Customers are saying

Customers regard the ROG Strix 18" QHD 240Hz Gaming Laptop as a high-performance machine, particularly praising its powerful processing capabilities, stunning visuals, and smooth refresh rate. The large screen size is also a major plus for many, though some users note the significant weight and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. Positive feedback frequently highlights the impressive frame rates achieved in various games. However, the substantial size and weight may be a consideration for those who frequently transport their laptop.

I've been on a Mac for 18 plus years so it was a shock switching to a PC. I wanted to make sure whatever I got would be powerful like my Mac but I needed it to be more for gaming than designing. I went back and forth on what brand to go with and in the end, my choices ended up being the Lenovo Legion, the Alienware, and this ASUS. Price is a factor but this time around I decided that I would go all out and get a specked-out machine as I wanted to make sure it would last for a long time. ASUS had the best laptop for what I was wanting. I knew the i9 14gen and the 4080 was a must. I would have rather had the 4090 but this laptop had the best bang with the 32gb ram and 2TB hard drive. The only way to get the 4090 in an ASUS was switching to the Scar and the spec difference in the two didn't justify the price for me. This 240hz screen is super bright and has a Beautiful color array all my games so far just looks stunning. I don't know what they're doing with their display or the software but they got it right. The laptop starts up extremely fast powers up when it needs to be. The battery is not the best. I'm used to extremely long battery life with my Mac. The battery life on this is actually pretty sad but it's a gaming laptop so it's expected it has a good amount of ports but I think I would've preferred a few more thunderbolt or USB-C ports as that's where everything is going the one flaw that I have with this laptop is its design. The hinges seem strong, but they're ugly. The body isn't bad but it's not sleek when you look at Apple laptops or razors laptops you can see what I'm talking about with a design even the Lenovo legion has a sleek design. Everybody's different and I'm sure people will find the design of the laptop to be stunning, but for me, it just sticks out like a sore thumb, but on the other hand, the performance justifies this weird look to me if you're looking for a powerhouse laptop that can play anything you throw at it and probably will be able to for quite some time at an affordable price. This one right here is by far amazing.

I bought it back in Jul 24, 2024 Not going to lie its prolly the best gaming laptop I have ever put my hands on. -Call of duty 200+fps -Fortnite (ultra 120+fps /low-mid 200+fps) -Star Citizen FPS varies 30-70 depending on location -Gray Zone Warfare 80-140 fps depending on location and foliage -Marvel Rivals 180-200 fps I did my research prior to purchasing the laptop with my previous Gaming devices being a Allienware 2070 super (Desktop) & console (ps5/series X) & the G18 does not disapoint! Extra note: Battery is good for eco mode with GPU off and in silent mode (5 hours of web and video NOT GAMING) -other than than when gaming i always have it plugged in and in performance mode or Turbo (fans speed up)

You get what you pay for. I added an additional M.2 4TB SSD to the laptop and removing the bottom panel was pretty easy. If you're wondering if you can add a M.2 SSD with a pre-install heatsink, I would definitely measure beforehand since the clearance is somewhat iffy. I used a custom made heatsink with a thermal pad and copper plate that had a low peofile, no bigger than the SSD itself. Performance wise, the laptop does what it is suppose to do. It performs well with triple A titles depending on how much you're willing to exert the settings of the game and laptop. However, make sure you invest in a laptop fan cooling pad/pad. It still surprise me that current generation laptop do not have pop-out legs/stands so the bottom fans isn't congested. The fan noise is tolerable but can get extremely loud (kind of expected from a laptop). If you usually play with earphones then you can disregard this information. Get this laptop if you're planning to replace your desktop for mobility purposes. The specs is nothing crazy and remember that the 4080M is not similar to the desktop 4080 variant. The CPU is onpar to how it should perform. The screen is cool but it is nothing to boast about, especially for it's price. Again, get a laptop cooling pad/cooler because it gets hot pretty fast, especially for longevity purposes unless money isn't a problem for you. Expect to be on the charger majority of the time if you want to play games on the highest performance. I'll give this laptop approximately five years of revelancy before it becomes obsolete with more spec demanding games. Overall, it's a decent laptop that performs well for what I need it for.

