I do not regret my purchase 1 bit!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my G15 Advantage on October 23, luckily upon being delivered I found out it was an M6 Model. I was very excited as I did see there were problems with other people's models (M1-M5, liquid metal seeping, graphical artifacts, random re-boots) and I didn't want to go through the hassle of having to return it or send it over to ASUS and have to wait another 1-2 weeks without a PC. (ASUS however has been on top of all those problems and I believe the M6 was the first of the revisions that fixed the major problems) ANYWAYS - I really enjoy this laptop, I use it mainly for producing music and playing games on the side. While it isn't the best out of the best on the market, you definitely get HUGE performance out of this compared to any 3060-3070 laptop, EASILY with the RX 6800M + Ryzen 9 5900HX. Yes, you will potentially need to upgrade the RAM to a better set (the ram that comes with the laptop is good, but you can get a 10%-30% performance increase) depending on the games or operations you run. You might also want to upgrade NVMe Storage if you prefer to have more than 512GB. Overall, I spent $1600 and DO NOT regret my purchase one bit. I'm coming from a full desktop, i9-10850K, 32GB 3600MHz, RX 6800 XT and I have 0 complaints. This is your best option for the price vs any Nvidia GPU laptop in the $1000-$2200 price range. I always figured I'd lose out on moving to a laptop but to be honest, everything I was able to do on my desktop I can do on a laptop, and be mobile which is a +1 in my book!

If you want a laptop under $2,000, pick this one
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing laptop! One of the best processors, graphics cards, and other on-board hardware you can get in a laptop. Laptop rarely overheats, an issue common in laptops, and the only setbacks are storage and RAM (only if you're heavily modding or running extremely high graphics). Probably the best laptop by price available.

Great laptop for the price and ease of upgrading
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even though there are a few Best Buy reviews claiming that the laptop arrived dead on arrival or died soon thereafter, I have had no issues whatsoever, even after upgrading and 9 days of use. Regarding upgrades, so far, the RAM runs at 2666 MHz speeds, not 3200 MHz. Hopefully, this will be dealt with by an Armory Crate or BIOS update. This, however, is not a bad thing as the laptop is still very fast. I did upgrade to 64 GB of 3200 MHz RAM. 32 GB is not the maximum. See the attached photo for proof. As you will see in the attached photos, the read/write performance of the SSD is dependent upon which mode you use (turbo mode is available only when plugged in). The SSD performance of the stock drive is ok, but I added a Samsung 970 Evo Pius (2TB) PCI-E Gen 3 drive fior additional storage. The new drive beats the stock drive easily, particularly with write speeds. In case the photos don’t present properly, the C: drive is the stock drive, while the D: drive is the Evo Plus drive. The Crystal Disk Mark 8 results are presented for each drive’s performance mode (battery power only) and turbo mode (plugged in). The graphics and display performances are very good. They will be even better once an external monitor is used to access the 6800M’s output directly. Overall, I am very pleased with this laptop.

Does it all, except for AI
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very happy with this purchase, it takes care of all the other devices I need. From playing games, to video editing I decided not to get a gaming console and just log onto STEAM to get my games. Run's great on Jedi: Survivor and GTA: V, as well as doing motion graphics on After Effects. For the price and power, its a good purchase.

Loving this laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite my 5-star review, it's not perfect. Build quality is pretty good. Thermals are decent (make sure to use manual mode to get the best performance out of your laptop). I have some backlight bleeding in the bottom left corner, it's not terrible but I get the feeling a lot of these G15s will have the same issue (2 units so far have had backlight bleeding in the same corner). The value of this laptop is pretty amazing. This combination of CPU and GPU is hard to beat at this price point and then when you throw in awesome battery life (I do appreciate when laptops are good at doing laptop things) and a good display, you have a winner.

Good value, good laptop, but not perfect.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first unit has a severe creaking noise when pick the laptop up, Best Buy exchanged the unit and price matched me to their latest price at the time of exchange. They refunded me 160 dollars to my card which brings this laptop to the price of 1499.99, which is a excellent value. The laptop is of excellent value already from it’s original price. The 150 discount is an excellent deal! The new unit has no said creaking issue whatsoever so it’s not a design flow. The problem is specific to my old unit. My original Geekbench 5 CPU score is 7600 multi-Core, after I changed to a set of 32 GB Ballistix, the multi-core score bumped up to 9100. I highly suggest change to a higher quality RAM if you want to fully squeeze the CPU performance. The display at 1080 is OK quality, nothing too exciting here, 2K IS a sweat spot. The MT7921 WiFi card is interchangeable and has no major issues. 6800M runs resident evil village at 1080P highest setting (Ray Tracing enabled) at average of 50 FPS using internal display, this result is after I changed the RAM. SSD came with it is a 991a which it’s performance is not impressive, it has 200 TBW rating which is not good. I changed it into a 970 Pro and put a Hynix P31 into the empty spot. After changed the SSD, it’s smooth as it can be! Good deal!!! All in all, AMD YES!

