The card itself is pretty good, if a bit overpriced for its power. The big problem is that ASUS software support is absolutely horrible. To control your products (GPU/MOBO/AIO) you need to install a program called Armory Crate. Armory Crate might as well be malware. Installing it outright breaks iCue software from Corsair, causing any corsair lighting to freeze, sometimes until you force a firmware update on components. Armory Crate also just... breaks. Sometimes it breaks on install, other times it breaks on trying to update, other times it breaks when attempting to manage a device.

    POWERHOUSE but efficient

The card is very good. It is a powerhouse that is more efficient than the previous generation cards with much more bang! 320Watt usage for this 4080 card vs 350+ for the 3080 and 3090. Pros: -Amazing power -True 4k gaming capability -Efficient -Stays cool without modification -3 display ports and 2 HDMI -8k resolution compatible Cons -Price -Size -limited RGB (if you like that kind of thing) I have had this card for a few months now and it has been a very reliable, stable and powerful workhorse. I use it to game at 4k and stream/record. I have not had any issues with stability as long as I stay up on the drivers. The temperatures are very good even while being air cooled. I have maxed at 63C under load. I run with a dual monitor setup and having them both on display ports is important to me. The price and availability is what it is. It's a premium card and a luxury. The size will still fit a mid tower as long as it doesn't have front HDD bays. The limited RGB could be a con to some, not to me.

So I bought a new 16-core computer in 2022, using a renowned brand 1000-watt power supply unit (PSU) and a new video card circa 2021 from a competing GPU maker, which had 12GB of RAM and 192-bit bus and so on. Since my motherboard is also from Asus, and how the mobo has some brand-centric features, it made sense to keep the same brand for the GPU and other peripherals. For basic speed and power, those don't differ between brands. More granular control and frills like LED control are directly tied-in, however. But even then, Asus has generally been renowned for build quality and that still seems to be on display here. No pun intended. The reason why I looked at the 4080 needs a little more background: I started using a video editing/rendering tool and, for hour long clips, each render needed 10 hours and 15 minutes to complete. On their software vendor's forum, people just said "Don't bother with settings, get the nVidia card instead." and pointed me to their user benchmarks page. After looking through the video render website's user benchmarks page, the 4080 seemed the best mix of performance and price. Installation was a breeze, and I made sure all the power connectors fit tight - the manual stresses this, though - if anything - read it twice, if not thrice, to be sure. This is an expensive piece of kit. If your PC is a tower form factor, make use of the magnetic-ended aluminium pencil-thick brace as well. It doubles as a screwdriver so you don't need to go fetch one prior to installation, but do not forget to twist it back into shape as the brace and place the magnetic end on the PSU and the other perpendicular against the GPU card. This will prevent sagging and/or breaking of the card. These heat sinks attached are impressively monstrous. I've ran the unit for about three weeks now. Render time, using the same settings, was cut down to 2 hours 30 minutes. GPU stayed under 65C, much to my surprise. The difference in wattage use between the 4080 and the predecessor is about 40 watts. So much more computational ability for slightly higher power demand. Best of all: The GPU driver includes software to change its processor and RAM speed. I don't overclock, but I do like to underclock when possible as it keeps temperatures and overall stress on the components down. When testing reduction of memory and GPU speed, render time went down by a couple of minutes but I stayed under 60C. This will help improve overall lifespan of the card's components. To turn down GPU and RAM Mhz to the minimal option, and net render time only slowed by a couple of minutes? Why give the GPU more power than is needed, when the software isn't needing it to any significant measure and even if the savings is 20 watts, multiply that by the number of hours needed to finish a few weeks' worth of processed video? This will pay for itself fast enough, depending on what you need it for. This 4080 simply rocks. I know some apps and games are optimized for one brand over another, but even independent GPU benchmark websites that aren't specific to any single game or utility program show how the 4080 is the #2 card out there, whereas the card I took out was #36. Amazing what a year can bring. So, that's my story. Your needs will differ, but it's pretty awesome that one can underclock this and not lose out on performance. At least from the utilities I use. For gaming - I dunno. Gaming is a different paradigm altogether that also requires real-time random variables introduced by the human player.