This laptop is a beast! Only issue I've had is the lighting of the keyboard can be a little glitchy and you have to mess around with the settings to get it to work right again. The monitor is crazy good, on par or maybe even better than my QLED TV. I use it plugged in so I can't attest to the battery life, I'm assuming it's pretty terrible as gaming laptops usually are.

BEAST of a PC. Powerful, quick and relaible. Battery life not perfect but what can you expect from a 4080? Got this laptop for Architecture school and I couldn't be more pleased. Handles Lumion, CAD, Sketchup, Revit and others with EASE. The RGB keyboard could be a bit brighter and the speakers could be louder as well. Also, 2 USB A ports is a bummer. Overall, the ROG Strix G18 a massive BANG for your buck.

I’ve been using the ASUS ROG Strix 18 for a while now, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The 14th Gen Intel Core i9 combined with the RTX 4080 delivers absolutely amazing performance — games run flawlessly at ultra settings, and multitasking is effortless. The 18” QHD 240Hz display is stunningly sharp and smooth, making everything look incredibly vivid. The build quality feels premium, and even under heavy load, the cooling system keeps temperatures in check without getting too loud. The 32GB of RAM and 2TB SSD provide plenty of power and storage for both gaming and productivity. Overall, this laptop is worth every dollar. If you’re looking for a powerful, future-proof gaming machine, this one is a beast!

This laptop honestly handles pretty much everything ive thrown at it. I wanted something asus partially for sentimental reasons, dumb I know. But my father had this ASUS gaming laptop he got back in 2013, massive machine, that still runs to this day. Maybe not for games from today, but it still runs well. When he got his I knew one day I’d want my own, so it has been kind of a dream of mine since I was a child. But anyway, I first got the ASUS Zephyrus g16 I believe, but the 2023 version. It ran so hot, but thats to be expected with such a thin laptop with even a 4060 in it. I then moved onto the Alienware M16 r2 which I kind of hated. I loved it and hated it. I didnt like the software. It wasnt a bad laptop by any means, I just didn’t like it. That one had a 4070 in it and one of the intel ultra chips so it ran a lot cooler. But it still didn’t have the power I was hoping for. So I finally decided to just spend the money on the one I wanted all along, and there are no regrets. Ive had this laptop since around May or June and its been my daily driver for everything but work, mostly just because the screen is so nice I like to have movies or something on in the background while I work. I use this for gaming as well, and I have had everything set on the highest settings with no issues. I dont play FPS games, but I have zero doubts anyone who does will have any issues either. The only issues I reallt run into are with the RGB and the ASUS armoury crate and aura creator clashing with windows. Sometimes a windows update will leave the RGB useless for a while unless you uninstall the update and wait a while to update things. Or sometimes there may be issues when updating armoury crate and aura creator, so a vice versa kind of thing. But it happens often enough where the RGB isnt on. This is kind of a bigger deal for me personally because I customize the lighting of the keyboard in a way to match the controls for the games I play and have various different ones set up I switch between. Even some that will show me by color roughly how hot the cpu/gpu is or how used those components are. Besides thet issue, its amazing. That really is just a software issue over a hardware issues though. The fans are loud, but I personally don’t mine that like others do. And it pushes out A LOT of hot air, but that is to be expected given the machine itself. The only other thing I would recommend is getting a keyboard cover. There are some issues that come with using one, but if you have pets I highly recommend this. There is a fan that pulls hot air through the keyboard to keep things cool and it does a wonderful job. That being said however, as I am sure you can imagine, it pulls in dust, hair, etc in the process and it is hard to get out of the keyboard. Best advice is to keep it clean from the get go. I tend to remove the keyboard cover when gaming on high settings. But anyway this is an amazing device, and if you can get it discounted its even more well worth it if you like asus products and asus software.

