Great Performance for the Price

Overall this laptop is a great gaming laptop for value. The 5900HX paired with the AMD 6800M gets you great performance in pretty much all major titles you can throw at it. The 6800M will give you performance that's a almost on par with an RTX 3080 provided ray tracing isn't on. For those who have to play games with ray tracing then Nvidia cards are still the way to go.
The Screen is FHD in this model with a 300hz refresh rate so can't complain at all. I personally would have preferred a QHD screen that was brighter but this screen is pretty good at this price point considering the power of the CPU and GPU.
The AMD combo of CPU and GPU allows for smart share so the CPU and GPU can allocate power to where its needed most without drop in performance.
Keyboard is nothing to write home about but gets the job done as us the case with most gaming laptops. The Zephryus series definitely have better keyboards and chassis but less powerful CPU and GPU, this is a dedicated gaming machine through and through and if bought for that purpose you will not be disappointed.

Great Value for the money. Would be nice if it had a mux switch to get the full performance on the stock screen, but you can get the full performance on a larger second screen. Excellent for general use battery life is great, charging is fast. My last computer was an msi gt80 titan with a mechanical keyboard, I figured this one would be disappointing after that but I think I actually prefer this keyboard. Track pad works very nicely as well, much better than most i'd tried in the past. I'd have preferred the higher resolution lower refresh screen, or a 16:10 ratio but for the price the performance cant be beat without paying an extra $800-1000 (at the end of 2021)

I won't go into great detail on every little facet of the laptop, as Youtubers like Jarrod's Tech and Linus Tech Tips have good video reviews on this machine already, so you should watch them first. I'll use this review to cover issues that they did not address.
THE GOOD
I'll start out with the good stuff. As many reviewers are saying, this is THE BEST hardware you can buy in a laptop at this price point, by quite a margin. The RX 6800M trades blows with much more expensive laptops equipped with 3070s and 3080s, and the Ryzen 9 5900HX is just about the best you can get in a laptop, beating out most desktop CPUs.
I ordered 2 of these units, and the one I ordered more recently also seems to have better RAM than the original batch, with a Trfc timing of 560 rather than the 800 that the original shipped with. Either way, the RAM is cheap and easy to upgrade, so I won't dwell any more on that issue. Also, the new GPU drivers released by AMD at the end of June improved performance for me by a large margin (something like 10-20%), to the point where I'm not even bothered about the lack of MUX switch anymore. When the laptop is working well, the performance is absolutely fantastic, both on it's own screen and an external monitor.
THE BAD
I have tested two of these laptops so far, and both have had extreme thermal throttling issues related to the GPU hotspot temperature. When using ASUS's built in Performance and Turbo profiles, after playing for 10-15 minutes or so, most games would put the GPU in a throttling cycle where it would run fine for 10 seconds or so, then dip to single-digit FPS for 3-4 seconds before running fine again. This would repeat over and over until I let the system cool. I checked what was happening with HWInfo64 and the CPU and GPU were throttling down very suddenly below 10% power when the GPU hotspot temperature hit about 100 degrees or more.
Needless to say, this makes enjoying most graphically intensive games nearly impossible. The only workaround I've found at this point is to use ASUS's software to limit the total system power to 150 watts and crank the fans so it never hits that throttle point. But this is not an ideal solution, since it robs the system of power whenever it's not running hot. Both of the laptops I purchased have this issue, so at the very least, it is not an isolated incident. I am also in a cool room and the laptop sits on a cooling pad or right on my desk with the cooling vents unobstructed, so the ambient environment is not the problem here. I am trying one more unit to see if it also has the issue, and I'll report back on that.
Besides the throttling issues, I have also had several GPU driver crashes, mostly in a few specific games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Flight Simulator. The laptop has also occasionally randomly restarted itself after exiting a long gaming session. This has happened to me 5 or 6 times.
CONCLUSION
This laptop would EASILY be a 5-star rating were it not for the throttling and crashing issues. The performance potential and general build quality is just so good that I am willing to overlook a lot of little faults at this price point. But the overheating and driver issues are something to keep in mind if you are considering one of these. If you want a gaming laptop that just works perfectly right out of the box without tweaking, this probably isn't the best choice. But if you want the absolute best performing laptop under $2000 and are willing to deal with some early adopter teething issues, this is well worth considering. Unfortunately, I just can't give a blanket recommendation until ASUS irons out the numerous QC issues.

