of knowing who had done it.
Overall, the Arlo wireless security cameras are convenient and reasonably easy to setup, and the video quality is 1080p on these Arlo Pro 2 cameras, the older Arlo Pro cameras only had 720p.
I am rating this Arlo Pro 2 security camera’s at 3.8 out of 5 stars.

It’s nice being able to keep an eye on things when I’m away from home. I do have a security system but the camera that came with my xfinity security pales in comparison to these Arlos. The quality, app, and “rules” you can apply make this a very smart system.
Everything is app driven which is very convenient. I can setup schedules and motion sensitivities all within the robust app. The push notifications are almost instantaneous. It does take a bit of tinkering to get your camera’s setup so it doesn’t detect your indoor pets. The app also allows you to “two way” communicate through the cameras.
I’m currently running a camera in the garage and a camera on the main level. The hub is set near my router. Its set to arm when my phone isn’t within the geofencing area of the home. This is very convenient as its completely automated and requires no input from me. The app pushes an “armed” notification to me when I leave the house for work or a dog walk. And automatically disarms itself when im back within the set geofencing area.
The video quality is top notch and very fast to view live from your phone. I’m sure this is all dependent on your home network speeds along with your cell phone provider. You are able to easily share or download the recordings. The best part is that the basic “free” plan is pretty robust. You get temporary storage of your recordings up to 7 days. Big win as most of the other camera companies require some kind of subscription.
The battery life so far has been very impressive. Its only been a few weeks but the battery level hasn’t budged past 97%. I don’t see why it wouldn’t last the “months” that the website claims to do.
I’m very happy with this setup and will be adding more cameras to the system in the near future.

This security camera system is the best I have used to date and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for an affordable option to keep their homes and families safe:
Pros:
- Set up is extremely easy. You install the Arlo app on your phone and are up and running within 10 minutes.
- The system is expandable. This one comes with 2 cameras but you can add more.
- The picture and sound clarity is excellent (1080p video)
- The cameras can be placed almost anywhere very easily and have decent range. I mounted one that faces our front door. The magetic mount makes adjusting the angle simple and quick.
- Battery life on these wireless cameras is fantastic. I was still at or near 100% after 3 days on one camera as they conserve power by only recording video when motion or sound is detected.
- You can customize alerts. You can get emails sent when movement or sound occurs or you can choose to get push notifications to your phone. (Or both!). If something suspicious is occurring, you can then call the authorities.
- Monthly fees are optional for more features like longer video storage, but the free option does everything I need it to.
- There is a push to talk feature where you can speak with people that are being filmed. So these cameras can take the place of any video doorbell system that you may have considered.
Cons:
- The trade off to having the wireless cameras that are easy to mount and adjust is that they are also easy to steal. Someone could do a snatch and run if they know where they are and can stay out of camera view. It's best to mount them out of easy reach or to find a way to secure them if you are worried about this.