AFTER Liquid metal repaste, this thing is OVERPOWERED! IT IS KILLER! I run Fortnite at 550fps, unreal engine, 3d modeling software and 500 chrome tabs at once. This thing does not slow down! Comes in a beautiful box. All USBC ports linked to the GSYNC GPU. I have (2) 4tb Samsung pro NVMe m.2 drives total 8,TB of memory. I upgraded to 64gb ddr5 5600 Ram from original 32gb. I undervolted a little in the bios. Keeps the temps at 80° C under full load on the CPU. GPU temps around 50°C under full load. This thing is crazy. I love love love it! I have had it one month. I have a 100tb server and this wifi card is SO FAST. I TRANSFER so many backups all the time and 3d models and videos and it flys. Armory crate actually works wonderful on this! Unlike my previous model Asus tuf f17. I can't explain how fast this thing is. First thing I did was uninstall ONEDRIVE. TRUST ME. ITS MICROSOFTS VIRUS. It will login and upload storage to cloud and say memory full, if that happens it forces you to remove everything from your computer. Then you have to download from the cloud and hope everything synced to it. Asus is so amazing tho! They replaced my last laptop when it wasn't under warranty!!! They just replaced it. They Paid shipping and everything. Don't update to windows 24h2! The power plans will screw up and force "efficiency" power plans, what do power plans do? Voltage = heat. 24h2 Efficiency mode in new windows update WILL overheat any CPU in all computers and override your temp settings. Stay with 23h2 windows 11 update and don't update. The keyboard is amazing sturdy and lights are better than any previous models. The led light on the front is nice. The screen! Omg it's so bright, it is so colorful. It is like super high definition and my games don't have blur! It's like crystal clear. I LOVE THIS LAPTOP I've been on it fine tuning my program transfers for a month and I'm so thankful for the quality put into the entire computer.

This is my first gaming laptop. Received this open box because it was a fairly good deal considering the hardware. I immediately installed a '96 GB crucial ddr5 RAM kit 5600, as well as heatsinks on both sides of the RAM sticks and heatsink enclosures on both SADs ( had a Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB in it when I received the unit). Everything has worked great so far, I primarily use it for school, running multiple different simulation and programming softwares for electrical engineering and robotics coursework, but I have also ran a few games off Xbox game pass and cloud gaming just to see how it performs and haven't seen any issues off the bat. Overall from the reviews and research I've been seeing it seems like the best deal on the market right now since anything on the market with my current specs is over $3,000.

I have to say that the image quality of this laptop looks insane and it is not even the mini-LED version. This is a great laptop for the money. Excellent performance, great quality and it doesn’t cost 3,000 dollars. If you are looking for a gaming laptop that has good performance and visuals without spending a crazy amount of money then I recommend this one. Obviously, this laptops is even better if you use it while is plugged in so it doesn’t drain the battery quickly and be limited by power. If you want all the juice then use it while plugged in. You can use it unplugged but I recommend you plugged it in if you are going to run any heavy tasks or games.

I love the machine for what I am using it for. School work, and the occasional few hours of gaming. I would let anyone who is wondering know ahead of time, it's massive. It's bigger than your lap. Unless you have a big lap. In terms of portability it's should receive 0 stars BUT if you are buying this machine for portability you already messed up. You are buying this beast because you want the type of power that starts wars. Tom cruise would run on a runaway being chased by helicopters carrying bmw's firing tomahawk missiles for this type of power. Also the lights are cool. It's not as noisy as I expected. Charge brick is kinda cumbersome.