Dear Brok001,
Absolute, the laptop is the best hardware for the price.
We do understand your concern about thermal issues. It is normal for the laptop to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no system resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down.

I got this because I wanted to see what an AMD based gaming laptop compares to a Intel with the RTX series GPU.
I have to say that so far this unit plays some of the most demanding games fluidly. I compares quite well to my GE66 with the RTX 2070 Super.
This is a gaming laptop pure and simple, it has an extra m.2 bay for extra storage, I put a 2 TB in mine.
The 16 GB RAM is ample for gameplay and videos, you can slam another 16 in there but I don't know how much it will boost the performance.
there are only 2 downsides I could find
1: no SD card slot. this is not really a problem since you can get an adapter cheap.
2: no webcam which may be an issue for some interactive online games.
all in all a great challenger to Nvidia.

So far, this is a great laptop! They keyboard is actually very comfortable, and even the touchpad is good. The screen is super responsive too.
It does get very hot though, that seems to be the biggest issue, after 1 day of use. I'll update at a later date, but so far, super happy!

I got a flawless unit, no back bleed whatsoever, and great in-game temps. Speakers are loud and very clear, bass is somewhat lacking but overall great for laptop speakers.
Going to play on this things extensively for the next few days to ensure the quality of the unit I recieved, but if things continue as they are, this laptop is amazing! The "Link to MyAsus" is way better then a built-in webcam, the laptops super quiet unless gaming in Turbo mode, even that isn't very audible. Setting the fans to manual and max does get pretty loud, but isn't necessary as the normal temps are well below the required temp to avoid thermal throttling.
I am going to get a laptop cooling pad for this thing, along with some better RAM, and a new M2 drive, and this will be a workhorse for years to come.

If you choose to only read this one line, then BUY THIS LAPTOP IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY.
I bought this laptop after seeing how superior AMD has become in laptop hardware. Coming from a 960m laptop, this one was quite the upgrade. The laptop is extremely light considering the specs that it has, and because of the vapor chamber + liquid metal on both CPU/GPU, the CPU will consistently stay high 70s/low 80s while the GPU will not crack 70. The fans on this laptop are also pretty quiet considering how much this performance this thing puts out, and the preset "Silent" mode in the armory crate software makes this laptop sound nonexistent.
Everything done on this laptop is incredibly fast with no hiccups. All of the games I play can get 100+ fps at 1440p max settings when connected to an external monitor using the USB-C port. This laptop will be great to take to college in the fall which is why I did not buy a desktop.
This laptop is definitely a 5/5 however there are things that make me lower it by a star.
The 16GB of ram that is included hinders this laptop a bit when playing games. It has a high latency compared to the average ram that is used in laptops which ASUS said was due to supply issues. That being said, I switched out the stock ram with 32GB CRUCIAL memory (3200 CL22 Dual Rank) and I noticed a 15-20% increase in performance for games. I also added another 2tb nvme drive because 512GB is definitely not enough. This laptop is also extremely difficult to open because there are a lot of clasps on the bottom panel. Because this laptop is extremely new the screws seemed to have some kind of blue seal on them which made it extremely hard to unscrew and I almost warped a couple of them. The screw on the empty m.2 drive also had this and I ended up warping it and had to use needle nose pliers to get it unscrewed, but it was well worth the upgrade and trouble of doing that.
The average person might not change the ram, but instead add in the extra storage so it is definitely worth mentioning how difficult it is to remove the m.2 screw and to use the precisely right screwdriver for it, or needle nose pliers in my case.
If you managed to read this far, then know that changing the ram and upgrading the storage for a few hundred extra bucks on your own definitely makes this laptop a much better value than the $2,500+ laptops that come with an rtx 3080.

Tldr: This is the best gaming laptop i have had the pleasure of playing around with. Both gaming and basic use, this laptop is easily a 9.5/10 from me. If you're still looking for one, this is the one you want. Worth every penny.
The 6800m is on par with the RTX 3070 in most games. And with a 1080p display, with a refresh rate of 300hz, its perfect.
Honesty the best part of this laptop, it can be used like an ultrabook. I was able to keep a youtube video playing, discord, web browsing, downloads, transferring files, etc. Got 8 hours on a full charge, brightness at like 70%. It did way better than the zephyrus G14, which claims to get 10 hours (i could get 5 hours max)
Definitely needs an SSD upgrade, this also has slightly slower ram, youll get higher frame rates if you upgrade that. Not a big deal if you dont though.
The rgb controls are easy once you figure out how to use armoury crate, its also a good way to monitor temperatures.
Speaking of temperatures, this beast of a laptop stays cool. Cpu temps stay between 75 and 85 Celsius while gaming, and stays under 65 Celsius while just browsing the web or watching videos.
The keyboard is decent, took me a minute to get used to it.
Get a microfiber cloth, this thing gets fingerprints very easily.
Speakers are meh, 6/10. Use headphones please. They're not bad, but not good.
There is a small chance you get a unit with a gpu or cpu drowning in liquid metal, but bestbuy has a 14 day return policy. Youll know right away if you have a defective unit, and you can get it exchanged for a new one. You also get a 1 year limited warranty with Asus. I also recommend spending a little extra on geek squad protection, just to have the peace of mind, as this is an investment.