Timespy benchmarks and how to get best performance
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hey just made this for benchmarks I recorded. I got this open box for $1,401 and was completely unused with all original wrap on it. Some notes to get the best performance turn on max fan settings in "manual mode", connect a ONLY A USB-C to display port cable from the back of the laptop to monitor DIRECTLY, if you hook this up to a display link docking station you will see significantly lower speeds (8000 timespy vs 11000 total timespy), and a ram upgrade is needed as well to achieve max performance. Using USB-C is the only way to directly connect to the 6800m directly, using a HDMI cable to that port passes the 6800m through the integrated graphics and slows the speed. Timespy benchmarks - 1080P 1st pic - Fan turbo - No external display 2nd pic - Fan max manual - No external display 3rd pic - Fan turbo - External display (USB-C to Display port) 4th pic - Fana max manual - External display (USB-C to Display port)

Great bang for the buck!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition Laptop purchased from BestBuy as an "Open-Box purchase" functions as advertised in pristine condition given a few gripes on the which will be discussed. Order arrived without original packaging. Was missing the customizable/swappable plates, factory manual. Not that critical but would be nice to receive what was advertised as an Open-Box "Excellent" classification. I still would buy from Best Buy again, my purchasing experience was great. Given this Units price point was really hard to beat. Now to a performance review of the Unit: It's as advertised, a great representation of what a flagship "ALL-AMD" device should be at a really affordable price point! If not used for extensive gaming but for a school/office productivity purpose. You can expect great battery life in addition to social/multimedia entertainment. There are a few obvious issues for the enthusiast to point out. 1. Factory given RAM could be a gamble either you receive the slower 1RX16 or the expected 1RX8. Note: that this is an industry wide issue due to the reduced manufacturing causing a shortage of silicone chip production. 2. Missing "MUX Switch" Multiplexor Switch to display directly from the Radeon RX 6800M to the 300HZ Panel or other. To gain a performance boost. Can be circumvented if using the rear USB-C port to Display Port adapter connected to an external monitor. I wish we had an option to use the given display panel. It would definitely change the battery life.

ASUS Has Upped Their Game With the Strix G15
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ASUS has introduced a great all-AMD gaming laptop in the ROG Strix G15 Advantage 15.6", AMD Ryzen 9-5900HX. Contents of this package is the laptop itself, 2 extra color-corner pieces, minimal paperwork, and power cable/brick. The laptop comes with a 1-year warranty on parts & labor. DISCLAIMER: In case this review gets lumped into other configurations, I have the the 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 9-5900HX, Radion RX 6800M. Games played include Fortnite, Tomb Raider, and Steam's Grid 2. PROS: ----------- * Price is competitive for more expensive machines of other brands and processors at 15.6" display. * I won't get into the technical numbers, but performance-wise, extremely low latency, refresh rate is more than acceptable. (100FPS, 144Hz+ display, fast boot times) * An Ethernet port (RJ45) is included - huge plus. Plenty of USBs - 3 USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A + USB-C Gen2 with DP and PD. HDMI 2.0b output is great if you want to send to another monitor. Audio port also included. * Keyboard back-lighting can be changed a variety of ways, on, off, strobing, waving, same color, different colors, etc. * Battery life is decent as it's probably in the top 1/3 of many laptops I have used in the past. 90Wh will give you about 1.5 hours of high performance gaming before attempting to shut down. * The fans aren't quite as noisy as previous ROG models, and this version does have a FAN mode you can select from - being the quietest possible, to Turbo mode (Fans a-blazing). If you're using good speakers or headphones, the fan noise shouldn't be a problem. * When the unit gets going after a while, the keyboard doesn't get very warm - the warm air is ventilated out of the machine's back side efficiently to help with user keyboard comfort. * Dedicated volume buttons at the top, keyboard has good feedback and is not clackity. 4 gaming keys on the left side (ASDW) work great with the W having the nub on it so you can know you're on the correct keys without looking at the keyboard. * Provided speakers are quite adequate and sound better than most other laptops I have used. CONS: ----------- * Though gaming performance is quite good, using other graphics and video editing software left a little to be desired compared to the competition. But this is a GAMING laptop, so keep that in mind. * No webcam. Huge miss by ASUS in my opinion. Having a webcam kind of speaks for itself and would be a great add. * At 340 nits, the brightness could be a bit brighter for daytime playing. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------------------------------- * Styling is nice with an interchangeable color corner (red, clear-dark, and silver) piece. The underglow RGB lighting is QUITE cool, especially when playing in a dark area. * Aluminum top with a little flex, plastic bottom. 5.5 lbs is a little on the heavy side. * Ginormous power brick if you need space in your backpack. * Upgradeable to 32GB RAM, however be careful when taking off the bottom as small & delicate ribbon cables can be damaged. * There are no ports on the right side which will make right-handers happy (for mouse play, no cables getting in the way) - see attached photos for port placements. * When opening the box, ASUS uses their usual laptop pop-up mechanism which raises the laptop out of the box as it opens. CONCLUSION: =================== One of the better gaming laptops for the money out there, especially given the battery life and performance. ASUS upped their game with this Strix G15 Advantage. If you're looking for an upgrade, I would definitely recommend this one, an all-AMD platform that doesn't disappoint and doesn't break the bank. Not having a webcam is the biggest knock, but not enough to take it down a star-rating.