I’ve been wanting to try out one of the bigger 18” screened laptops and happen to get the chance to try out the new Ausu ROG Stix G18. Unboxing and First Impression; The laptop came in a heavily logoed box, which true to gaming fashion, was made to sit on one of the short ends and had the carry handle on the short side, sort of making it look like an ammo crate “or gas can”. The end flips down so you can slide the inner tray out holding the laptop and included power supply, power cord, and some literature, that’s it. The laptop itself is large, no kidding, it’s big, larger than our Alienware X17 by a good bit, but it actually weighs a good bit less. The outer casing is a nice matte finish with a thin “Republic of Gamers” strip and ROG logo very subtly placed on the LCD lid. The bottom is very heavily textured with some ROG references and 5 heavy duty rubber feet and 1 hard plastic one in the middle toward the front edge. There are a lot of ventilations slots here too allowing a lot of airflow through the bottom. Around the edges there’s nothing but ventilation on the back, the front has a LED light strip, on the right side there are two USB A ports, and on the left there’s a power port, a RJ45 port, a full-sized HDMI port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, a USB C port and a headphone jack. The keyboard is a full sized keyboard typical of all the Asus laptops I’ve used lately, with the numeric pad and FN keys being scaled down. The keyboard itself is easy enough to type on and has a nice bit of travel with just the right amount of resistance. I can pretty much type on anything so I’m not hugely picky about how the keyboard feels but I can tell you the switches aren’t mechanical as compared to my desktops keyboard. The trackpad is huge as trackpads go, it’s very sensitive and is very easy to use although the button clicks may be a little stiff for my taste, I’ll be using a wireless gaming mouse anyway. Setting up: After unpacking everything and plugging in the power supply to let the device charge it was time to power up and get things set up. There’s the usual Windows first time setup then getting the Asus software setup we immediately had windows do a update check and yep there were a lot of updates so we let that run. We went into the update software in the Armory Crate software and there were additional updates to all the ASUS preinstalled software so we let it run. Finally after getting all the updates finished, it was time to get to testing this out. Using: Wow this G18 is a beast, I installed a few games to try out like Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, The Outer Worlds, and Borderlands 3, all of these are pretty taxing on any system. First was Cyberpunk 2077 with all the recent updates installed, the resolution was set on 2560X1600 with Ray Tracing on “Ultra”, DLSS to “Super” and the laptop performance mode set to “Turbo”, during testing and using the built-in benchmarking utility in CP we were getting 68fps average, not bad at all and fully playable, the image looked outstanding. We did try out changing the resolution down to 1080 but that only upped the framerate to 74 and the image wasn’t as clear so we set it back to 1600. Next was Borderlands 3, set to 2560X1600, all graphic settings set to “Ultra” and in the “Floodmoor Basin” we averaged 85-107 fps, and again the image just looked outstanding with no tearing during fast fight scenes. Next up was The Witcher 3, also set to 1600 resolution, with R/T set to “Ultra”, DLSS set to “Ultra”, and all graphics settings set to “Ultra”, almost all scenes and areas averaged 96-117fps, just outstanding and made the game look so good. Last game tested was “The Outer Worlds”, this one doesn’t have R/T but all the graphic options were set to “Ultra” and the resolution on 1600 we averaged 165fps, this is a game that would probably benefit from R/T as the scenery would look so much better “already looks great though”. So this G18 can definitely handle any game thrown at it and we’ll be playing plenty on it now. The “Nebula” display is just simply amazing, no it’s not OLED but it is so clear with very very wide viewing angles, it also doesn’t have “this one doesn’t” have any light bleed at all and a black background looks completely smooth. Blacks are nice and black, “not OLED black” but very close and the refresh rate is high enough you won’t see any flickering or tearing during gaming. The screen also gets very bright and we had no issue playing/using in a brightly lit room at all. The 16:10 aspect ratio we haven’t seen in a long time and it makes the screen taller “squarer” which leaves plenty of room so you aren’t scrolling nearly as much as the usual 16:9, although if you are watching a movie, you’ll have larger bands at the top and bottom of the image but this is a 18” screen and there’s plenty of room and image size anyway. We also benchmarked this comparing it to other systems and the new i9 14900HX CPU simply blew everything away, this is one fast processor that has 24 cores, giving a total of 32 threads, simply amazing that there are so many