Great machine, amazing performance for the price, and, although it’s flashy, it looks amazing. It’s portable. Really portable. It’s a good size and it’s not even heavy. The thin bezels and the monitor being held up by the two hinges just looks absolutely incredible. And battery life. Oh my god, the battery life. I’d get up to 8 hours while running the monitor on 300hz and all the rgb on. That’s incredible. Typing on the keyboard is very comfortable. The metal lid with the soft, rubber-like interior feels amazing. It looks amazing as well. The rgb underglow is beautiful. Note that it is an underglow, not a front facing bar like the ge66/76. And, if you ever want to keep it muted, you can turn off the underglow in aura by setting the color to black, you can also turn off the key backlighting or set it as white, and replace the red cap on the back with the included black one and it looks like a professional laptop.
important to note:
-The RAM that comes with the laptop is x16 with slow secondary timings. Get x8 ram with faster secondary timings for BIG improvement that will compete with rtx 3080. This slow ram is included due to silicon shortage.
-Plugging into a monitor will deliver even better performance as it’ll connect directly through the gpu. I’m other words, this does not have a mux switch.
-I believe not all games will work with ray tracing, at least not yet. I don’t know if this will change or if there were some drivers I wasn’t aware of. I don’t even know how to find a list of those that do support it. Control for example doesn’t have the option of rtx with this machine (although I find it rather pointless, playing on my desktop with a 3090, it’s not exactly stunning). Deliver us the moon was also something I tested and it would crash whenever running directx 12 with rtx and sometimes even on directx 12 without rtx.
Overall, this is the perfect laptop for affordability and stunning performance while maintaining good portability, amazing battery life, and great aesthetic.

Love this laptop. I'm getting close to 11k in timespy 90+fps for far cry and 130+ fron witcher 3. So the performance was there for me right out of the box which I'm happy about. However, I had a small concern when it came to thermals as the cpu temp often peeked over 90+ range in both performance and turbo mode which I wasnt too comfrtable with despite AMD's claim that 90 is within the safe range. So I did have to tweak things around a little bit including disabling the processor boost and lifting the laptop using a cooling pad. This helped with the temp a lot although I did notice a slight trade off in performance. So I'm going to continue to play around with the settings a little bit until I find the optimal settings for my taste. In any case, beast of a laptop especially at the price point.

Got this laptop for about a week now. The build quality feel solid, the top is aluminum but the rest of the laptop is high quality plastic which I don't mind. The design of the laptop is good, I like RGB! The solfware experience when you first got it is horible! You must update ton of software and bios to get it stable. Make sure you update the bios first from asus website then the drivers( asus and amd drivers) and lastly the window updates. Once you finish all the updates the laptop should run like a beast! Very fast and quiet!

This is an incredible laptop from a performance/dollar perspective, and battery life is incredible, but there are a few important caveats:
* The mediatek wifi card has issues with some networks (mine included)
* The screen is just OK in my opinion: it's fine but higher color accuracy would have been better, and getting 300 fps have really going to happen for most games
* At 1080p the 6800M can compete with a 3080. At 1440p it loses steam and instead competes with a 3070. So the 6800M is basically between the two cards in terms off performance
* You will need to replace the RAM for best performance
* no webcam!
I ultimately returned mine, mainly due to wanting a better quality screen, though needing to replace the wifi card (or my network) AND the RAM also played a factor.