Robust GPU for the price point

So you're considering upgrading your GPU. There's plenty of options around, but gosh darn, those prices are steep! Is a modern GPU really worth the expense? Well, it depends... If you're the average computer user and like to watch movies or do some social media posting, with occasional email and web browsing, then no. This GPU is severely overkill. It would be overpriced and you would never utilize the immense list of features and capabilities it offers. Could be more beneficial investing in an Intel GPU if you really want to upgrade your setup and stay ahead of the obsolescence avalanche. If you're a gamer, however - or perhaps a video editor, or 3D CGI creator, or Videographer content creator, then this GPU, the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX4080 16GB might be a good fit for you. Yes, it's expensive, but it's a powerful and vastly capable card. As someone who does photo/video/audio restoration and conversion, this GPU runs major circles around my previous GPU (and RTX2060). I can render photo enhancements almost instantly, and render videos in a fraction of the time (especially using nVidia's increasingly popular AV1 codec - exclusive to the 4000 series RTX GPUs). And gaming? Fuggedaboudit...... I can max out every setting in Cyberpunk 2077 @ 4K resolution and this thing eats it up like candy - even in the most graphically demanding areas of the game - and still gets at least 90-100+fps. Same with every other game I've thrown at it so far (not a small list of RTX games, either). Game after game after game, and this GPU never balks. It just powers through each one with flying colors. So why not get the RTX4070? None of the 4070 models really push the limits like the 4080. Are they not worth it? By no means - the 4070 cards are also capable GPUs in their own right. They just don't do quite enough, in my opinion, to justify the cost. What about the RTX4090? Quite simply because they don't produce enough power over the 4080 to justify their cost, either. And they suck significantly more power than the 4080 - without significant differences in capabilities. Simply put, the RTX 4080 - specifically the ASUS TUF Gaming 16GB GPU hits ALL the sweet spots for me. It's just the finest GPU I've ever had the pleasure of owning and using. And if you're a content creator like me, your revenue should easily justify the cost of this beast GPU, considering the amount of time you'll same rendering material. Do I recommend this GPU? 100%. Buy one before they're all gone - and the prices spike again. (Also, I do not work for nor am I sponsored by any company. This is my own personal, honest opinion on this product, as a small business owner and content creator.) Hope the info helps! Happy shopping!

New 4080 graphics card is functioning great! The radiator keeps it adequately cooled and the performance is truly greater than that of the previous NVIDIA GPU generation. My only complaint is that this thing is MASSIVE and was difficult to install in a full ATX computer case. Would recommend, but definitely check your case for if it has enough space to hold this bad boy.

Blazingly fast! I bought this right before the 4080 super was released and it hasn't given me the change to even be a little upset. This was purchased for a new build and shreds whatever game you throw at it. Originally used with a 4k setup (LG C2 42" 120hz), it would normally put out ~120 fps with any new and optimized game at ultra settings. I recently switched to an LG OLED 39" 240hz at 1440p and I'm now seeing the most buttery, silky movement and this card hardly breaks a sweat. No hiccups, faults or problems after thousands of hours of gaming. ASUS cards rule!

This is a fantastic video card. It has a solid frame and a modest over clock and will push most games on high/ultra settings in 1440p and 4k. Pros: RTX 4080 is more than enough for most games. This model has 2 HDMI ports, most cards have 1. A GPU support device is included. It is very power efficient, it uses less power then 3080 12GB. Cons: Price for performance is poor when compared to AMD 7900xtx. This card is very big, it may not fit into many cases. Other brands make smaller versions of the RTX 4080/4090. It is not a 4090. It is a good card and performs well. There have been no issues with over heating or 12 pin power cable issues. I gave this unit 4/5 stars with 1 star deducted for price.

Great graphics card. Has no issues running modern games and definitely outperforms the 3060Ti I replaced with this. It’s a bit power hungry and the 850W PSU I have will run it fine, as long as I don’t use any of the Overclock features. Very pricey, but that’s the GPU market these days.

GREAT PERFORMANCE: I have mixed feelings about this. I had a 6900 XT, but felt like RT performance was holding it back. This thing rocks especially in RT performance and provides a decent bump in raster., performance as well. A good bump in all games from what I can tell. Problem is the price and this low grade coil whine . And come on Asus, why the tiny mounting bracket? why didn't they make it bigger to help with sag, but I'm no engineer, and luckily my MoBo doesn't sag this card so it's a moot point for me. It does come with a magnetic prop, but I didn't need it. COIL WHINE: I like the card, but the coil whine is annoying. It's about as loud as a mechanical hard drive and only comes on from time to time. I moved my computer to the hardwood floor next to my standing desk rather than on my desk as I had it previously and I couldn't hear it. Coil whine wasn't there anymore. Plus now I have a ton of desk space, so win win. But when it was next to me, it kind of made me (still kind of does) want to return it and try a different brand. Or go 7900 XTX or just wait another generation. I don't know.... I have time to decide. This is the first time I have a conflict in my head about a new graphics card right when I got it. Usually I'm super gitty, excited, and want to brag about it to everyone. This time, I'm kind of buyers remorse, but happy at the same time, but not, but am so to speak.

      DearLinsHawk,

We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing coil whine on your Graphics Card. It's unfortunate that this model does not meet your expectations, this is absolutely not the experience we want you to have. All the electronic with DC-DC power conversion, will have some sort of “coil whine”, difference being the frequency range it falls in, some coil whine might be audible and some might not be, as well as some people might be very sensitive to the noise and some might not be. As long as the product functions correctly and without fault, any amount of coil whine is deemed acceptable and normal.

Here are few way users can reduce coil whine:

      1. Get a soundproof case
      2. Limit the frame rate of your games
      3. Lower the graphical quality of your games
      4. Underclock your GPU

I purchased a 4080 instead of a 4090 for 3 reasons. 1. Stock was an issue. I wanted the TUF 4090. 2. I couldn't justify a 50% bump in price for 30% more performance. 3. I was about to buy a 1000W platinum power supply from that 50% bump in price and still came out cheaper than the 4090. That being said, I do not regret the purchase. The card easily monsters through any 1440p gaming, hitting almost 250FPS in Dying Light 2 and 150FPS in Cyberpunk with ray-tracing on and Frame Generation on. If you game at 1440p, it's pointless to get something as much as the 4090 because you'll just be driving more frames than the average monitor can refresh at unless you spend much more in a 240hz monitor.