cores. Geekbench 5 had the CPU registering 1970 for the single core and 19871 for multicore, this beats everything we have and have tested lately. The GPU averaged 175555 in GB 5 also, it’s not as fast as our desktop system with a 4080OC but that one is overclocked and the G18 was not for testing but it’s close enough to hold it’s own, especially for a laptop. We also ran Cinebench 2024, the “Single Core” scores completely blew away everything in their list with a score of 120, with the “Multi Core” score coming in at 1181 giving it 4th place overall against some very high end non laptop CPUs, the C/B GPU score was 18578 besting everything shown in their comparisons in C/B also. We also benchmarked the SSD with Crystal Disk Mark and the WD Black drive is one fast drive easily testing in at over 5k MB/s read and just under 5k MB/s write. Noise and heat wise: While gaming I set our Extech professional DB meter directly in the middle of the keyboard, with the fans running very hard they only registered 58.3db, which for a laptop this is very quiet and we could easily hear our game on the built-in speakers “although we’d be gaming with headphones most of the time anyway”. Heat buildup was never an issue, and after an hour of gaming / benchmarking the hottest spot was just above the keyboard below the screen @ 119F, and the WASD keys averaged 85.3F, which is pretty cool as far as gaming laptops go, and we both noticed there’s a noticeable breeze being pulled through the keyboard helping to keep that keyboard cool and you can see it in the thermal image I attached, and can even see where my wrist was sitting on the keyboard warming up that spot. The underside definitely gets warm too at 118F and I wouldn’t want to be setting that on my lap anyway as you really need to keep those vents clear. The backside vent was the hottest hitting 133F, this shows a lot of heat is being exhausted out the back. Upgradeability; I did take the bottom off the laptop to see just what could be upgraded and to access for service and cleaning. After removing all the screws, “take the bottom right one out last as it is not completely removeable and is used to pop the bottom up away from the frame so you can get a spudger in there to release the rest of the clips. Once off everything is accessible, memory, SSD drives, wireless adapter, battery. The memory slots “2 of them” are populated but on this model 32gb should be enough for anyone. There’s also an empty M.2 slot for adding a second drive if you want more storage space. Other than that, you’ll be able to access the wireless adapter just in case that needs replacing and same for the battery, although you’ll have to remove the small middle fan just to get to the power connector for it. Conclusion; This is one beast of a gaming machine, it’s huge and fast handling everything we threw at it with ease. And if you are wanting a dedicated gaming laptop with a huge but beautiful screen this G18 should be put high on your shopping list. It’s not perfect but it’s really close. The things we wish Asus had included was some sort of Biometric login with either a fingerprint reader or Hello compatible camera, my Alienware has the IR camera and it’s something we’d miss. I added a small USB fingerprint reader and have it installed on the right side and it’s not in the way of the mouse. I also wish they would have added a SD card reader and this is one of the first laptops I’ve had that doesn’t have one, sort of an odd design choice. The very small FN keys are ok, but there’s plenty of room to make them full size so they are easier to see and the keypad is sort of cramped since it doesn’t use full sized keys either, should have made those full sized also. The only other issue we are having is getting the RGB per key lighting to work, as the Aura Creator software sees the laptop but states that it’s not currently supported and we are working with tech support trying to get this issue resolved “and should have worked out of the box anyway”, so if the per key lighting is important to you “it is to us” then you may want to check that this issue has been resolved. So we are deducting 1 star mainly for the lack of a SD card reader, any type of biometric security feature, and the smaller FN/Keypad keys, the RGB lighting should be able to be fixed and is totally aesthetic so not taking away because of that.

Excellent, the best value for your money, with a better price-value scale than the one with the 4090 graphics card, a 1000 bucks saving compared with the one with the 4090 graphics card

So far I've loved it. ASUS app can set the battery capacity to 80% max even when plugged in so that it preserves the longevity. Similar to my Tesla. I play World of Warcraft and then have Dkayed YouTube replays on the other monitors. It works wonderfully. I have the laptop screen and two 1440p monitors. Laptop size is somewhat larger size but nothing unreasonable. Wish it had more USB ports, but nothing a dongle can't solve. Overall I'd recommend it. I've had it for 3-4 months. I did buy a laptop fan, again to preserve the laptop's longevity to take care of it.