The computer is great especially when upgrading the ram and adding an additional ssd . The software is often and often has to be tweaked every time you update it or else the computer won’t recognize the gpu and will only use the integrated graphics which renders it useless. Takes about an hour each time I update to make it useful again

Extremely fast, value priced laptop. Plays everything I want at max settings. I'm a road warrior and take it with me everywhere I go. Would prefer a mux switch to be able to use the video card at it's full potential but that's not a huge deal - I get 100+ FPS on everything I play with ultra settings. Processor is stupid fast. I show people how quick it starts up from a cold boot and people are always impressed. Competes with most 3070 applications and even a 3080 on some games. Hard to justify paying $1000 extra to get similar performance. Glad to see AMD is posting some wins with this laptop.

Plays every present game no problem and quality and performance is as good as the high end gaming laptop but for half the cost. I got this computer two weeks ago and returned it today...but I give it 4 stars ?? Yes. Because this laptop is not at fault, I am.
I believe this is the BEST quality/price on the market. I got this laptop for 1600 tax included and it put most of its competitors up to 2000$ to shame performance wise. In benchmarks I got :
TimeSpy 10920
PugetBench AE 609
PugetBench Premiere 538
The dealbreaker for me is the AMD GPU. If you are a gamer purely, go for it as AMD is giving support and focus on gaming. I'm a creator and freelance in video and 3D... 3D where 90% of the applications require CUDA (Nvidia) to even boot. So performance really underwhelming and no optimization, same for all Adobe products (performance still good because of the amazing 5900HX, I don't believe it is a dealbreaker for Premiere/After Effects only or Photoshop. But if you need to run C4D coupled with Octane, Redshift, Blender, any 3D app get an Nvidia GPU to avoid headhaches. The 300Hz screen is really good but same, for a content creator I would have preferred a higher res instead.
So a really good laptop (best on the market in my opinion) for gamers and light user of the Adobe suite. For anyone working or heavily invested in 3D and creation I would get an RTX computer.
ALSO I have heard and experienced a lot of random reboots, which seems to happen on a lot of Asus computers... I did not get anything awful but I got a 6th "edition" laptop which should have been fixed

First off, the packaging on this G15A is awesome. Not much in the box, but make sure you don't miss the little corner replacement thingies if you don't like the red color. The brushed aluminum one looks much more professional IMO and they are hidden in the compartment in the middle under the G15A.
I have been using mine for work, school, and gaming for over a week now and it has been perfect. The whole thing feels really solid. There is hardly any flex in the deck for a plastic laptop. The keyboard is top shelf and has exceeded my expectations for a gaming laptop at this price point. I mean you can really type on this keyboard and quickly at well. The touchpad is excellent as well. I did go through the manual online and there are some secret multi-finger gestures that are worth looking up because you will probably not ever figure those out by accident. I have banged out two reports for school already on this one and I like this thing much better than my last laptop which was MacBook.
The screen is great looking and the speakers are actually good enough to sit down and watch movies or YouTube on easily.
To get to gaming, which is the reason anyone is going to be buying one of these. Holy cow! The system just hauls so much butt it is awe inspiring. Every game I have played on it is buttery smooth. This is my first super high hertz display and that coupled with the AMD Radeon 6800M will likely having me buying another, but hopefully not too soon. All the AMD FSR games coming out is only going to make things better over the next couple of years too. FSR is like getting free performance in games. Look it up if you don't know about it as it is way too much to be getting into here.

1st Let me say I really wanted to keep this laptop.
For what best buy is selling this for, this keeps up with or even beats NVIDIA RTX 3080 Laptops. The only downside for me when I 1st bought this was no MUX switch. I think that all gaming laptops need this and is a huge mistake by Asus leaving this out on a ROG Strix.
However after 3 days of using the Left fan is going out. Sounds like something is stuck in the fan blades. I opened it up to find nothing there which means the fan bearing is going out on the GPU Fan on a 3 day old laptop.
Asus has always been one of the top brands for quality and have used their motherboards, GPU's and laptops for years but after having a desktop GPU go out year ago and now laptop fan going out on DAY 3 I think this will be my last asus product I purchase until they get their quality control down.
I really want to give this laptop another try but now Im afraid that similar issue or something else will go out if I get a new one and im out side of return policy.
Reviewers have had great things to say about this laptop but after seeing all these people's reviews from actual buyers on best buy, I dont think I will try another one!
Pros:
-Up-gradable Ram to 32gb
-Extra M.2 2280 Slot
-Crazy High battery Life
-6800m Beats RTX 3080 MAX P in some Games
-Faster Than RTX3070 MAX P in all Games
Cons:
-NO MUX SWITCH to DISABLE Integrated GPU
-NO WEBCAM
-Quality Control is gone with Asus