Design
The Arlo camera system saves you the headache of needing to run wires through your home in order to install a security camera system. These cameras are completely wireless thanks to a built-in battery.
The unit consists of the cameras and a base station that plugs into your router. The base station can store the recordings locally by plugging an external USB storage device into it. Unfortunately, the base station doesn't have any built-in storage of its own, but you do get 7 days of motion recordings to the cloud for free. The base station also has a loud 100 decibel siren, that you can control with the app when you see something suspicious going on or you can have it automatically go off based on motion or sound detection.
Features
The main allure of the Arlo system is that the cameras are completely wireless and can even be mounted outside without a power cable. Depending on how often motion passes in front of them, they can last 1 to 3 months on a single charge.
However, when plugged into power, the Pro 2 cameras offer some additional functionality. For example, when plugged into power, the recording will automatically include 3 seconds prior to the actual motion event. And you can also specify motion detection zones in the image when plugged into power
If you're familiar with the previous generations of the Arlo cameras, you're probably wondering what's new in Pro 2 version. Well, this is just a minor update: the new model supports 1080p video capture (instead of 720p). Also, the motion zones feature is new for the Pro 2. That's about it.
The Arlo Pro 2 cameras play nice with other services, such as SmartThings, Alexa and IFTTT. The app also allows you to schedule times when you want to be alerted and then automatically disable the alerts when you come home by using the location services on your phone.
If you want to save some money, the system also works with refurbished 1st generation cameras that you can pick up on Amazon for $100 or less.
Picture Quality
As noted earlier, the picture quality of the Pro 2 cameras is increased to 1080p. See the attached picture samples. The picture quality looks really good, but I've noticed that night vision is not quite as good as the 1st version of the Pro cameras. However, you can still see if someone comes close to the camera at night.
Value
With the free cloud plan, you get 7 days of motion recordings and support up to 5 cameras.
The next step up is one hundred dollars a year for 30 days of motion recordings and support for up to 10 cameras.
And last, you can pay one hundred fifty dollars a year for 60 days of motion recordings and up to 15 cameras.
Pricing seems better than the Logitech Circle 2 camera I reviewed earlier this year, plus the ability to have local storage with the Arlo is definitely a plus. The 5 camera limit on the free plan can be problematic if you have a large home you want to cover. Given the high price of the individual cameras, one would assume you could add as many as you want.
Summary
Overall, the Arlo Pro 2 gives you 1080p recordings and hassle-free wireless camera placement. The option for local storage is much appreciated in a day when everything has become very "cloud-dependent". Daytime picture quality is excellent, while night vision could use some tweaks to match the previous generation. For that reason, if you already have the Pro 1 cameras, you probably will not want to upgrade to the Pro 2.

As far as I can tell, the Arlo cameras are the best wireless security cameras bar none. They work inside and outside. Set up is easy and the included mounts are magnetic which makes it easy to positions cameras as you want.
The batteries for the cameras come precharged and when the batteries do wear down, you can charge them with the included micro usb cable.
The cameras truly are the highlight and the picture during nighttime usage is great. You can set up motion tracking zones, however to use that feature, your cameras need to be plugged into a power outlet. But even without the preset zones, the motion tracking does a great job picking up movement.
The system isn’t quite as “wireless” as I would like. The base station requires an internet connection. There is no WiFi built into the base station. So that means you have to either plug the Arlo base directly into your router with the included Ethernet cable, or you have to buy a WiFi extender separately to link the Arlo base to your router.
There are two USB ports on the back of the base station. You can add a USB stick for local backup, but the station has to back up to the cloud. The usb storage isn’t a substitute for online recording and can’t be used in lieu of the online storage. You have to have an internet connection for the Arlo system to work.
There are three online storage options. The free option has recording for “seven days of memories”, 1gb of storage, and 3 months of support. The paid plans expand the length and size of storage and provide unlimited support.
Each camera and the base station required a firmware update upon activation, but the software was very easy to set up and the app support on the iPhone and appletv was great and easy to use.
I think the Arlo system is the best wireless security system currently available. I could add three more cameras, the range has been great, and the entire thing has been very easy to setup and use. I wish the base had WiFi built in and allowed for local recording without internet, but I can easily recommend Arlo for the quality of the cameras alone.