If your lucky it's great.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I managed to get one with good thermals. It important to understand that the different power modes change the thermal requirements. I notice when going turbo my ryzen cpu would hit over 93C but it was also pulling over 65+ watts. That's way more then the average mobile processor. My laptop came with ram which had timings better then default but not as good if you purchased additional ram. I've purchased additional ram and will update the review if it doesn't make a huge difference otherwise assume it did based off all the youtube videos saying it will. Asus has an article ( https://rog.asus.com/articles/g-series-gaming-laptops/ram-chips-are-changing-2021-rog-laptops/ ) on this and i'm not faulting them or docking a star from the lptop rating for it. I purchased the following 32gb kit from crucial CT2K16G4SFRA32A. My system did not have a DOA dedicated video card so that's great. When I went to add the second m2 ssd the screw was in way to tight and ended up getting stripped. I had to use the rubberband and pliers trick to remove it. I did encounter the reboot issue which occurs when you play a game and stop the system will randomly reboot at some point. It's likely due a configuration issue as after a clean reformat of windows 10 I haven't had it happen again. When I went to do a feature update, it would not install the update unless I did a complete system wipe. I ended up just reformatting the laptop with a full fresh version of Windows 10. Haven't had the reboot issue since and I am running Windows 10 21H1. I am taking 1 star off for the bad default image of windows which was included and the m2 screw being in way to tight. If you get a good one it's an amazing laptop.

Worth a shot if you use external monitors
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a solid laptop, Before buying. Note that while it power is a good rival for very expensive laptops, it’s monitor is not plugged into the 6800m but rather it’s integrated graphics. To unlock its full performance you must use the usb c cable on the rear of the laptop to bypass the integrated graphics as it plugs directly into the 6800m I averaged about 120-130 playing apex low settings on the laptops own screen, and about 200 on my external monitor

Surprisingly fast, solidly built, nice looking
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a recommended RAM upgrade (secondary timings on most of the earlier G15 Advantage's RAM were total rubbish, costing as much as 20% performance loss in some cases) this thing flies regardless of activity. The CPU absolutely disintegrates my C4D previews and renders, the GPU desecrates AE/PP OpenCL tasks, and combined they straight up murder games. When gaming I run mine to an external 1080p screen via a USB-C/DisplayPort to HDMI cable. Doing so bypasses the internal routing through integrated graphics and connects directly to the dGPU's video out netting a further ~10% performance gain and potentially some latency. It's going to get loud when gaming (especially on Turbo) and run pretty hot (especially on CPU/GPU intensive apps like some games), but it's designed to do just that--the CPU wants to ride that 95°C line, it's a maniac! Even under lengthy sustained all-core CPU loads the core clocks never dipped below ~4.2GHz. It’s undeniably a beast. Also, the battery life is pretty flippin’ amazing, just don’t expect miracles while gaming.

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop for the price $1,500. This is my 3rd one though. The first laptop had random restarting, and the second laptop had the same issue but with bad backlight bleed and loose track pad. I’m pretty sure this laptop has the faster memory got 125 frames on shadow of the tomb raider on the highest setting without external display. A lot faster than my desktop, 7700k + 1070.

||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little laptop for gaming. No issues getting it set up for Oculus wired gaming using Quest 2 either. Battery life could be better, but if you are gaming you will be plugged in anyways. My only gripe is the lack of a webcam. Make sure to swap out for faster ram and you will be crushing just about any other mobile gaming platform for the same power/heat generation.

It is super fast! It was recently on sale for 1549. How crazy is that? Barely out a month and BOOM! Yes it doesn’t have a mux switch!? But with all of the AMD goodness in it, we’ll trade offs. Cons only 1080 screen, but 300 MHz screen, no mux switch, issues with the RAM. (I was going to upgrade to 32 gigs anyway and switch the RAM and you get a 20 percent boost in FPS in gaming).

Now that dlss has gotten a better due to a recent update Im getting 120-130 fps on warzone at 1440p with better texture resolution. when connecting to an external display. Its light and pretty fast laptop for the price. I recommend running dlss performance (4K) mode. It just makes the game perform and look better.

I settled with this bc even then on some games it was keeping up. This laptop is a BEAST. It has interchangeable corner pieces you can download files and print if you have a 3D printer from Asus’s website. This laptop is sick and customizable just feels premium. Happy with the buy after returning 2 different models to try and find the right one. This one was it and I’m happy. Iwas able to get over 300 fps on valorant after messing with the settings I hope they don’t nerf it during an update.