The Arlo Pro 2 by NetGear: ( with 2 Wire-Free HD Security Cameras ) is a cool and simple security camera setup that you can be monitored via your mobile device. It works on IOS and Android as of this review.
The specs read out like : 1080p HD , the cameras can be wireless or plugged in. They can be used outside or inside your home or office building. There are rechargeable batteries in the cameras, but only for inside use. Plug them into an outlet if you want to use them outside. The cameras are motion sensitive and there is also 2-way audio to talk to your subject on the other end of the view finder. There's a neat little alarm dubbed Smart Siren, that will scream at a 100+ decibels ( It's loud. Believe me. And quite annoying. Exactly what you want.) There's night vision and it's weather resistant. Optional 24 hr 7 day CVR {requires a payment plan} and it's all cloud based storage. It also can be integrated into Amazon Alexa allowing you to view your footage on Amazon Fire TV or Echo TV. Alright, now that's said, we can get to what I think. The Arlo 2 is the perfect starter kit to get your video surveillance up and running to feel and to be overall safer in your space. I like that it's simple to hook up and get going. It took me all of 20 minutes to set mine, mainly because i kept moving the cameras around. ( It's so easy.) The motion sensitive cameras pick up on just about anything that moves. This can be a little annoying as the notifications just keep coming. I recommend setting a schedule for when you are away. If there is movement, you'll want to know then, right?
The batteries come charged, so I just got started immediately. I love it, to be honest. I can even add many more camera to the system in the future when I'm ready.
The only problem I have with it is that the outside cameras need a longer cord if you want to hang the camera high. I want it high to capture as much as possible, but that's just me. If you're gonna use it outside, it's preferred that you take out the battery, I'm gonna assume that's because the battery won't do well in the outside climate and will need charging at some point. Again, the notifications got to me the 1st night, as I didn't have the motion sensor turned off while I was home. I fixed that and we're good now. I really can't see any reason to not recommend this setup to anyone. I would've given it a 5 star rating had it come with a longer set of cords for outside use. But all in all, this camera is great for offices and any indoor surveillance purposes.
Do I recommend this, if you've been counting the bullet points , you already know the answer. Yes. Go get one. Get a couple , if the need is warranted.
Thank you Netgear.

Really good camera system. The setup was a breeze. Had to plug the receiving station to my router, wait a bit and then sync each camera. There was a firmware update for the station and for each camera that went by fast. After that, downloaded the arlo app, signed in and setup my system. They have 3 plans, one free with 7 days cloud recording and two other paid ones with more days. I went for the free one as it was enough. You can also plug a flash drive to the station to have local recording if you wish. They also have a constant recording plan, however they are very expensive (the first 3 ones are based on motion rules when the cam detects something).
The mounting system was very sturdy, it comes with two magnetic bases that seem strong enough (I may go for the security one they sell at a later time). I mounted one cam on my porch over looking my parking lot. The other one is at my living room. I tested the siren and its super loud, to the point of hurting, good thing if you have someone unwanted in your home, for sure they either run, or destroy your base in a rage fit. Recording quality was great, even in the "optimized" setting. The night vision was also very clear! I will highly recommend this recording system to anyone!

This Arlo Pro security cameras it’s the best security camera that I’ve ever try. The camera system was easy to set up with the Arlo App , just conect the base to your WiFi router ,plug the base and download the app for settings and connect up to 5 cameras ( this unit include 2 cameras). I install one camera on the front of my house and the image and connection are amazing, even in the dark. The alarm security system is very loud but effective to have peace of mind when you’re not at home. This unit comes with a basic monitoring to record up to 7days but if you want 24/7 monitoring, you will have to pay for update your plan. One of my favorite feature is the arm/ disarm base on location , the motion detection can disarm or arm automatically when you are home or away from home. This cameras are weather proof so you can install outside your house and if you optimize the settings your battery last for a while without having to take it down to charge, or you can also buy the solar charger, sold separately for about $40. There’s a two way Audio so you can talk back and forth with whomever is by the camera, also works well with Amazon Alexa. This small system is all I needed to monitor my house when away from home.

These cameras far exceeded my expectations. They function well! Do not let the battery powered wireless features scare you away. I have amazing range from this camera for it to be in a shed behind my house in my back yard. That is a huge distance! But the camera functions flawlessly. I can't give accurate review on the battery life as I have not had the cameras for that long. I will say it seems to be holding up well though! The cameras can be left plugged in which allows it to use motion zones. Installation was a breezes. The magnetic wall mounts only use one screw which comes in the box. The batteries came fully charged. Night vision looks good and the microphone and speaker on the camera are decent for the size this camera is. I like that you can expand the amount of cameras as you go and add them to your system at a later date. The base station has a siren that is pretty loud and can be set to trigger when motion is detected or manually through the phone app. I also like the USB ports on the back which can be used for local storage, although I have not tried it yet. I highly recommend Arlo for your camera needs, they are AWESOME!

Exceptional Video Quality, Some System Limitations

As the title suggests, the video quality these cameras produce is second to none. I own a few other home security cameras, a couple of them being 1080p, and they don't compare to the output of the Arlo Pro 2. The streaming image to your phone or computer is exceptionally sharp and clear. This also holds true for night streaming and recording. Compared to my other cameras, the night vision on this camera far exceeds the competition.
There are trade-offs though. Some of my other cameras have a wider viewing angle. The Arlo Pro 2 has a 130 degree viewing angle, while my other cameras have a 180 degree viewing angle. A wider viewing angle allows you to see more side-to-side activity. This is useful for covering a larger view of my home (see picture). Another disadvantage with this camera system is the inability to save your recordings to an off-site location, such as an ftp server or cloud device. Other cameras provide this feature, but on the flip-side, my other camera’s cloud based recording service isn’t as generous as the Arlo Pro 2’s offering. The Arlo Pro 2 does provide 1 week of recordings with its free subscription plan. This is an upgrade compared to other services that only offer up to a few days of storage. However, if you want to hang-on to your recordings for a longer period of time, you'll have to purchase a higher subscription. That’s the benefit to having another secure off-site recording option. Still, the Arlo system does allow you to connect an external USB drive to the base, which provides additional options for managing your recorded videos. This feature is also useful for the 24/7 continues recording this camera offers. But, if you want to record an area with continues nonstop surveillance, you’ll need to plug the camera into a power source. This may prove difficult if you were planning on placing these cameras in inconspicuous places inside or outside. The continues recording feature will not work on batteries alone. You’ll either need to run additional compatible micro-USB cables to the Arlo power adapter, or you can purchase their solar power device for a cost.
Overall, the Arlo Pro 2 system is an excellent product if you’re just looking for a camera that works reliably. It may not have as many technical or expert features you’ll find in other IP cameras, but the convenience of having a system that just works may be the deciding factor for many buyers. Also, not needing to run power cables to the cameras may also be a big reason for purchasing this system. Arlo claims the camera can run on its rechargeable batteries for about 3 to 6 months. This is based on about 5 minutes or recording time per day. Depending on where you place your camera and the activity/movement it can pickup in it’s 23 foot range, your recording time will vary, leading to varying battery life times. So, if convenience of wireless placement is more important, and you don’t mind charging the device once every 3 to 6 months, than I would definitely recommend this system.

Rolling out this review only days after receiving my Arlo Pro 2, it is such a Brilliant System I had to post my first impressions!
What first impressed me was the absolute simplicity in setting up the system and getting it on-line and running.
Arlo arrived on Thursday afternoon just after a couple of men had driven down my very long driveway, which is highly unusual for us as we are far from the road and the house is not visible to traffic. Noticed them looking into my garage and my equipment. Issue, we were leaving the next day for the weekend.
Decided to get Arlo on-line before we left. Astonishingly within less than hour I had setup the system, mounting cameras in my home as well as in our detached garage. App was in my phone, Arlo was running, and I had a good grip on the system operation. One thing I loved was I first added the Arlo base to my main network, but then switched the connection to my Mesh network on a different sub-net. Cannot recall the last time any network device was so easy in changing networks. No issues, smooth sailing.
After so many new devices coming to market that can only be accessed and managed by mobile apps only, it is refreshing to see a company do their job and include computer internet access. Kudos for going the distance in programming. Managing the system and monitoring by either mobile, tablet or computer is excellent.
Arlo is amazingly flexible and meets many, many needs and requirements. Home, business, child, etc. monitoring and security are what Arlo is all about, it delivers.
Will not go deep into all the spec’s or into the Wide Range of Capabilities of this Brilliant System, it is the best I have seen, it is the most well thought-out and implemented system. NetGear put quality into Arlo and it shows.
Customarily I do not get enthusiastic over tech equipment (IT guy for decades), but Arlo rings the bell. If you want a solid system for your security take a good close look at Arlo.
Would like to mention the audio, for it was fun when my friend came over to feed the fish. Got an alert that there was motion in my home so popped up the camera and saw my friend. They were Very Alarmed when I spoke to them through the camera. “This is the police, stand still!”
On a closing note, it was “Peace of Mind” the first morning when I turned on my computer, called up Arlo and saw all my stuff was where it belongs. Thanks Arlo.
